HARTSVILLE, SC (WBTW) – Charges have been dropped after a Coker College soccer player was accused of raping a woman at a party over the weekend, according to the City of Hartsville.
Hartsville police officers were called to an apartment on East Carolina Avenue Sunday morning by a woman who said she was raped in a bathroom in Sullivan Hall dormitories at a party. The woman told police that she was at the party with a couple friends around 4:40 a.m. Sunday morning when she was approached by the suspect, a 19-year-old man. (Name of accused has been removed from story following charges being dropped)
The woman told officers that the man asked for some of her drink, so they walked to a sink next to the bathroom to get a cup so she could pour some of her beverage in a cup for him. After pouring the drink, the victim started walking back to the living room toward her friends, but the man reportedly grabbed her by the waist and pulled her into the bathroom.
According to the woman, the man pushed her down into the shower and raped her. The woman said the attack lasted for five to 10 minutes and the man repeatedly called the woman a “whore and a lot of other degrading names and that she deserved it,” the report states.
The woman told officers she didn’t know the man prior to the attack.
The woman was taken to the hospital where a sexual assault examination was completed. The man was arrested and charged with criminal sexual assault first degree and kidnapping. Charges were dropped four days later and the woman was arrested for filing a false police report.
