Second man charged over attack on GAA player in Newry

A second man has been charged in connection with an assault on Down GAA player Caolan Mooney.

The 35-year-old has been charged with affray, grievous bodily harm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm and will appear at Newry Magistrates’ Court on 22 January.

A 37-year-old man has already appeared in court charged with affray and attempted grievous bodily harm.

Mr Mooney and his brother were attacked in the Merchant’s Quay area of Newry in the early hours of Monday. He is in a stable condition in hospital while his brother suffered a broken nose.
