COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KWTX) Former Texas A&M football player Vernon Jackson, Jr., 20, has been charged with assault/family violence/strangulation after a woman reported she was choked and that her head was slammed against the floor during a dispute.
Jackson was arrested Wednesday and was later released after posting a $20,000 bond, according to online records.
KBTX in Bryan reports online police records show Jackson went to a woman’s home on March 4 to look for his wallet.
While he was there, he demanded the woman give him the passcode to her phone, the records show.
The police report says the woman refused and then Jackson repeatedly choked her and prevented her from breathing.
The report also says he slammed her head against the floor.
The woman reportedly had bruises on her arms and throat, KBTX reported.
Jackson told police the argument never got physical.
Jackson was recruited to play football at A&M in 2018.
Texas A&M Athletics confirmed Jackson is enrolled at A&M, but he hasn’t played football since an injury last year.
