STILLWATER — A former Oklahoma State walk-on men’s basketball player is facing a felony charge after allegedly breaking into and vandalizing the on-campus apartment of a current player.

According to court documents obtained by The Oklahoman, Luke Major was charged Dec. 6 with second-degree burglary. He was released on $5,000 bond and is scheduled for arraignment Tuesday. If convicted, he faces two to seven years in prison and a fine up to $10,000.

On Oct. 21, Major allegedly entered, stole items and vandalized the apartment of freshman guard Marcus Watson, who remains suspended from team activities due to a protective order requested by a female OSU student for alleged rape. The Payne County District Attorney’s office has declined to file criminal charges against Watson.

Major, 20, intended to “confront” Watson after the alleged incident two days earlier, according to the police affidavit. Major is a close friend and ex-boyfriend of the female student who filed for the protective order against Watson.

Inside Watson’s apartment, the word “RAPIST” was written using red-colored glass chalk paint on Watson’s bedroom door and patio door. “MARCUS IS A RAPIST” was written in the same chalk on a glass-covered bulletin board near the apartment. “YOUR [sic] A RAPIST” was also written on the front of the apartment.

Items were also missing from Watson’s apartment and his TV screen was damaged.

According to the affidavit, police identified Major as a suspect after a device associated with him was active on the WiFi of the building in which Watson lived. Major was the only person identified on the WiFi network who did not live in that building.

When police interviewed Major, he was informed the university was attempting to recoup money for the costs of cleaning the vandalism. Police then asked Major if he was in the area that night. He said no, but later admitted he went with his brother, Joshua, and his brother’s friend to confront Watson because Major was “eaten” up about the situation.

(Stillwater, Okla.) — Former Oklahoma State University basketball player Luke Michael Major has been ordered to appear in court on Dec. 31 for arraignment on a felony charge accusing him of burglarizing the campus apartment of a student, who was named as a suspect in a sexual assault case, according to a police affidavit.

Major, 20, of Edmond, was arrested on Dec. 11 and released on $5,000 bond on a second-degree burglary charge, which carries a penalty of two to seven years in prison plus a fine of up to $10,000 on conviction, court records show.

OSU police were notified of a burglary/vandalism in Morsani Hall on the Stillwater campus on Oct. 21 that occurred between 9 pm and 11 pm, according to an affidavit by OSU Police Officer Leslie Grotheer.

“In addition to items missing from inside the bedroom of (the student), the screen of the TV in his room had been damaged. Inside the apartment, someone wrote the word, ‘RAPIST,’ on both (his) bedroom door and on the patio door of the apartment, using red-colored glass chalk paint.

“The words, ‘…IS A RAPIST,’ were written on a glass-covered bulletin board near the residence and the words ‘YOUR (sic) A RAPIST,’ were written on the front door of the apartment. Each was written using the same red-colored glass chalk paint,” the affidavit said.

The student “had previously been named as a suspect in a sexual assault case,” the affidavit said. The student has not been charged with any crime in connection with the alleged sexual assault, court records show.

Asked if he knew who might be responsible for breaking into his apartment, the student “told me he thought it could be one of the (alleged sexual assault) victim’s friends, and specifically, Luke Major,” the OSU officer wrote in his affidavit.

“Luke Major was a member of the 2018-2019 OSU men’s basketball team, but is not a current member. Luke is also close friends with and the ex-boyfriend of the victim,” of the alleged sexual assault, the affidavit said.

After learning that a device associated with Major was active on the Wi-Fi network on Oct. 21 at 9:18 p.m. in the area, the OSU police officer “told Luke his phone showed he was in the area at the time of the burglary/vandalism,” the affidavit said.

Major then admitted he went with his brother and his brother’s friend to the apartment to confront the resident about the alleged sexual assault because Major “was eaten up about the situation,” the affidavit alleged.

“I asked Luke if there was any reason we would find his fingerprints inside the residence. Luke told me yes and admitted he entered the residence. Once inside the residence, Luke knocked on (the student’s) bedroom door. No one was home at the time Luke entered the apartment,” the OSU police officer alleged in the affidavit.

“Luke asked me if the university was just wanting someone to pay for the damages. I explained there had been monetary loss due to the vandalism. Luke said he wasn’t the person who committed the vandalism, but asked ‘What if we just paid for it…what would happen?’ I asked Luke why he would pay for something he didn’t do. Luke said he knew it looked suspicious, since he had been in the area at the time the incident occurred,” the OSU police officer alleged in the affidavit.

“Because Luke admitted to making entry into (the student’s) unoccupied apartment without (the student’s) permission with the intent to ‘confront’ (him), and because items were taken from inside the apartment, I request Luke Major be charged with burglary in the second-degree,” the OSU police officer wrote in his affidavit for an arrest warrant for Major.

GREENVILLE, NC (WITN) – Documents from the Los Angeles County District Attorney said there was $20,000 in damages to an apartment building where Zay Jones was arrested earlier this week.

The former ECU football player and current Buffalo Bills player was taken into custody Monday night by L.A. police.

The D.A.’s office says “The case has been declined due to insufficient evidence.”

Jones was arrested Monday night in Los Angeles after officers were sent to 900 South Figueroa Street around 11:20 p.m. their time because a man was breaking glass doors and windows.

He was taken into custody and booked for felony vandalism.

A charge evaluation worksheet from the D.A.’s office says officers were told by Jones’ brother that the man “had become agitated”. Jones was covered in blood, according to police.

The worksheet says the owners of the apartment building didn’t want to press charges, and that Jones’ family had “assumed financial responsibility for the damages.” It says the apartment building would not provide officers with an invoice for the damages.

TMZ released a video of the what happened and it shows Jones struggling with his brother Cayleb, who was reportedly trying to prevent Jones from jumping out of a 30th floor window.

The D.A.’s office says the TMZ video was captured by another resident’s doorbell surveillance camera.

The worksheet ends by saying the case is dismissed “as there is insufficient evidence to prove ‘beyond a reasonable doubt’ that the suspect acted with malice and, without victim cooperation, the amount of loss cannot be determined.”
