Two men have been charged with assault causing harm to a Laois footballer in Carlow on Sunday night.
Brendan Keating, 24, of St Mary’s Park, Carlow, and Tommy Lee Thompson, 20, of Springfield Park, Carlow, were charged at Carlow district court yesterday morning.
Daniel O’Reilly, from Graiguecullen, sustained serious head injuries in an altercation at the Potato Market shortly after 1am. He came on as a substitute in his county’s Division 4 league victory against Carlow at Croke Park on Saturday afternoon.
He was brought to St Luke’s Hospital after the incident and has remained there in a serious condition. John Moran, a local councillor, told the Leinster Express yesterday that Mr O’Reilly woke up briefly on Wednesday.
