Tanveer Bhullar will remain suspended indefinitely from the Missouri State men’s basketball team following a Dec. 22 police report listing him and a teammate as people of interest in an investigation into the theft of $1,500.
Bears head coach Paul Lusk said on Sports Talk with Art Hains on Monday that Bhullar will remain suspended while Scott’s suspension has been lifted.
“I’m very disappointed, obviously, as to what happened,” Lusk said.
The Springfield police report said a 22-year-old woman had a party at her apartment that Bhullar and Scott attended on Dec. 22. The money vanished during the night between 2:30 and 4 a.m.
Documents said the woman provided Bhullar and Scott’s names to police.
The report said officers attempted to contact Scott and Bhullar at their apartment but were unsuccessful. The woman told officers she wanted to pursue charges.
In a supplemental report, the woman said Bhullar confessed to her that he committed the theft and that he returned the money. The woman said she was not out any money and no longer wished to pursue charges against Bhullar.
Neither Bhullar nor Scott has been charged with a crime.
Lusk said Bhullar admitted responsibility for his actions and is suspended indefinitely.
“With Darian, it was a curfew issue and he was somewhere he shouldn’t have been,” Lusk said.
The two were suspended from the team the same day the police report was filed.
“I told both of those guys “how you respond moving forward will be very important,'” Lusk said. “It’s extremely disappointing”
Bhullar transferred to Missouri State from New Mexico State before the season.
In 11 games, the 7-foot-2 senior has averaged 8.9 minutes per game. He averaged 3.1 points and 2.5 rebounds per game.
“In particular with Tanveer, (I told him) ‘don’t let this define who you are,” Lusk said. “It’s disappointing. It’s an embarrassment.”
Lusk said Bhullar will remain suspended until he decides to bring him back.
Scott, a 6-foot-11 freshman from Las Vegas, will continue to travel with the team and is redshirting this season.
