Man charged over racial abuse of ex-Bangor City player

Police investigating allegations of racist abuse against an ex-Bangor City footballer have charged a man.

Pavel Vieira was on board a bus in Liverpool when a man told him he ‘shouldn’t even be here’. The 26-year-old, from Guinea-Bissau, filmed the incident on his mobile phone.

The unidentified man can then be heard telling Mr Viera: “Everyone is thinking it, they are all the same, why doesn’t everyone say something.”

But at this point, other passengers on the bus start to show their support, with one man shouting to Mr Vieira “I’m Scouse, I don’t hate you mate.”

Merseyside Police confirmed last night that a 51-year-old man had handed himself into a police station in Halewood, and today said they had charged Kevin Brophy, 51, from Halewood, with the same.
