A Mid-Michigan College coach faces two assault charges after one of his players told police he tried to kiss her twice in the same evening.
Robert Allen Robinson, 43, of St. Louis, was charged with two misdemeanor counts of assault and battery Feb. 18. Assault and battery carries a 93-day jail sentence and/or a fine of $500. His trial is scheduled for May 12.
Robinson was suspended by MMC after officers with the Mt. Pleasant Police Department opened an investigation into just what happened on Jan. 29.
That night, Robinson texted one of his players and told her that he’d hit a deer on his way home and told her that if she helped him out she could harvest some of the venison.
He picked her up from her apartment on the southern end of Mt. Pleasant, but they were unsuccessful in finding the deer’s carcass.
When he drove her home, the woman said he tried to kiss her two or three times. Eventually, to get away, she told police she hit him in the chest.
He told police that he hugged her, but at first denied kissing her, according to the police report. Later, he told police he’d kissed her on the cheek.
Robinson is represented by Jeffrey Lynch of Mt. Pleasant. He is currently out of jail on personal recognizance.
