The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia is demanding pre-trial detention of tennis player Nikoloz Basilashvili.
The agency has charged Basilashvili for abusing his ex-wife.
The investigation established that the sportsman physically abused his ex-wife N.D. after having an argument with her on May 21.
He was arrested on May 22.
The pre-trial hearing of the case is currently being held in the Tbilisi City Court behind the closed door.
The investigation against Basilashvili is underway under Article 126, Part 2, Subparagraph B of the Criminal Code of Georgia, which envisages violence against a family member.
