Smyrna-Cape basketball fight results in charges against 1 player, 2 others

A downstate high school athlete has been charged and two otherĀ  people are sought in connection with a game-ending fight at a Henlopen Conference boys basketball game in Milford.

According to Milford Police, an investigation into the fight Thursday night led to three arrest warrants being obtained. The fight involved players and spectators and curtailed the game between Cape Henlopen and Smyrna.

18-year-old Cape player Randy Rickards, of Milton, turned himself after he learned he was being sought. He is charged with disorderly conduct and third-degree assault. Rickards will appear in Kent County Court of Common Pleas at a later date.

Milford Police said two other people are also being sought and arrangements are being made to get them to turn themselves in. The high schools have been assisting with the investigation. Milford officers were assisted by members of Delaware State Police and Harrington Police in breaking up the fight .
