Earlier this week, police arrested a Major League Baseball player after trespassing at a local Florida airport.

According to the Miami Herald, police arrested Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Andrew Toles on June 22. The report states Toles was sleeping behind the airport at a FedEx.

According to the arrest report from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, police charged Toles with a misdemeanor charge of trespassing. He allegedly refused to leave the area when asked by police.

After refusing several times, police placed Toles into custody.

Here’s more from the report:

Toles was sleeping behind the Federal Express building, located at Key West International Airport, 3491 S. Roosevelt Blvd. All he had with him was a black book bag, deputies said.

Police said they gave Toles several chances to leave the area without being arrested but he wouldn’t walk away, wrote Deputy Tomas Venegas.

The Florida Marlins selected Toles in the fourth round of the 2010 MLB Draft. However, he decided to further his baseball career at the University of Tennessee where he was dismissed from the program after his freshman season.

He eventually landed with the Tampa Bay Rays after the team selected him in the second round of the 2012 MLB Draft. The Rays released Toles before the 2015 season for disciplinary reasons.

After not playing in 2015, he landed with the Dodgers. He eventually left the team in training camp before the 2019 season.

Dodgers outfielder Andrew Toles, who hasn’t played since 2018, was arrested and jailed this week when police found him sleeping behind Key West Airport in South Florida.

Toles, 28, was charged with misdemeanor trespassing Monday night. Police listed his address as “streets of Key West.” The Miami Herald reported he ignored requests by the police to leave.

His arraignment is scheduled for July 2.

Toles didn’t report to spring training last year and has since been on the club’s restricted list.

It was the latest of several setbacks for Toles, who has dealt with anxiety during his baseball career.

Toles was dismissed from Tennessee’s team as a sophomore in 2011 and suspended while at Chipola College. He missed two months of the 2014 season because of personal issues.

The Dodgers signed Toles in September 2015 after the Tampa Bay Rays released him. He made his major league debut the following season and became a valuable contributor.

He appeared in 46 regular-season games in 2016, batting .314 with an .870 on-base-plus-slugging percentage before making the postseason roster. He batted .364 in 26 plate appearances in the playoffs.

Eighth Immortal Andrew Johns has hinted at a double standard between the punishments handed out to NRL superstars Latrell Mitchell and Josh Addo-Carr and the two Canterbury players who were last month sacked.

Mitchell and Addo-Carr are both due to appear in Taree Local Court on August 4 on separate firearms charges.

The alleged offences stem from the now infamous camping trip on Mitchell’s Taree property.

Mitchell is facing one charge of giving a firearm to a person not authorised by a licence or permit while Addo-Carr was charged with using an unauthorised firearm.

South Sydney star Mitchell’s charge carries a maximum five-year prison sentence.

Mitchell and Addo-Carr were also each fined $50,000 (60 percent suspended) and handed suspended one-match bans by the NRL for breaching NSW’s coronavirus social distancing laws.

Meanwhile, ex-Bulldogs pair Corey Harawira-Naera and Jayden Okunbor had their NRL registrations suspended indefinitely before they were sacked by the Bulldogs last month.

Okunbor and Harawira-Naera allegedly invited two schoolgirls to the team hotel during the club’s pre-season trip to Port Macquarie in February.

Both girls were above the age of consent at the time and neither player was charged by police.

Former NRL CEO Todd Greenberg declared the Bulldogs duo’s alleged behaviour was ‘inexcusable and a very serious breach of the code of conduct’ in announcing the decision to suspend their registration.

Both players reportedly plan to appeal the governing body’s decision, which was followed by Canterbury’s call to tear up their contracts.

And Johns this week suggested the Bulldogs players may have been hard done by when compared to the punishments meted out to Mitchell and Addo-Carr.

“Some people have asked me what’s the difference between what Latrell and Josh have done and what the Bulldogs players have done – what’s worse?” Johns told Wide World of Sports’ Freddy & The Eighth.

“And the Bulldogs players have had their contracts torn up. Where one’s a criminal matter and ones more a moral issue.”
