A Florida man has been charged with simple assault in an early Saturday morning incident in which Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert was punched at an Aberdeen bar.

Kyle Douglas Hadala, 29, of Sarasota, Fla., is charged with the misdemeanor count and has been released on a personal recognizance bond, said Ernest Thompson, chief deputy state’s attorney for Brown County.

Hadala is set to appear in court July 10. He was in town for work, Thompson said.

Goedert, 25, is a Britton native. He was a star athlete at Britton-Hecla High School and South Dakota State University. He was drafted by the Eagles in the second round in 2018 and is entering his third year in the NFL.

Thompson confirmed that a video that has surfaced is of the incident involving Goedert. In it, a man races into the frame and punches Goedert, who falls to the ground.

Aberdeen police noted in a news release that they responded to the 1000 block of South Main Street at 1:07 a.m. in reference to an assault, but did not identify the victim. That is the block of The Zoo bar, which has been confirmed as the site of the incident.

According to a report from the Philadelphia Inquirer, a source with knowledge of the situation said Goedert “was with some friends and family, and two guys kept saying disrespectful things.” The source said Goedert walked over to “tell them to chill” and was punched.

It’s not clear in the video what happened leading up to the incident, however Goedert appeared to have his arm outstretched, distancing himself from another man before being punched by a different person.

Thompson said it’s not yet known what happened before the confrontation. The investigation is ongoing, he said.

Thompson said his decision to charge Hadala with a misdemeanor as opposed to aggravated assault, a felony, came down to whether Goedert suffered serious bodily injury or loss of life or health. In the case of a concussion, it can depend, Thompson explained. If a person is fragile and a concussion could cause a stroke or if a person were to fall and crack their head open, that could be considered serious bodily injury, Thompson said.

In this case, he said, it was clear to officers who interviewed Goedert that even though he had been knocked out, it did not constitute serious bodily injury.

Goedert was taken by ambulance to a hospital before being released. ESPN.com reported Goedert is back at home and is “fine.”

Thompson said that Hadala can travel with his release. But he signed a waiver of extradition, meaning that he won’t contest being sent back to South Dakota from another state, Thompson said.

He said his office has been busy fielding calls about the incident, including taking calls from ESPN, TMZ and other media outlets.

ABERDEEN, Md. (WBFF) — Former NBA player Ronald Glen “Big Baby” Davis was charged with possession of marijuana in early February after refusing to leave an Aberdeen hotel.

Police say officers were dispatched to the Hampton Inn in Aberdeen at around 6 p.m. on Feb. 7 for a guest who refused to leave a room. Hotel management told the officers that the second floor of the hotel smelled of marijuana and they were able to pinpoint the room responsible for the odor.

Hotel management said they knocked on the door to evict the guests but a guest inside the room cursed the employee and refused to open the door. Management then gave officers permission to enter the room to evict the guests.

Police say once officers entered the room, it was empty but they observed “items in plain view consistent with drug use.” Police say two men later approached the officers regarding the room, one later identified as Ronald Glen Davis, 32, and gave the officers permission to search.

Officers found 126 grams of marijuana, packing materials, a ledger that contained language consistent with the sale of controlled dangerous substances, and a briefcase containing $92,164 dollars.

Davis was arrested and charged with possession and intent to distribute. He was taken to the Harford County Detention Center for processing. The second male was not arrested.

Davis, nicknamed Big Baby, has since retired from the NBA. He previously played for the Boston Celtics, Orlando Magic, and Los Angeles Clippers.

An Aberdeen FC director has been fined by the Scottish FA for breaching football rules by placing bets on matches.

Duncan Skinner was charged by the governing body with placing 589 bets on almost 1500 matches over the course of four seasons, including one wager backing Celtic to beat Aberdeen in February of this year.

The governing body brought four charges against Skinner, one for each season in which he was believed to have placed bets. The claims against the non-executive director, who is also chairman of the Aberdeen FC Community Trust, were not linked to match-fixing.

Skinner was summoned to a disciplinary hearing in January but waived the normal preparation period to ask for an earlier date. An independent panel considered the case on Thursday and ruled that he was guilty of the first two charges and he was fined £1000 in total, to be paid within 30 days.

The remaining two charges have been deferred until March 29, 2018 to allow time to consider a report from Mr Skinner. In the interim, Aberdeen are to conduct a full internal review and remind office holders of their obligations under the Scottish FA’s rules.

The Scottish FA’s disciplinary rules state: “No club, official, team official or other member of team staff, player, match official or other person under the jurisdiction of the Scottish FA shall gamble in any way on a football match.”

Two men have been arrested in connection with the slaying of a 23-year-old in Aberdeen.

Shakeil Kerdim Cooper, 20, and Clayndale Omari Miller, 19, are accused of fatally shooting Lashun Dominique Brower on Dec. 11 at the victim’s home in the 100 block of Meredith Drive near Aberdeen Primary School.

The charges against Cooper, a Fayetteville resident who was arrested Friday, include murder, second-degree kidnapping, discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling and robbery with a dangerous weapon. Miller, who lives in Raeford and was arrested Wednesday, is charged with murder, second-degree kidnapping and robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Both suspects are bring held without bond at the Moore County Detention Center. They are due in Moore County Superior Court on Jan. 9.

Brower grew up in Eagle Springs and is a 2012 graduate of Union Pines High School, where he played on the men’s basketball team.

His development on the court continued at Wentworth Military Academy and College in Lexington, Missouri. A standout at Wentworth, Brower was recognized as a National Player of the Week in 2015 by the U.S. Collegiate Athletic Association — a distinction held at the time by only one other player in the academy’s history.

He was buried Dec. 16 in the cemetery of Holly Grove Deliverance Church in Eagle Springs.

Cooper was convicted earlier this year of simple assault in Cumberland County and was serving a 12-month probation sentence at the time of his arrest, according to information from the state Department of Corrections.

Carl Colasacco, deputy chief of investigations for the Aberdeen Police Department, said the victim did not appear to know Miller or Cooper.

“We believe they were looking for someone else,” he said.

According to Colasacco, there is a possibility more suspects may be arrrsted as the investigation continues.

Brower is the fourth person to be fatally shot this year in Moore County.

On Sept. 29, Shyheem Ucif Utley, 19, was killed in the parking lot of M&S Market in Southern Pines. Timothy Caldell Stanback, a 25-year-old from Virginia, was later charged with first degree murder in connection with the slaying.

Daryl Wayne Long, 63, suffered a fatal gunshot wound at a home in Carthage on June 24. The Moore County Sheriff’s Office charged Kevin Keith Vaughn, a 33-year-old Cameron resident, with murder.

Jeffery Dave Dowd, 55, was shot dead at a mobile home in West End on Jan. 19. Gregory Thomas Short, the 62-year-old suspect, is charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Short and Vaughn are being held at the Moore County Detention Center, while Stanback is jailed in Richmond County. All three suspects have hearings scheduled in Moore County Superior Court.
