WAUKESHA, Wis. – University of Wisconsin-Rock County officials said the university’s men’s basketball coach has been put on administrative leave after being charged with attacking an official after a game at the University of Wisconsin-Waukesha on Wednesday night.
Coach Jamal Mosley is facing charges of disorderly conduct and battery, school officials said.
UW-Rock County has released the following statement:
“Mr. Jamal Mosley, University of Wisconsin-Rock County men’s basketball coach, has been placed on administrative leave by UW Colleges following charges of disorderly conduct and battery arising from an incident after the January 3 men’s basketball game versus University of Wisconsin-Waukesha. An internal investigation by UW Colleges is underway.
Our campus communities are distressed by this unfortunate event and are fully cooperating with law enforcement in Waukesha. We must also focus on providing resources for our students and on completing the basketball season for the UW-Rock County Rattlers men’s team.”
The official who was involved in the incident said he cannot comment because of the ongoing investigation.
Jeffrey Giese, the commissioner for the Capitol Conference, said the official was supposed to officiate a high school game Friday night, but is unable to because of doctor’s orders. Giese said the attack sent the official to the emergency room for a cut near his eye.
Mosley was hired as the head coach of the men’s basketball team in October 2016. He most recently served as head coach of men’s and women’s basketball at Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton.
He has been a youth camp coordinator for the city of Sun Prairie and ran his own training camps through Breakthrough Basketball.
Mosley is a former Division I basketball player at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
