The trial for former Wayne Hills football standout Kevin Olsen on sexual assault charges will start in September, according to North Carolina court records.
Olsen, 23, and a 2013 graduate of Wayne Hills High School, was charged with second-degree forcible rape, cyberstalking and assault on a female in February 2017. He will appear in Mecklenburg County Superior Court in North Carolina on Sept. 17.
In September 2017, he pleaded not guilty.
The Mecklenburg County Prosecutor’s Office said Olsen threatened to strangle himself with a phone charger prior to the alleged assault. Olsen got into an argument with the woman and assaulted her three times, Assistant District Attorney Kristen Northrup said.
Olsen played quarterback for University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Towson University and the University of Miami after his years at Wayne Hills.
Olsen redshirted at Miami in 2013, but he left the following year after multiple suspensions.
He then transferred to Towson University in Maryland. According to the Baltimore Sun, Olsen was kicked off the team in 2015 for violating team rules.
Olsen is the younger brother of Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen. His father is well-known Wayne Hills football coach Chris Olsen.
He was a four-star recruit entering his senior season at Wayne Hills. He was ranked 10th nationally among pro-style quarterbacks by Rivals.com when he committed to Miami in May 2012.
