A 17-year-old former Covington Catholic High School student will be tried as an adult in a rape case, according to Kenton County Commonwealth’s Attorney Rob Sanders.

Joseph Eubank was indicted Thursday on one count of rape in the first degree and three counts of sexual abuse in the first degree, according to court documents. The indictment states the incidents occurred on or between Feb. 1, 2017 and March 31, 2019.

Sanders said that each of the four charges pertains to a different victim. Each of those victims, he said, are teenage girls.

Eubank turned 17 while in custody after he was arrested in April, Sanders said. He was between 14 and 16 when the incidents occurred.

Eubank was listed as a sophomore on the Covington Catholic High School basketball team in March 2019, according to a Kentucky High School Athletic Association roster.

Sanders said Eubank remains in juvenile detention.

A former professional poker player attempted to scam people at Newark Liberty International Airport, but police called his bluff and arrested him.

Michael H. Borovetz, 43, of Pittsburgh, who competed in World Series of Poker events from 2012 to 2014 and won more than $50,000, according to his bio on the competition’s website, was arrested and charged Thursday night, said police.

Borovetz told a Princeton man at the airport his flight was canceled and needed $200 for a hotel room, according to Port Authority spokesman Joseph Pentangelo on Friday. The victim gave Borovetz the money he retrieved from a nearby ATM after he was told he’d be paid back, Pentangelo stated.

The victim became suspicious, though, and alerted Port Authority police. Detectives found Borovetz at a nearby Marriott Hotel and arrested him, according to Pentangelo. He was charged with theft and scheduled to appear in court April 17.

It was not Borovetz’s first scam at Newark Airport, Pentangelo stated. In June 2017, he scammed a San Jose man in similar fashion, according to Pentangelo.

Borovetz used to work as a chemical engineer, according to his World Series of Poker page.

Port Huron teen arrested and charged in threat, NFL player helped tip off authorities

PORT HURON (WJRT) – (04/04/18) – A school shooting plot in Michigan foiled all thanks to an NFL player who spoke up after someone left an alarming comment on his Instagram account.

Acting on the tip, authorities in Port Huron arrested a 14 year old boy and ended up charging him with making a false report of a threat of terrorism.

The social media account at the center of it all belongs to New England Patriots receiver Julian Edelman.

The photo posted March 25 is unrelated showing Edelman with a teammate amid news of a trade.

Among the 400 comments initially left, one of them contained the threat.

It has since been deleted, but another comment found by ABC12 still reads, “Can’t help but notice a kid saying he’s going to shoot up a school – can everybody alert the authority please? This is not something to joke about!”

One of Edelman’s fans sent him a message about it and the NFL player did take action.

He notified his assistant who found the comment and made a call to Boston police.

They took it one step further getting in touch with the Port Huron Police Department in eastern Michigan.

Authorities tracked down the boy accused of making the comment and according to he reportedly admitted to making the statement singling out Central Middle School as the target.

Police worked closely with the district keeping them informed throughout their investigation.

According to the Port Huron Times Herald, police Captain Joseph Platzer says two rifles belonging to the boy’s grandfather were found in the home.

The teenager remains in the juvenile center in Macomb County.

In a statement from Julian Edelman’s representatives he thanks the person on his social media account for alerting him to the threat saying “This individual’s thoughtfulness and awareness may have helped avert another tragedy.

Edelman says the man who tipped him off is “the real hero”.
