MUNCIE, Ind. — Ball State men‘s basketball player Jontrell Walker missed Saturday‘s game against Buffalo after an early-morning domestic battery arrest.
Authorities said Walker was booked into Delaware County jail at about 12:45 a.m. Saturday and preliminarily charged with domestic battery and interference with reporting a crime.
Details of the arrest were not available early Sunday. He was released Saturday afternoon after posting a $5,000 bond.
Walker, a redshirt junior playing his first season with Ball State after transferring from Incarnate Word, had started the previous nine games and is averaging 7.9 points. Before Saturday‘s game against Buffalo, the team announced he was suspended indefinitely, and Walker was not present on the bench.
After the game, Ball State coach James Whitford said, “I don‘t have enough information on Jontrell. He is suspended indefinitely, and that‘s all I‘ll say.”
, “The distraction, that‘s the biggest thing. That‘s part of it, the dynamic of a team sport. There‘s no question.”
Walker, a 6-foot-1 guard from Aurora, Ill., is the second Ball State player to get an in-season suspension this season. Jeremie Tyler sat for three games and eventually worked his way back into the playing rotation.
