The NFL is trying its best to avoid disciplining Cleveland Browns wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. for his latest episode of bizarre behavior, perhaps in hopes that if they don’t address it, the situation might just go away. Or resolve itself.

There is nothing in the handbook covering slapping a security guard’s backside in public. OBJ seems to find new ways to re-write the code of conduct and this time, the act was so ridiculously childish, there’s no precedent.

Hence, let’s close our eyes, hope it goes away and maybe he won’t do anything like this again. Don’t count on it.

From Pro Football Talk:

A league spokesman tells PFT regarding whether Beckham faces any scrutiny from the NFL, “We have been monitoring the situation but will decline further comment.”

Beckham’s lawyer has informed ESPN.com that the arrest warrant arising from a slap to the butt of a Superdome security officer has been withdrawn. However, the absence of criminal charges does not insulate a player from scrutiny under the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy. Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott received a six-game suspension despite no arrest or charges, and free-agent receiver Antonio Brown spent most of 2019 on de facto unpaid suspension as the league investigates him for potential punishment, even though he also has not been arrested or charged.

The inappropriate touching of the security guard is just one half of the Beckham story. Of course, there is still the handing out of cash to LSU players after their National Championship victory over Clemson last week.

More from PFT:

The distribution of cash by Beckham to LSU players provides a separate cause for concern. If the NCAA directs LSU to disassociate itself from Beckham, the NFL may feel compelled to act against Beckham in some way, given the league’s constant efforts to keep content the custodians of its free farm system.

So, the NFL might not be able to turn the blind eye for much longer after all…

A former French star footballer who now directs FC Miami City’s soccer club was arrested Wednesday for smashing open a condominium apartment door, stealing a knife and spraying the apartment and a tenant with foam from a fire extinguisher.

Gregory ReneRobert Dutil, 37, was taken into custody while holding a cup of red wine and wearing only his boxer briefs and socks, Miami police said. He was booked into Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center and charged with armed burglary, burglary with assault or battery, two counts of criminal mischief, possession of coke and improperly using a fire extinguisher.

Police said just before handcuffing Dutil they noticed a bulge in the left side of his white briefs.

“The defendant then reached for the bulge at which point Officer Russell observed it to be a silver kitchen knife,” the arresting officer wrote in Dutil’s arrest form. “Officer Russell immediately confiscated the knife.”

Dutil, who now directs soccer in Miami began his professional career in the 1990s in France and played in that nation’s First and Second divisions before playing in Spain., according to his profile on the website for Miami FC, which is a semi-professional club in a developmental league. Dutil played on the French team Nimes Olympique during the 2011-2012 season, when it won its first French national title in over a decade.

Police said they were called to the Charter Club condominium at 600 NE 36th St. at about 9 a.m. Wednesday about vandalism and possible battery. When they arrived, Dutil’s arrest report says, the soccer player was sitting on a couch in the hallway wearing only his boxer briefs, socks and holding a cup of red wine.

After confiscating the knife, police said, they made contact with a woman in the apartment that Dutil is accused of breaking into. It was not clear from the arrest report if they knew each other. She told officers that he busted the door open, sprayed her in the face with foam from a fire extinguisher and went on to spray down much of the apartment.

The report says she ran to the balcony and screamed. When a security guard at the condo showed up, he told police that Dutil was still in the apartment. He said he managed to control Dutil and sit him down until police arrived. Police said the female tenant said that Dutil gotten the knife from her kitchen.

Police said the apartment floor was covered in red wine and once they searched Dutil they found suspected cocaine in his socks.

Dutil remained in jail Thursday afternoon. No bond had been set for the armed burglary and burglary with assault or battery charges. He could not be reached for comment and it was not immediately clear if he had retained an attorney.

It was originally reported that Actor Tim Allen was Cory McGinnis’ uncle.

A reliable source tells KDKA-TV that McGinnis is not actor Allen’s nephew, as reported by MLB.com and Auburn University Montgomery’s website.

Instead, McGinnis is Allen’s wife’s sister’s husband’s brother’s son.

A strange break-in has occurred over the weekend with a former professional baseball player, who was allegedly found by police fast asleep with slices of pizza scattered around.

Cory McGinnis, 26, of Gibsonia, is charged with burglary.

He played on minor league teams for the Chicago White Sox and was even drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates but never signed.

But police say when McGinnis broke into a South Side business; he didn’t make any improvements. He did, however, make himself at home.

“It was locked, and he kicked and smashed it out,” said Phil LaBoon as he explained how an intruder broke into the business Eyeflow Internet Marketing on East Carson Street. “It was an enormou thick glass, and he just kicked his way through it.”

The company had had a pizza party on Friday, and LaBoon says the intruder found the leftovers.

“So the fridge was filled with leftover pizza, and he came in and just dumped a whole bunch of stuff out including pizza, and there were trails of pizza leading to the backroom,” said LaBoon.

That backroom is where police responding the burglar alarm say they found McGinnis sound asleep.

“He went through our office and got all the pillows from outside and the other offices and then he made kind of a little bed here,” said LaBoon, as he pointed to the spot where police say McGinnis found sleeping.

LaBoon claims McGinnis got nice and cozy, turning on the heater and even charging up his cell phone.

“He was sleeping like a baby on a pile of pillows,” said LaBoon.

According to police arrest papers, pizza sauce was found on McGinnis’ left shoulder, and slices were scattered around. Aside from the pizza, he’s not accused of stealing anything, but he charged with burglary.

And as for the break-in: “He was looking for food, and he was looking for somewhere to sleep,” said LaBoon.

KDKA-TV tried reaching McGinnis to get his side of this, but so far, no response.
