Ex-Cal football player Trevor Davis arrested at LAX
LOS ANGELES — Green Bay Packers wide receiver Trevor Davis, a former Cal player, was arrested after falsely claiming to have explosives while checking in for a flight at Los Angeles International Airport, police said.
Airport police spokesman Rob Pedregon said Monday that Davis was booked on a charge of making a false bomb threat at an airport and released with a summons to appear in court.
He said Davis was checking in for a Hawaiian Airlines flight when an airline employee asked him whether he had any explosives in his bag.
Pedregon said Davis said “yes” and asked a woman he was traveling with, “Did you pack the explosives?”
Airline employees called police and Davis was arrested. The woman wasn’t charged.
The Packers said they were aware of the matter and was still gathering additional information.
Davis, 24, was a fifth-round draft pick in 2016 and served as Green Bay’s primary kickoff and punt returner last season.
Born in San Francisco, he competed in football and track at Alhambra High School in Martinez and played two years at Cal after transferring from Hawaii. He totaled 64 catches for 1,110 yards and seven touchdowns.
He had a 76-yard touchdown catch at Northwestern in the first game of his Cal career in 2014. Later that season, against Washington State, he became the third player in Pac-12 history to score on consecutive kickoff returns (100 and 98 yards) in one game. He also caught two TD passes, including a game-winning 51-yard play in the fourth quarter.
He ranked third in the NFL in punt return average (12.0) last season. He posted a 55-yard punt return against Atlanta, the longest by a Packer in four years. He topped that with a 65-yard punt return that set up the game-tying score to force overtime against the Browns, and the Packers won 27-21.
