WEST VALLEY CITY — One of three men arrested for the killing of a Kearns football player has been charged in connection with a separate shooting and brawl.
According to charging documents, on Aug. 24 a man had some friends over at his West Valley home on Cherry View Drive. Luis Sebastian-Enciso, who was 18 at the time but has since turned 19, was one of those attending.
At some point, Sebastian-Enciso got into an argument with another person in the house and left, charging documents state.
A little while later, the man who was hosting the gathering heard knocking on his garage door. He opened the door to find Sebastian-Enciso “with 7-9 men with their faces covered by blue and black bandanas,” the charges state.
A fight ensued between the masked men and the people in the house, during which the man was hit in the head with a collapsible baton, according to the charges. As the fight spilled into the street, multiple gunshots were heard, according to the charges.
The man’s father came out of the house to see what was happening and was shot in the leg, the charges state.
Sebastian-Enciso was charged Friday in 3rd District Court with aggravated burglary, a first-degree felony, and aggravated assault, a second-degree felony.
Sebastian-Enciso was also charged Friday with theft by receiving stolen property, a second-degree felony, in a separate case. In that incident, police served a warrant at Sebastian-Enciso’s home on Oct. 24 and found a stolen handgun, charging documents state.
It was also on Oct. 24 that West Valley police announced the arrests of Sebastian-Enciso and two others in connection with the shooting death Neko Jardine.
On July 14, Jardine, 19, a Kearns High School football standout, was attending a party at 5625 W. 4360 South, with between 30 and 40 others, when two cars pulled up and called for the partygoers to come outside, according to police. Detectives believe the suspects had an ongoing dispute with someone who lived at the house, but that person wasn’t home.
Family members say Jardine tried to play peacekeeper and stop his cousins from getting into an altercation. But up to a dozen shots were fired and Jardine was killed.
Sebastian-Enciso was arrested for investigation of murder, two counts of attempted murder, and aggravated burglary. As of Friday, formal charges had not been filed. Arnol Francisco Perez-Zelaya, 21, and Jose Joel Nunez Perez, 18, were also arrested in that case for investigation of murder.
It was because of forensics and ballistics testing of shell casings collected from the Aug. 24 incident that detectives were able to link Sebastian-Enciso to the Jardine murder, according to police.
The group is also being investigated for at least two other incidents:
- On Aug. 25, Salt Lake police responded to a report of a shot or shots being fired and found shell casings but no injuries were reported.
- On Sept. 14, Sandy police responded to a call of shots fired near 8800 South and 500 East. A shell casing was recovered, but no injuries were reported and no arrests made.
