Ball State basketball player arrested for domestic battery

MUNCIE, Ind. (WTHR) – A Ball State University basketball player was arrested for domestic battery over the weekend.

An Uber driver called police Saturday after reportedly seeing Jontrell Walker push a woman to the ground, then hit her head against the concrete multiple times.

According to the police report, the woman, identified as Walker’s girlfriend, suffered cuts on her head and hand.

When police talked with Walker, he reportedly told them he was a member of the basketball team at the university and had been smoking marijuana.

Walker was taken to the Delaware County Jail, preliminarily charged with misdemeanor domestic battery and interference with reporting of a crime. He was released on bond Monday.

The university issued the following statement about Walker’s arrest Monday night:

Ball State University can confirm men’s basketball player Jontrell Walker has been arrested by Muncie Police on preliminary charges of domestic battery and interfering with the reporting of a crime. Walker has been suspended indefinitely from all basketball team activities, including competitions and practices.

Walker is in his first season playing with the Cardinals basketball team, after redshirting last season following a transfer from Incarnate Word. The 6’2″ guard from Aurora, Illinois is averaging 7.9 points and 2.1 assists per game, including a 23-point game at Oklahoma on November 15.
