Steelers safety Kameron Kelly was arrested early Friday morning in Pittsburgh and charged with two counts of making terroristic threats and one count of resisting arrest. All three charges are misdemeanors.
According to court documents, police were called to Mario’s South Side Saloon after Kelly was “disorderly” and threatened an employee at the establishment after his song request for the jukebox was skipped.
Asked to leave, Kelly became confrontational and then pushed his chest against an officer after the cop accidentally stepped on the foot of a woman the 23-year-old defensive back referred to as “his girl.”
Per reports, Kelly told the officer, “I promise to God I’ll f*ck you up boy.” He also allegedly said he would “knock out” one of the male staffers at the bar.
TMZ reports Kelly was punched in the face several times by officers who said it was the only way they could “subdue” him during the arrest.
Kelly was treated at a local hospital for a cut lip and taken to Allegheny County Jail shortly after.
ESPN explains why Kelly is facing terroristic threat charges instead of another criminal count: “In Pennsylvania, the crime of terroristic threat is committed if a person communicates, either directly or indirectly, a threat to commit a crime of violence with intent to terrorize another, cause evacuation of a building, place of assembly or facility of public transportation or otherwise cause serious public inconvenience, or cause terror or serious public inconvenience with reckless disregard of the risk of causing such terror or inconvenience.”
A standout in the now-defunct Alliance of American Football who was good enough to make the transition to the NFL, Kelly has compiled 17 tackles and an interception over 131 defensive snaps this season.
