ROCKVILLE — Peter Manfredonia — the University of Connecticut student accused of two killings, kidnapping, home invasion and other crimes — has been placed on suicide watch while he’s held on $7 million bond.

Manfredonia, 23, appeared for his arraignment Friday via video conference from the lockup in state Superior Court in Rockville. Wearing a white shirt and face mask, Manfredonia did not speak during the 10-minute hearing.

Manfredonia did not enter a plea to the charges of murder, attempted murder, first-degree assault, home invasion, kidnapping and other offenses related to the crimes police say he committed in Willington last month.

The Newtown High grad is expected to face more charges next week in connection with the Derby homicide of a former high school classmate and the kidnapping of the man’s girlfriend, police said.

Manfredonia was returned to Connecticut early Friday from Maryland, where he was captured May 27 following a six-day manhunt.

Defense attorney Michael Dolan requested his client be placed on suicide and mental health watch while he’s held in jail.

Dolan, who said his client will eventually plead not guilty to the charges, declined to comment after the hearing whether he was pursuing a mental health defense.

Superior Court Judge Hope Seeley denied Dolan’s request to lower his client’s bond to $2 million. Seeley instead increased it to $7 million — $5 million in the Willington homicide case and $2 million for a separate home invasion in that town.

Tolland State’s Attorney Matthew C. Gedansky requested high bail, noting the strength of the state’s case, severity of the crimes alleged and the risk Manfredonia poses to the community.

“These are both very strong cases for the state,” Gedansky told the judge. “The defendant presents a particular danger to the community.”

Manfredonia has been charged with murder, criminal attempt to commit murder, first-degree assault, home invasion, kidnapping, first-degree kidnapping with a firearm, first-degree robbery, first-degree larceny, two counts of first-degree stealing a firearm, and third-degree assault of an elderly person. The arrest warrant for the Willington crimes has been sealed for 14 days.

The case was continued to July 10 and a probable cause hearing has been scheduled for July 30.

Photos of Manfredonia’s former bedroom were turned over to police that show hand-written messages on the walls, according to an attorney representing a man who is considered a cooperating witness in the case. One of the messages references Adam Lanza, who killed 20 first-graders and six educators at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012 and lived on the same street as Manfredonia’s childhood home.

State police have not released a motive for the series of events that began May 22 when they say Manfredonia attacked two men with a type of machete in upstate Connecticut.

A source close to the investigation said Manfredonia was heading to see his former girlfriend in Willington when his motorcycle broke down.

Theodore DeMers offered Manfredonia a ride on his four-wheeler when police say the 62-year-old man was fatally attacked with an “edged” weapon. John Franco, 80, was critically injured in the attack when he came to help his neighbor. Alice Franco told Hearst Connecticut Media that the condition of her husband, a U.S. Navy vet who grew up in Trumbull, has improved with the most serious injuries to his hands.

Police said Manfredonia went into hiding before holding a Willington man captive two days later. The man was left unharmed after police say Manfredonia stole his guns, food, supplies and his truck during the home invasion.

A few hours later, police recovered the stolen truck in Derby, setting off an extensive search that led authorities to a Roosevelt Drive home about a mile away. Inside the home, police said they found the body of Nicholas Eisele, a former Newtown High School classmate of Manfredonia.

The state’s medical examiner said Eisele was shot several times in the head. Police said Manfredonia kidnapped the 23-year-old man’s girlfriend who was found several hours later unharmed in New Jersey.

Investigators tracked Manfredonia to Pennsylvania and then Maryland where he surrendered without incident near a truck stop on May 27.

ROCKVILLE — Peter Manfredonia — the University of Connecticut student accused of two killings, kidnapping, home invasion and other crimes — has been placed on suicide watch while he’s held on $7 million bond.

Manfredonia, 23, was arraigned Friday in state Superior Court in Rockville on charges related to crimes police say he committed in Willington last month. Manfredonia is expected to face more charges next week in connection with the homicide of a former high school classmate and the kidnapping of the man’s girlfriend, police said.

Manfredonia was returned to Connecticut early Friday from Maryland, where he was captured May 27 following a six-day manhunt.

Manfredonia did not enter a plea during his arraignment, but his attorney, Michael Dolan, said his client will eventually plead not guilty to the charges.

Superior Court Judge Hole Seeley increased Manfredonia’s bond to $7 million — $5 million in the Willington homicide case and $2 million for a separate home invasion in that town — and the case was continued to July 10.

Dolan said Manfredonia’s family could not post the $2 million recommended by a bail commissioner, but the judge denied the attorney’s request for lower bond.

Dolan said Manfredonia is a lifelong Connecticut resident, UConn student and has no record. He asked for a suicide watch and mental health watch for his client while in the state Department of Correction custody.

Manfredonia, 23, who was extradited from Maryland where he was captured last month after six days on the run, has been charged with murder, criminal attempt to commit murder, first-degree assault, two counts of stealing a firearm, and assault of an elderly person, among other offenses. The arrest warrant for the Willington crimes has been sealed for 14 days.

A probable cause hearing could be held in late July, Dolan said. Dolan declined to comment about whether Manfredonia’s mental health would be the main focus of his defense.

Manfredonia, an accomplished football player and track athlete at Newtown High School where he graduated in 2015, is a senior at the UConn, where he is a finance and mechanical engineering student.

State police have not released a motive for the series of events that began May 22 when they say Manfredonia attacked two men with a type of machete in upstate Connecticut.

FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – Bond has been set for NFL free agent Antonio Brown’s trainer, Glenn Holt, who along with Brown, is accused of battering a man at the player’s home on Tuesday.

Holt’s attorney Eric Rudenberg reached an agreement with the prosecution for a $20-thousand bond and he is to have no contact with the alleged victim.

“This is a serious charge but these allegations are way overblown,” said Rudenberg. “The charge of burglary with a battery carries a punishment of up to life in prison, but this incident, the allegations are extremely minor, it’s something about tussling over keys to a truck. This is not the kind of thing you’d expect people to go to prison for at all, let alone, punishable by life.”

Hollywood police were called to Brown’s residence in the Oaks Gated Community off Sterling Road at around 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

Upon arrival, police came in contact with a man who said he had been battered by Brown and Holt.

Officers located Holt, who was taken into custody one count of burglary with battery. As for Brown, police said he was nowhere to be found.

“The police report alleges that there was a disagreement about movers and some items belonging to Antonio Brown. And then the charge that followed and led to my client’s arrest regarding the keys to the truck and an argument over possession of those keys,” said Rudenberg.

Hollywood police spokesperson Christian Lata stopped short of saying Brown was a suspect, saying only that detectives are “conducting a thorough investigation” and “are looking into all aspects of the investigation.”

“Mr. Brown has been through a lot this year in the media and there’s an instinct sometimes to kick people when they’re down. I hope the public and State Attorney’s Office will wait to hear what the evidence is before jumping to any conclusions,” said Rudenberg.

The Hollywood Police Department, which has now responded to four incidents involving Brown in the past three months, recently cut ties with Brown following an outburst aimed at officers responding to a domestic dispute.

Brown’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, reportedly dropped him until Brown can seek counsel.

YORK COUNTY, S.C. (CN2 NEWS) — A 26-year-old who played football for Northwestern High School is facing murder charges.

The family of Montrece Kennedy says he also played for California State University.

But now, he is charged with murdering a man just two days after Christmas.

A judge has yet to make a decision on Kennedy’s bond hearing – because as CN2’s Indira Eskieva learned – there are several factors affecting the judge’s decision.

One nuance the judge will consider when making his decision – is Montrece Kennedy’s safety. Prosecutors say there is a lot of tension between families on both sides.

“At least his family can see him. I go to the graveyard everyday,” Demetria Dockery said.

Dockery says she practically raised her brother, 39 year-old Robert Dockery Junior.

Detectives say Dockery was shot to death on Calhoun Street in Rock Hill – just two days after Christmas.

Former Northwester High School Football Player – 26-year-old Montrece Kennedy – is charged with his murder.

“And I know that he want to take this back – but unfortunately, we can’t turn back the hands of time,” the suspect’s aunt, Constance, said.

Detectives say on December 27th — Dockery and Kennedy got into an argument over Dockery’s dog.

Witnesses say the argument escalated – and Dockery pulled a knife out – which is when Kennedy pulled out a gun.

“We did find a knife within the vicinity of Mr. Dockery. However, one of the witnesses said that Mr. Dockery fled from Mr. Kennedy so fast – that she thought he had made it further than from where his body was discovered,” Det. Quate said.

Rosie Jones says Dockery had two children, including her 8 year old son.

She says she doesn’t want Kennedy released on bond – because he used to be friends with Dockery – and her son would recognize the man charged with his father’s murder.

“You know I don’t want my son to go outside because he knows Montrece, and “there the man who killed my father.” What kind of shock would that bring him,” Jones stated.

But Kennedy’s family says he is not violent, and was only defending himself.

“If my nephew could take it all back, he would. But if he could take it all back – and the man had a chance to use the knife, this man is not no saint,” Constance said.

Prosecutors said Kennedy does have a history involving possession of marijuana. They said he was federally prohibited from owning a firearm at the time of the alleged incident.

We’ll let you know as soon we we know whether the judge decides to set bond.

Initially, the story, according to authorities, went like this:

A 16-year-old kid was riding his bike while wearing a backpack off Wellborn Road in DeKalb County on a May afternoon in 2017. Another young man saw him, shot him dead and took the backpack.

Adaren Carter, then-21, and his cousin Jacob Maddox, then a 16-year-old Miller Grove High football player and considered an accomplice, were charged with felony murder.

A year later, court records reveal a very different case. It is Maddox who prosecutors believe was the shooter, and he was recently granted $100,000 bond by Judge Daniel Coursey. Meanwhile, Carter has pleaded out, convicted of only theft by taking, and is awaiting sentencing.

The story, according to transcript from the May 21 bond hearing released this week, now goes like this:

Tyler Bingham was riding his bike when Maddox drove up next to him in an SUV. For reasons no one knows (or has revealed) Bingham pulled a gun and shot at the SUV.

Maddox drove away.

Carter was around the corner, listening to music on his headphones, when he got a call from his cousin saying the kid on the bike just shot at him.

Carter decided to look for Bingham. When he found him, they started fighting. He allegedly dropped the younger, smaller boy to the ground.

Then Maddox showed up with his own gun and, though Carter told him not to shoot, authorities claim he fired on the 16-year-old.

Bingham got up and ran through a cut in the woods. Bullets followed him. He left a blood trail while racing to a neighbor’s house  for help. No one was home.

The shot to the liver was the fatal one.

Carter took the backpack and says he gave it Maddox.

The victim’s father didn’t say his son was right (or wrong for allegedly firing the gun), but he asked the judge not to grant Maddox bond.

“There is no reason why he should be out free where every week I got to go to the cemetery to talk to my son,” Charles Arthelo said on the stand. “We keep giving these kids passes to get in trouble, get out of jail, get in trouble, get out of jail. Somewhere along the line, we’ve got to stop this.”

Maddox’s defense attorney Torris Butterfield said he didn’t believe his client was the shooter. Maddox has no criminal record, he said, while his cousin does.

Butterfield also argued that Maddox is a DeKalb native and intends to live with his mother in the Lithonia area and attend court.

Prosecutor Teresa Stolze said she’ll prove at trial that Maddox was the shooter, who could’ve avoided all this by simply calling the police instead of seeking out Bingham to shoot him.

“He’s the one that pulled the trigger and ended a 16-year-old boy’s life,” she said.

Jail records show Maddox remained in jail Friday. He could be released whenever he posts bond.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) – The family of a woman critically injured in an attack Monday morning on the pedestrian bridge in downtown Nashville wants the suspect’s bond to be revoked.

A review hearing for Nadir Barnwell is set for Wednesday afternoon. The 22-year-old, a former football player at Tennessee Tech and Rutgers University, is charged with attempted criminal homicide.

Metro police reported Barnwell was with the victim on the John Seigenthaler Pedestrian Bridge just before 3 a.m. Monday when officers were called to the area because the woman needed medical attention.

Barnwell reportedly told officers the woman was intoxicated and she fell while he was carrying her.

According to an arrest warrant, detectives reviewed surveillance video from the bridge and saw Barnwell grab the woman’s throat and shake her head before releasing her to the ground, where her head bounced off the pavement.

Police said Barnwell eventually called for help.

“He waited 39 minutes to call the police. 39 minutes. It’s a miracle she’s still alive,” the victim’s uncle John Betancourt told News 2. “He told police that he couldn’t remember.”

The victim was admitted to a Nashville hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

Betancourt said his niece suffered a skull fracture, bleeding from her brain and a broken arm.

“We don’t know what’s going to happen,” Betancourt said of the young woman’s injuries.

Bond for Barnwell was set at $300,000.

“I want to see justice done,” Betancourt said. “We have to send a message. If we don’t send a message because this person is a star, what do we have laws for? Might as well send the young man home and say forget it.”

News 2 is not identifying the woman involved as she is a victim of domestic violence.

Former Michigan State football player Auston Robertson violated conditions of his bond for sexual assault charges when he was arrested on suspicion of aggravated armed robbery in Kansas earlier this week.

Robertson was charged with two counts of third-degree criminal sexual conduct last summer for allegedly forcing a woman into non-consensual sex at her apartment near Michigan State’s campus last April. Robertson pleaded not guilty to those charges and was scheduled to go to trial in Michigan next month.

Ingham County Judge Clinton Canady had allowed Robertson to move to Kansas and play football at Garden City Community College — the 2016 national champion at the junior college level — while he awaited trial.

Canady revoked Robertson’s bond at a hearing Thursday morning after learning he had been arrested again.

The Ingham County Prosecutor’s office released a statement Thursday saying it hopes revoking Robertson’s bond will allow his case in Michigan to continue moving forward.

“Our office previously objected to the bond conditions that allowed the defendant to travel out of state,” prosecutor Carol Siemon said. “While hindsight is of course 20-20, we believed at the time that continued placement here in Ingham County would allow the court to properly supervise this defendant during the pre-trial phase. It is always disconcerting when a criminal defendant fails the conditions of their bond and we believe the courts have now taken the proper action.”

Police in Kansas arrested Robertson on Monday on suspicion of aggravated armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, distribution of marijuana and interfering with law enforcement officers and are holding him on a $300,000 bond. He has not yet been formally charged with any of those crimes.

If he leaves police custody in Kansas, he will need to report to authorities in Michigan because his bond there has been revoked.

Robertson, 20, was previously arrested on a misdemeanor battery charge while in high school after a female classmate accused him of touching her inappropriately. Michigan State delayed signing Robertson to a scholarship in 2016 while the legal process for that charge played out.

Coach Mark Dantonio dismissed Robertson in April 2017 when he was charged with criminal sexual conduct after one season with the team.

Robertson’s sexual assault trial was scheduled to begin May 14, according to Brent Leder, the attorney who represents Robertson in that case. However, Leder said that trial might be put on hold while Robertson sorts through his legal issues in Kansas.

Leder said he does not represent Robertson in those matters and did not know any details of that arrest.

“We had a very brief conversations related to the hearing that was scheduled for [Thursday], and I gave him some basic legal advice,” Leder said.

Robertson was one of four former Michigan State football players charged with sexual assault crimes last summer. In a separate case, Josh King, Donnie Corley and Demetric Vance pleaded guilty to seduction charges earlier this month as part of an agreement that will likely keep them out of prison. The sentencing hearing for those three players is scheduled to take place June 6.

Two rugby players Lawrence Frank Wanyama and Alex  Mahaga Olaba were arraigned in Milimani Magistrate Court where they were charged with gang-rape on Monday morning.

The duo were accused of intentionally and jointly raping a local singer on February 11 at Seefa apartments in Highrise in Nairobi.

While appearing before the Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi the two denied charges which contravenes section 10 of the Sexual offenses Act.

Wanyama and Olaba were then freed 1million shillings bond with a surety of the same amount or a cash bail of 500,000 shillings.

Defence counsels Wafula simiyu and Ombui Ratemo pleaded for lenient bond terms saying the two are contracted players of the National Rugby team hence they are not a flight risk.

Lawyers further persuaded the court for the duo to have their passports returned since they underwent DNA tests already, and they will be required to represent the country in the fourth coming rugby games.

The two, who play for Kenya Harlequin FC were arrested after a woman  identified in court as W. A. claimed that one of the players who was her friend raped her after  she had agreed to go to his house for her birthday on February 10.

But while talking about the incident on the social media, the complainant took to her twitter page to narrate her experience in more profound way but put in another dimension to the story.

She alleged player drugged her and then raped her with his friend, whom she did not know.  What would ensue would be another claim that she was pregnant she wanted the players charged.

She said:

“I was slipping in and out of consciousness maybe due to shock but I was helpless. I couldn’t fight two men who play rugby professionally, obviously they were stronger hence I let them do whatever they wanted to do the whole night.”

“I could’ve reported the case to police but I was in denial, shock, pain and exhausted! I didn’t want to report also because of the profile of one of these rugby players,” she added.?
