Jets defensive end Quinnen Williams will have his day in court next month.

Williams, who was arrested on March 5 at LaGuardia Airport for trying to board a plane with an unlicensed Glock 19 handgun, will appear in court on July 23, according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini. His original court date, March 25, was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to reports citing Port Authority officials, Williams had the gun in his bag when he arrived at the Delta Airlines check-in counter. When the Delta employee responsible for Williams found out about the gun, a license check was made with the Port Authority police. Since Williams’ permit was valid in Alabama, but not New York, he was charged with criminal possession of a weapon.

The 22-year-old was scheduled to be formally charged during his first court appearance on March 25. Since he did not have ammunition on him when he was arrested, he cannot be charged with unlawfully possessing a loaded weapon — the same charge that sent former Giants and Jets wide receiver Plaxico Burress to prison for 20 months following an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound at a Manhattan nightclub in 2008.

The Jets selected Williams third overall out of Alabama in the 2019 NFL draft, making him the highest-drafted defensive player in franchise history. The defensive lineman’s rookie season wound up being somewhat of a disappointment, though, as he battled injuries and stretches of inconsistent play throughout 2019. In 13 games, Williams recorded only 28 tackles and 2.5 sacks.

Williams’ court date comes before the beginning of training camp, meaning he will not miss any practice because of the gun charge. Regardless of the outcome of his case, Williams is subject to punishment under the NFL’s personal conduct policy.

A sexual assault allegation involving Cody Latimer’s 4-year-old son sparked a heated argument over the weekend that left the Washington Redskins wide receiver facing multiple felony charges, his lawyer said during a Monday hearing.

Latimer, who was released on $25,000 bond, was charged with assault in the second degree, menacing and illegal discharge of a firearm in Colorado, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department. He also is facing misdemeanor charges of prohibited use of a weapon and reckless endangerment.

Roderick English, who told police he is Latimer’s best friend, held a poker game at his Colorado home Friday night, including the former Giants receiver and seven or eight others, ESPN reported.

Later in the night, Latimer and an unidentified card player became irate with one another, according to court documents. While the police report did not detail what was discussed, Latimer’s attorney, Harvey Steinberg, told the court during the virtual hearing that it concerned a person at the table allegedly sexually assaulting Latimer’s son.

Steinberg said the sexual assault allegations do not involve Latimer. Steinberg added that law enforcement contacted him to investigate the sexual assault allegation, in addition to the charges levied against the 27-year-old Latimer.

Latimer and the other individual had to be separated, said English, who then ordered everyone to leave his apartment.

It’s unclear whether the individual Latimer argued with was the same person who allegedly committed the sexual assault against Latimer’s son. It also is unknown when the alleged assault may have taken place.

Around 30 minutes after English ordered everyone to leave, an enraged Latimer returned to the apartment, English said, and blamed English for the poker-game episode. English said he and Latimer had been drinking the night of the incident.

English said Latimer then pulled out a handgun from his hoodie and waved it around, saying he was going to kill everybody, according to police records.

According to English, the situation de-escalated for a few moments before Latimer fired two shots near English, who then pinned Latimer against the wall. Latimer then hit English on the top of his head with the gun, and the fight eventually ended.

Police arrived around midnight, and English received medical attention for a contusion on the top of his head and a cut on his face.

Latimer spent the past two seasons with the Giants after beginning his career with Denver. He signed a one-year, $1.04 million contract ($137,500 guaranteed) with the Redskins this offseason.

Latimer’s case marks one of three ongoing criminal investigations involving NFL players. Also on Saturday, Buffalo Bills defensive end tackle Ed Oliver, 22, was arrested in Houston on charges of DWI and unlawful carrying of a weapon.

Last week, 22-year-old Giants cornerback DeAndre Baker was charged with four counts of armed robbery with a firearm and four counts of aggravated assault at a party in his home state of Florida. Seattle Seahawks cornerback Quintron Dunbar, 27, also faced multiple charges stemming from the same incident.

Latimer is scheduled to have his next court hearing July 24.

The arrest of an NFL player could have turned deadly when police held a gun to his face when taking him into custody, TMZ reports.

Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Bashaud Breeland was arrested Tuesday (April 28) at a gas station in Fort Mill, South Carolina, after a York County Sheriff’s Deputy claims he saw him and two other individuals in a car smoking marijuana.

Breeland, 28, recently signed a new one-year contract with the Chiefs, who won Super Bowl LIV in February.

The cop says that Breeland became irate when questioned and a confrontation between the two began, then escalated. In video footage from the arrest, the officer tries to put Breeland in handcuffs, but he refused. The officer eventually pulls out a taser and tells him to cease resisting.

“Put your hands behind your back or you will get tased,” the officer can be heard saying. “Turn around and face away from me! You’ll get tased!”

But Breeland gets away from the officer and moves back into the car. That’s when the cop pulls out his gun and places it inches from Breeland’s face. “Let me see your hands! … I’m not playing!”

Breeland gets out of the car, lays on the ground and allows the officer to place him in handcuffs. He was arrested and taken to jail, TMZ says.

Breeland was charged with resisting arrest, having open containers of liquor in a motor vehicle, marijuana possession and driving without a license, according to ESPN. He was released from jail Tuesday night on bond.

Breeland’s lawyers questioned the reason for police drawing a gun on him and reportedly “look forward to reviewing all available evidence in this matter.”

Breeland himself did not comment directly on the incident, only posting to Instagram a segment from his song “Bree Talk under his rap moniker, 26 Breezy.

[Editor’s Note: Explicit lyrics]

A Chiefs representative said the team was aware of what happened but had no comment, according to ESPN.

SuperSport United striker Thamsanqa Gabuza could face a salary deduction for not obeying lockdown rules after he was arrested for alleged speeding.

The former Orlando Pirates is understood to be the professional soccer player police arrested over the weekend for clocking 213km/h on the N1 highway near Sandton.

Gabuza will appear at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court in July to face charges of speeding and reckless driving.

SuperSport CEO Stan Matthews says the club is dealing with the matter internally.

“I can’t comment on this for now other than to say we are dealing with the matter internally and the player faces a disciplinary process post 1 June at Level 3 lockdown,” Matthews tells KickOff.com.

“We regard this alleged violation in a very serious light. All our players were guaranteed their salaries on two priority conditions; that they obey the lockdown restrictions, and that they post their daily fitness, football or social media uploads as requested.

“The player will be given an opportunity to present his case and the merits of the case will guide the process. Please understand our position. This is a serious matter and I cannot comment further to you or anyone else. Trust you understand.”

According to Sowetan and Isolezwe, Gabuza’s former teammate Ntsikelelo Nyauza as well as actor Sphamandla Dludlu and musician Queen Lolly were part of the travelling party.

“A case of reckless driving and speeding was opened by police against the football star and the rest were charged for contravening the lockdown rules,” Sowetan quotes provincial police spokesperson Capt Mavela Masondo as saying.

Scary police footage has emerged of former NFL star Darren McFadden crashing his car into a wall and being arrested.

In February, the former Dallas Cowboys and Oakland Raiders running back pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated from a 2019 incident at a Whataburger restaurant in Texas.

‘REST OF MY LIFE’: Former NFL star still haunted by infamous photo

Police said they arrived at the fast-food restaurant after employees found him passed out in his GMC Yukon in the drive-thru shortly after midnight on January 21, 2019.

Police say that McFadden resisted arrest during the incident that ended with windows broken out of his car.

TMZ obtained police body camera footage of the arrest on Monday that shows all of the above to be true. And more.

Wild video shows McFadden driving his car into the wall of the restaurant while passed out at the wheel before officers scramble to detain him and prevent further damage.

(This video contains NSFW language)

The video starts with an officer knocking on the driver’s side window as McFadden is clearly asleep at the wheel. The car is running, and an officer notes that it’s in drive.

When McFadden doesn’t respond to their knocks, officers begin shaking the SUV to try get his attention.

“Is he alive?” one officer asks.

The SUV then takes off and crashes into the side of the Whataburger. The wheels continue to spin as the nose of the car is wedged against the brick wall. Officers then begin to slam their flashlights into his windows to try to break into the car.

Another angle (at the 3-minute mark of the video) from an officer’s camera at the passenger window confirms that McFadden was indeed unconscious when he apparently hit the gas and slammed into the Whataburger.

An officer eventually got the driver’s side door open, when McFadden woke up, clearly confused. He resisted the officers’ attempt to detain him prompting one to pull his Taser out.

McFadden then followed officers’ orders to get on the ground, where he was handcuffed and detained.

McFadden sentenced to four days in jail

In February, McFadden was sentenced to four days in jail after pleading guilty to driving while intoxicated.

He was charged with with driving with a BAC of greater than or equal to .15. A resisting arrest charge that carried up to two years in prison was dismissed as part of the plea deal.

McFadden, 32, played 10 seasons in the NFL from 2008-17.

A first-round pick of the Raiders in 2008, McFadden played seven seasons in Oakland before joining the Cowboys in 2015.

He finished his career in Dallas and hasn’t played since the 2017 season.

RICHMOND — Days after police arrested a Bay Area man on suspicion of killing former NFL player Terrell Roberts, the Contra Costa District Attorney’s office determined there wasn’t enough evidence to file a case, prosecutors said.

The suspect, who this newspaper is not naming, was released from jail Tuesday morning, authorities said. He was arrested earlier this week on suspicion of fatally shooting Roberts during an altercation in Richmond last September.

The District Attorney’s office didn’t comment on the rationale behind the decision not to file charges, which was made by the homicide unit. Generally, prosecutors are supposed to only file charges when they’re confident the charges can be proved at trial.

There is no statute of limitations on murder charges, so that means prosecutors can reevaluate their decision at any point.

The shooting took place out front, by the garage, at Roberts’ grandmother’s house, which is on the 1200 block of Fascination Circle, police said at the time. Roberts, who played two seasons for the Cincinnati Bengals, died in the backyard with a gunshot wound in his chest.

Before going pro, Roberts played football at El Cerrito High School. He signed with the Bengals in 2003 after going undrafted out of Oregon State. He played 23 games over two seasons, starting once and intercepting a pass. The Bengals released him in 2005.

“He was an outstanding talent, and he wasn’t a selfish player,” former longtime El Cerrito coach Frank Milo, 78, said in an interview last September. “He always worked hard for what he achieved. I can recall when he was a sophomore, I brought him up to varsity about halfway through the season, and he started at cornerback that year. The next two years, he was just tremendous. He started both ways and never came off the field. He also returned punts and kickoffs on special teams.”

Roberts’ family told news station KPIX that her had a “heart of gold” and was “not mixed up in anything bad.”

LSU linebacker Donte Starks has been dismissed from the football program for a violation of team rules, coach Ed Orgeron announced on Friday in a release sent by the school. Starks was serving an indefinite suspension following a February arrest on charges of carrying a concealed weapon and running from police.

The incident occurred on Jan. 31 in Starks’ hometown of Marrero, Louisiana. NOLA.com reported that Starks was arrested and charged after allegedly running away from officers who stopped him while investigating a complaint about an armed man selling crack cocaine. No drugs were found on Starks at the time of the arrest.

Starks saw action in three games during LSU’s national championship run last season but didn’t record any stats. Despite playing sparingly as a true freshman, Starks was a four-star prospect and the No. 159 overall player in the Class of 2019.

The 6-foot-1, 217-pounder from John Ehret High School was expected to contend for playing time in a new-look LSU defense that has plenty of holes to replace under first-year coordinator Bo Pelini. The Tigers lost linebackers K’Lavon Chaisson, Patrick Queen and Jacob Phillips off of last year’s national title-winning squad.

Dean Laidley lived in an AFL bubble for 30 years, but has confronted longstanding mental health issues since leaving the game.

The 53-year-old former player and coach has been bailed to attend a residential rehabilitation facility, a week after being charged with stalking a woman.

Teammates, coaches and club doctors lined up to support the ex-West Coast and North Melbourne player as he successfully sought bail on Monday.

Former coaches Mark Williams, Guy McKenna and Denis Pagan wrote references for Laidley, as did his former North Melbourne teammates Brent Harvey and Wayne Schwass and ex-club president James Brayshaw.

However, his barrister Phil Dunn QC doesn’t know whether Laidley registers all that support.

“All he knows is that he’s in a bad place,” he told the bail hearing.

“He’s obviously very sorry that it’s all happened. What he wants to do is get some calm and peaceful time to sort himself out.”

Laidley’s mental health had been low for some time as he struggled with gender dysmorphia, substance abuse and thoughts of self harm, he said.

He said Laidley had lived in a structured football bubble for 30 years and issues has crept to the surface since leaving the AFL.

“This man here now is a very different person to those who knew him and knew him well,” Mr Dunn said.

The lawyer said Laidley was ashamed and wanted to become a better person. He and his family were devastated at the release of photos of him in custody wearing a dress and a blonde wig, he added.

Four officers have been suspended and are expected to be charged over what Chief Commissioner Graham Ashton labelled a serious breach of privacy.

Details emerges about Dean Laidley’s arrest

Laidley is facing accusations he stalked a woman over a financial dispute.

Mr Dunn told Melbourne Magistrates Court the woman acknowledged late last year Laidley was at “rock bottom”, but within weeks she was living in an apartment he owned.

He said Laidley paid the deposit and mortgage on the apartment, and had sought legal advice over his “onerous” financial position.

It’s alleged he menaced and stalked the woman, calling her 43 times on May 2 before he was arrested.

He also allegedly took photos of her apartment building and contacted her body corporate asking for CCTV footage, which prosecutors argue was to stalk her.

After his arrested, police found 0.43g of crystals in a plastic bag inside an adhesive bra Laidley was wearing, as well as loose crystals believed to be methamphetamine, Senior Constable James Maddock told the hearing.

Laidley is not charged with drug offences.

Mr Dunn said his client was fighting allegations he had been involved in aggressive confrontations with the woman at the apartment complex and suggested CCTV footage could be used as evidence she was not telling the truth about their interactions.

Magistrate Kieran Gilligan agreed Laidley should be released to the 28-day rehabilitation program and a follow-up transitional program.

The AFL Players Association will fund Laidley’s in-house care at the facility, which offers 24-hour supervision, drug testing and treatment.

Georgia authorities arrested a white father and son Thursday and charged them with murder in the February shooting death of a black man they had pursued in a truck after spotting him running in their neighborhood.

The charges came more than two months after Ahmaud Arbery, 25, was killed on a residential street just outside the port city of Brunswick. His 26th birthday would have been Friday, May 8. National outrage over the case swelled this week after a cellphone video appeared to show the shooting.

Those close to Arbery celebrated the news, but also expressed frustration at the long wait.

The two have been charged with murder in the February shooting death of Ahmaud Arbery, whom they had pursued in a truck after spotting him running in their neighborhood.

Benjamin Crump, an attorney for the slain man’s father, Marcus Arbery, said it was “outrageous” that it took so long for arrests to be made.

“This is the first step to justice,” Crump said in a statement. “This murderous father and son duo took the law into their own hands. It’s a travesty of justice that they enjoyed their freedom for 74 days after taking the life of a young black man who was simply jogging.”

Jasmine Arbery, his sister, told CNN the day was a turning point, and the family felt a sense of relief.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation announced the arrests the day after it began its own investigation at the request of an outside prosecutor. The agency said in a news release that Gregory McMichael and his 34-year-old son, Travis McMichael, had both been jailed on charges of murder and aggravated assault.

The GBI news release said the McMichaels “confronted Arbery with two firearms. During the encounter, Travis McMichael shot and killed Arbery.” No other details were immediately released.

It was not immediately known if either of the McMichaels had an attorney who could comment on the charges.

The outcry over the killing reached the White House, where President Donald Trump offered condolences Thursday to Arbery’s family.
