Southeastern basketball player identified as one three men arrested in university shooting

HAMMOND, LA (WVUE) -

The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Department has released the names of three individuals arrested in a shooting that occurred Friday morning on the campus of Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond. One of the three, 19-year-old Jabbar Singleton of New Orleans, has been identified as an athlete on the Southeastern Men’s Basketball team, according to a school athletics official. 

The other two individuals arrested were identified as 18-year-old Herbert J. Joseph of Napoleonville and 19-year-old Jacoby G. Senegal of Abbeyville.

The shooting left two student-athletes injured, according to school officials. 

According to police, Singleton was charged with illegal discharge of a firearm and carrying a firearm while on school property. He was given an $85,000 bond. Joseph was charged with carrying a firearm on school property and two counts of attempted second-degree murder. He was given a $175,000 bond. Senegal was charged with carrying a firearm on school property, two counts of attempted second-degree murder and possession of a stolen firearm. 

FOX 8 received a statement from Southeastern Louisiana University Athletic Director Jay Artigues, Monday night:  

“Jabbar Singleton has been suspended indefinitely from the men’s basketball team for disciplinary reasons.”
