Packers defensive tackle Montravius Adams was arrested in his home state of Georgia on Tuesday, per Tom Green of AL.com. Unlike the NFL players that have been booked over the past week or so, however, Adams is facing fairly minor charges.

According to the Associated Press, Adams was pulled over on suspicion of driving with a suspended registration and no insurance. Upon approaching the car, the officer smelled marijuana, and Adams was ultimately charged with three misdemeanors: possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, driving with a suspended registration, and driving without insurance.

The new collective bargaining agreement says players cannot be suspended for marijuana-related offenses, so Adams will presumably avoid league discipline and is unlikely to face any notable legal consequences. He was released on less than $3K bond.

However, the Auburn product is entering a contract year and may not see a second deal with Green Bay (or any other team, for that matter). A third-round pick in the 2017 draft, Adams has started just three of the 37 games in which he has appeared, and he has yet to play more than 20% of the Packers’ defensive snaps in a season. Advanced metrics have not been particularly fond of his play either. In 2019, Pro Football Focus gave him below-average marks for his work against both the pass and the run.

Adams has 33 tackles and 1.5 sacks in his career.

Former Auburn defensive lineman and current Green Bay Packer Montravius Adams was arrested in his homestate of Georgia this week, police records show.

Adams, who starred at Auburn from 2013-16, was arrested in Houston County and charged with three misdemeanors: possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, driving without insurance and suspended/canceled/revoked vehicle registration. Adams was arrested on Tuesday night by the Houston County Sheriff’s Office and released from the Houston County Detention Center less than three hours later on $2,964 bond.

Adams appeared in 52 games at Auburn, including 36 starts, and made 26 consecutive starts along the defensive line for the Tigers. As a senior in 2016, the 6-foot-4, 305-pounder was named a second-team All-American and first-team All-SEC selection after totaling 43 tackles, including eight for a loss and four sacks, while also adding two pass breakups, an interception, as well as a fumble return for a touchdown.

A native of Vienna, Ga., Adams was drafted by Green Bay in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. The Packers selected Adams with the 97th overall pick that year, and after appearing in just seven games as a rookie, he has played in 30 games over the last two seasons while making three starts. Over the course of his three-year NFL career so far, Adams has totaled 33 tackles, 1.5 sacks, three pass breakups, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and six quarterback hits.

On Tuesday, 2017 third-round pick of the Green Bay Packers, Montravius Adams was arrested in Georgia for possession of marijuana, driving without insurance and driving with a suspended, cancelled or revoked registration. 

The 24-year old was released on $2,964 bond a couple hours after his arrest by the Houston County Sheriff’s Office.

Fortunately for Adams, he may not face significant discipline by the NFL for his marijuana possession, as the league changed its substance abuse policy a couple of months ago as a part of the new collective bargaining agreement between the NFL and the NFLPA. 

The Packers issued a statement saying that they will not be making any comment on the incident. “The Packers are aware of the matter involving Montravius Adams,” the team said. “We will refrain from making any further comment as it is an ongoing legal matter.”

Thus far in his three seasons, Adams has appeared in 37 games, starting in three of them, and had 33 total tackles which includes 1.5 sacks.

Houston County Sheriff’s deputies reportedly pulled over the 24-year-old about 6 p.m. Tuesday in Elko, according to WMAZ.

Adams was stopped due to a suspended registration. When the arresting officer approached the car, he observed an aroma of marijuana, according to USA Today. A probable cause search was conducted, leading police to discover less than 1 ounce of marijuana.

Adams ultimately was charged with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana, driving without insurance and having a suspended/canceled/revoked vehicle registration.

“The Packers are aware of the matter involving Montravius Adams,” a team spokesperson said in a statement issued to PackersNews. “We will refrain from making any further comment as it is an ongoing legal matter.”

Adams is a native of Vienna, Georgia. After an impressive showing at Dooly County High School, the defensive standout spent three years as an integral part of the Auburn University defensive line.

He was drafted in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, according to previous Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. The Packers selected Adams with the 93rd overall pick that year.

According to jail records, Adams has bonded out of jail.
