Local radio personality and former basketball star “Hurricane” Mike Herren is charged with raping a woman at his studio.
Michael Herren, 49, of Fall River, faces charges of rape and indecent assault and battery.
A woman who was brought to the Fall River Police Station on Thursday night in a panic told police that Herren had invited her to his studio, where he, another man and she had some drinks, according to police. But the night took a turn when the other man left, and the woman was alone with Herren, police say.
“She said Mike told him to lock the door and she became extremely scared due to the fact that he was a big guy,” police wrote she told them.
The woman, whose name is being withheld by the Herald due to the fact that she’s a victim of an alleged sexual assault, told police that Herren then grabbed her by the throat and sexually assaulted her, first with his hands and then with a beer can.
The woman “said that at that time she tried getting out of the house but couldn’t get the door to open,” police wrote. She said Herren put out lines of cocaine and made suggestive comments, at which point she said she had to go to the bathroom — and then bolted out of the house, police wrote.
She told police she heard him yell that he was going to “get” her as she fled.
Investigators wrote that the woman’s story remained consistent under questioning, and she had bruising.
Cops then went to Herren’s studio, where they found and arrested him.
Herren — who, according to the police report, stands at 6-foot-5, 270 pounds — is a former local star basketball player. His younger brother Chris Herren was a former Boston College basketball star and onetime Celtics backup guard — a much-heralded player who famously struggled with substance abuse.
“Hurricane” Michael Herren has been a media personality around Fall River for years, having had radio shows and podcasts around the South Coast.
Herren and his attorney couldn’t immediately be reached for comment.
