REVEALED: England and Chelsea star Callum Hudson-Odoi, 19, was arrested on suspicion of rape after a model he met online called police and said she was attacked at his Battersea apartment

  • Chelsea star Callum Hudson-Odoi was arrested on suspicion of rape in the early hours of Sunday
  • A model he met online and invited to his home had called police
  • The Metropolitan Police confirmed a woman went to hospital and a man was arrested
  • Hudson-Odoi was released on bail on Monday morning and has not made any formal comment but a friend said he denied any wrongdoing

Callum Hudson-Odoi was arrested on suspicion of rape in the early hours of Sunday morning after a model he met online and invited to his home was taken to hospital.

Metropolitan Police officers attended reports of an incident at the England international’s apartment after being called by the woman. An ambulance also attended the scene.

The 19-year-old was arrested by officers and taken into police custody before being released on bail. He reported to Chelsea’s Cobham base on Monday for a coronavirus test ahead of the return to group training this week.

A police spokesman said: ‘Police and London Ambulance Service were called at 03:53hrs on Sunday, 17 May to a report of an unwell woman.

‘When emergency services attended, a woman reported that she was raped. She was taken to hospital.

‘A man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of rape. He was released from custody and bailed to return on a date in mid-June.’

Police returned to Hudson-Odoi’s property on Sunday to continue their investigations into the matter.

The Sun reported that Hudson-Odoi met the woman online and invited her to his home, in breach of lockdown guidelines, sending a vehicle to collect her.

Neighbours of the 19-year-old told The Sun that his acquaintance was ‘very glamorous’ before the property was ‘crawling with police’.

The report says that the Chelsea star is said to have asked the woman to arrive at his property wearing lingerie and that the pair exchanged flirtatious messages beforehand.

Hudson-Odoi retreated to the family home near Wimbledon on Monday.

He revealed in March that he had contracted coronavirus and, despite having a Covid-19 test on Monday, there is now doubt over whether the teenager can return to training this week after ignoring lockdown advice in the incident that led to his arrest.

Premier League clubs were cleared to resume training in small groups on Monday, but even if Hudson-Odoi tests negative, Chelsea may refuse to let him join in, given he has broken the guidelines by coming into close contact with people outside his household.

After contracting coronavirus along with Mikel Arteta, football was shut down in England

Additional police officers arrived at the home on Sunday afternoon to carry out searches

‘I had the virus which has cleared now. I fully feel good, I feel fit, so I am feeling back to myself so it is all good,’ he said at the start of April.

‘I had it [the illness] three weeks ago now I think, on a Monday when I felt a bit hot and I was thinking this is a bit unusual, why do I feel this hot. The next day I was feeling back to normal.

‘I thought it was just a minor temperature thing, but obviously it wasn’t. I said to myself this wasn’t actually that bad, the symptoms, and I said to myself ‘I feel good, I feel better’.

‘Everyone has been asking me how I have been which has been class from them. They have been showing me support and saying ‘Cal, get well soon, I hope you are okay now’.

‘It has been very warming and a good feeling to know you have got your team-mates behind you, backing you and making sure you are feeling well and encouraging you.’

Hudson-Odoi has emerged as one of the Premier League club’s most exciting prospects over the past two seasons. Last year, the 19-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Bayern Munich, who tabled three bids for the winger worth as much as £45million.

Last September, he became one of the best-paid teenagers in world football after signing extended terms with the Blues worth a mind-boggling £180,000 per week.

Hudson-Odoi’s representatives and Chelsea both declined to comment on Monday night.

More than 60 current and former NFL players and coaches signed their names to a letter to Attorney General William Barr last week asking he use the full force of federal law to investigate the fatal shooting of Ahmaud Arbery, a black man followed and fatally shot by white men in his Georgia community on Feb. 23.

That letter from the Players Coalition, a social justice group formed in 2017 in the wake of player protests during the national anthem, said the Department of Justice and FBI are needed to ensure Arbery’s case wasn’t mishandled by local authorities and that the men charged with murder are held accountable.

NFL star Malcolm Jenkins, who co-founded the coalition with retired wide receiver Anquan Boldin, told NBC News that the request for federal intervention also carries a greater purpose.

“The sad truth is that Ahmaud’s case isn’t unique at all,” Jenkins said. “He is a representation of the ongoing level of distrust that a large part of our communities have in law enforcement and elected officials and the importance of placing reform like-minded people in office who will uphold the highest standards of the law for everyone, regardless of color.”

“It also reinforces that we need hate crime laws in Georgia as well as Arkansas, South Carolina and Wyoming,” Jenkins said of the four states lacking such legislation. “These ‘loopholes’ to justify these kinds of acts will continue to hold us back from justice for everyone.”

Among those who support the Players Coalition’s letter are former NFL player and now-league executive Troy Vincent, Miami Dolphins linebacker Kyle Van Noy, New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman and former Patriot and new Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady.

On Friday, Jenkins joined people across the country who jogged for 2.23 miles to remember Arbery.

“Rest in peace, king,” said Jenkins, a veteran safety who won two Super Bowl championships, one with the New Orleans Saints and the other with the Philadelphia Eagles and re-signed with the Saints earlier this year, in an online video. “Doing my jog for you.”

On Monday, the DOJ said it is weighing the possibility of federal hate crime charges, giving Jenkins hope.

“The FBI and DOJ have an army of resources, and their goal never changes: to protect the vulnerable and intervene where powerful people have caused grave harm,” he said. “They obtained a guilty verdict in the Rodney King case. They held the perpetrators of the Danziger Bridge shootings accountable. They have prosecuted guards at Parchman prisons. And they have led investigations all over the country that have proved critical in restoring trust between law enforcement and people of color.”

Arbrey’s death has resonated with Jenkins and others who say they see themselves in his shoes. He said that as a black man — regardless of personal his status as a pro athlete — he understands the burden of being scrutinized and the implicit bias of others when he’s out in public.

“Everyday. Walking the dog, taking out the trash, just walking through my own neighborhood, you always must be conscious of what you look like,” he said. “People should not have to worry about the color of their skin or gender to go out for a run in their own neighborhood.”

According to his family, Arbery, 25, was out for a jog on the February day he was killed, an activity the former high school football player did regularly. White men in a pickup truck with guns chased him in their Georgia neighborhood in Brunswick, a small working-class port city, and told police they suspected him of burglarizing a nearby home.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation arrested Gregory McMichael, 64, and his son, Travis McMichael, 34, on charges of felony murder and aggravated assault. The men have been jailed since Thursday, and it was unclear if they have a lawyer.

The lag in an arrest — which came more than two months after the incident and following the release of a leaked video of the shooting — frustrated many community members who believe that the McMichaels’ ties with local authorities and racial bias played a role.

Gregory McMichael was a Glynn County police officer in the 1980s and worked as an investigator in the prosecutor’s office in Brunswick until his retirement in May 2019. The prosecutor, Jackie Johnson, had to recuse herself in the case, and then a replacement prosecutor, George Barnhill of the Waycross Judicial District, also stepped aside after Arbery’s family learned that Barnhill’s son had worked alongside Gregory McMichael in Johnson’s office.

The case was transferred to yet another outside prosecutor. Meanwhile, Barnhill also wrote a letter in April detailing why he didn’t believe the McMichaels should have been arrested, and that they, along with a third man who recorded the video, had “solid first hand probable cause” to pursue Arbery, a “burglary suspect,” and stop him under Georgia’s citizen’s arrest law.

Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr, who this week asked the Department of Justice to help investigate the case, told NBC News on Monday that part of an investigation needs to determine why those previous district attorneys in the case never told his office that they had conflicts that should have precluded their involvement in the first place. Carr has since appointed a new outside prosecutor — the fourth — to handle the case.

But the earliest a grand jury is expected to be convened is mid-June, when juries in Georgia may resume activity following coronavirus-related restrictions.

Meanwhile, new surveillance videos being reviewed by investigators appear to show Arbery entering a construction site of an unoccupied home on the McMichaels’ block just before he was chased and killed. Attorneys for his family say the videos only show he was “trespassing at most,” and not engaged in other criminal activity.

Jenkins said the video apparently showing Arbery locked in a physical struggle with Travis McMichael was hard to watch.

“Any human being who has seen the video should connect to Ahmaud,” he said. “That said, it is an extremely hard pill to swallow as a black person to watch yet another black body be shot down in the middle of the street. But the most infuriating thing is, as you mourn the loss of a life, is to have their murder justified by white fear and self-defense.”

An autopsy report released Monday shows that Arbery died from two shotgun blasts to the chest and suffered a shotgun graze to his right wrist.

Jenkins said Arbery’s death should be another call to action for people to reexamine the need for citizen’s arrest laws and to hold elected officials and district attorneys accountable for their decisions.

Jenkins, a three-time Pro Bowl safety, has become one of the NFL’s most outspoken players on issues of racial justice. He began using his platform when he formed The Malcolm Jenkins Foundation, a nonprofit charity he started with his mother during his first stint on the Saints’ roster a decade ago. His latest project with his production company, Listen Up Media, includes a documentary called, “Black Boys,” about the black male identity in America.

As for whether this one case would lead to renewed player protests should the NFL kick off a new season later this year, Jenkins said it would be a “disservice” to narrow any activity for a single cause because the larger struggle reaches back far longer.

“The anger and frustration being expressed by professional athletes and people of color all over the country stems from a centuries-long thread of violence against the black body that goes without consequence or justice,” he added. “This has been going on since emancipation.”

KNOXVILLE, Tenn — Bodycam and patrol car footage reveals more details about the arrest of a UT football player that Coach Jeremy Pruitt called “unacceptable” and prompted an apology from the player.

Vols linebacker Jeremy Banks, 19, was arrested after a traffic stop revealed he had an outstanding warrant for failure to appear out of Knox County.

On July 17, 2019, he was charged with driving on a suspended license after being pulled over on Kingston Pike at South Concord Street. That charge still applied when he was stopped early in the morning Sunday, Sept. 15, the day after the UT-Chattanooga game.

In the video, which was released at the request of 10News, Banks said he was dropping off a friend at Stokely Hall when he was pulled over for making an illegal U-turn.

WARNING: ADULT LANGUAGE

He initially told the officer that he didn’t have his license on him, but then admitted it was suspended.

When the officer ran Banks’ information, he found the outstanding warrant with a $500 bond and placed him under arrest.

As the officer patted him down, Banks said he was a football player and asked to call head coach Jeremy Pruitt multiple times.

Banks was led to a patrol car and put in the back seat.

Officers asked if he had anything illegal in his car, and when he said no, he consented to have it searched. Officers did not find anything illegal in the car.

Since his car was not impounded, officers helped Banks call a friend to come and pick it up. However, when the friend arrived, officers found his license was suspended as well.

Banks’ friend called another person to come to pick up the car. With his license coming back as valid, Banks asked for them to post his bond and they were able to move the car.

Banks then called Pruitt, who ended up talking to the arresting officer on speakerphone.

Pruitt told the officer that he was aware of the traffic ticket and had a state trooper walk Banks through the process of paying it off since Banks had no one at home to help him with legal issues.

Pruitt said he was not aware of the warrant and asked about it several times.

WARNING: ADULT LANGUAGE

“So why do you, I mean, why do you have to arrest him just ’cause he’s a warrant?” Pruitt can be heard saying over the phone.

“That’s because the state of Tennessee is the one who issued the warrant so I have to take him in for that warrant. Like I said, I have no choice about that. If it was just a suspended license, I could have discretion on that,” the officer replied.

For most of the video, Banks was cooperative and respectful to the officers and spent a lot of time in the back of the cruiser.

He asked to have his cuffs adjusted a couple of times because they were too tight and swore at officers a few times when he got frustrated.

Banks also asked to call a friend to tell him which detention facility he was going to so he could be bonded out.

Just before they started toward the detention center, Banks made a controversial comment to a woman who was riding along with the officer.

“Ma’am, you don’t wanna be an intern because where I’m from we shoot at cops. I’m from Memphis, Tennessee,” he said.

The officer stopped the conversation before it could escalate.

On the way to the detention center, Banks alternated between singing, making light conversation and insulting the officer.

“I should have ran, test y’all’s speed. Y’all would’ve never caught me,” Banks said repeatedly in the cruiser.

Banks also told the officer he’s going to make sure he can’t get into Neyland Stadium.

At the time of his arrest, UT athletics said in a statement, “We are aware of the situation. It was related to an unresolved traffic violation which he has now resolved.”

Banks remains on the team at this time. He traveled with the team to Florida but did not play.

In a statement on Tuesday, Pruitt said, “Jeremy’s behavior and comments are unacceptable and portrayed himself and our football program very poorly and he understands that. We will address the matter internally. I’m determined to do what I can to help Jeremy grow up and become a better man. Our team and staff respect our law enforcement and we will continue to educate our players on how to carry themselves at all times.”

Banks also made a statement on Tuesday saying, “I want to sincerely apologize to my family, the University of Tennessee and the law enforcement community. I deeply regret my language and attitude in the video. I have great respect for our policemen and women, and I am embarrassed by my actions that night. That’s not who I am. I promise to be a better representative for the University of Tennessee moving forward.”

T.J. Miller, who appeared in HBO’s “Silicon Valley” and also in the movie “Ready Player One,” has been arrested on federal charges after making up a story last month about a woman having a bomb on an Amtrak train heading to Connecticut, a U.S. Attorney’s spokesman said Tuesday.

Todd “T.J.” Miller, 36, of New York, N.Y., was charged with intentionally conveying to law enforcement false information about an explosive device on a train, Thomas Carson said. He was arrested Monday night at LaGuardia Airport in Queens, N.Y., and released on $100,000 bail after his appearance Tuesday in U.S. District Court in New Haven.

According to the criminal complaint, the actor called 911 on March 18 while on an Amtrak train in New Jersey and provided a description of a woman on the train who he said “has a bomb in her bag.” He said she kept checking her bag without taking anything out and seemed to want to get off the train and leave her bag behind.

By the time Amtrak investigators learned of the call and stopped the train — which Miller identified as Amtrak train 2256 — it had left Penn Station in New York City and was in Connecticut. The train was stopped in Westport, passengers were told to get off, and members of the Connecticut State Police bomb squad searched the train but found no explosives.

Amtrak police also stopped a second train, Amtrak 2258, which police said is the train on which Miller actually was riding before he got off in New York. There was no bomb on that train, either, although police found the woman who matched his description of the woman with the bomb, the complaint said.

Investigators learned that Miller seemed intoxicated when he boarded the train, where he drank two glasses of wine and two double scotch and soda drinks, police said. An attendant in the first class car also told them that Miller was involved in a “screaming match” with the woman, which included profanity, but the woman denied having had a loud argument, police said.

The female passenger, who police said smelled as if she, too, had been drinking, told investigators Miller had been admonished by the attendant for talking too loudly on his cellphone. He also made an unwelcome comment about her hair, after which she shot him a dirty look, she said.

Investigators also learned that Miller had been ordered off the train at Penn Station because of his intoxication.

Miller had a chance to retract what he said in his initial 911 call about the woman with the bomb when an Amtrak police officer called his cellphone after Miller got off the train. But Miller went on to provide more detail about the woman, although he changed his description of her hair from brown to red, according to police. He also said, “This is the first time I’ve ever made a call like this. … I am worried for everyone on that train. Someone has to check that lady out,” police said.

The false report inconvenienced 1,145 rail travelers, according to the FBI agent who wrote the criminal complaint. The two trains that were searched were delayed more than an hour, and other trains were delayed as well, the complaint said.

Besides “Silicon Valley” and the recently released film “Ready Player One,” he also appears in “Deadpool,” “Office Christmas Party” and “The Emoji Movie.”
