Player charged after alleged assault – kenoraonline.com

Thunder Bay North Stars player, 20-year-old Avery Siau, has been charged with assault following an altercation with Dryden GM Ice Dogs Head Coach Kurt Walsten.

Siau allegedly punched Walsten following an emotional SIJHL playoff game on April 17. Siau was not dressed for the game. Police were called to the arena in Thunder Bay, which began the investigation. Walsten was bloodied, but not seriously injured.

Following the incident, both teams agreed to have a security team in place for the remainder of the playoff series, which the Ice Dogs won in six games. The SIJHL has already handed out a 25 game suspension to Siau. Siau had previously been suspended for incidents, including head contact and a slew foot. He had 63 points in 49 games with the North Stars.

The Thunder Bay Police Service say that he is scheduled for a court appearance on May 25.

The Dogs and North Stars play tonight at 7:30 p.m., taking place at the Dryden Memorial Arena in the Dudley-Hewitt Cup championship.
