A 20-year old Colorado State football player was going door-to-door at his part-time roofing job in Loveland, Colorado, when he was ordered to the ground at gunpoint by a 65-year old resident in the neighborhood.  Loveland Police told 9News.com there is no evidence that the player, or his 27-year old co-worker, did anything wrong when Scott Gudmundsen called police and said there were two “Antifa guys” in neighborhood that he was going out to “confront” them.

When police arrived, Gundmundsen was dressed in fatigues and holding the two roofing company employees on the ground at gunpoint.

Gundmundsen was arrested and charged with two counts of felony menacing and two counts of false imprisonment.

Police have not made the names of the victims public, nor has Colorado State confirmed the identity of the football player. A letter was sent to CSU students on Friday night to address the incident, signed by Colorado State President Joyce McConnell, athletic director Joe Parker and football coach Steve Addazio.

“Our student is a young man of color, while the perpetrator is white,” a portion of the letter said, via 9News. “Regardless of what investigators learn or reasons the perpetrator gives, we know this: Our student got up Thursday morning, worked out with his team, then showered, dressed, and went to work. Hours later, he was facing a stranger with a gun and hearing police sirens that had been inexplicably called on him. Given what we have seen happening in cities across this county, we know all too well that this encounter could have proceeded very differently.”

Both Loveland Police and Colorado State University have expressed their concern for the victims’ well-being and indicated that the full range of support services will be made available to help them process the scary incident in the weeks and months to come. Gundmundsen is scheduled to be in court on June 18 and a man who identified himself as the perpetrator’s son has offered an apology while noting his father is “currently undergoing treatment at a mental health facility.”

“Our sincerest thoughts go out to the two salesmen and we apologize to them and their families for the actions of our father and wish them well,” Scott Gundmundsen’s son, Stanley Gundmundsen,  wrote in a message to 9News.

An unidentified Colorado State football player was placed at gunpoint by a 65-year-old man who wrongly accused him of being a member of Antifa, the nebulous far-left movement President Donald Trump has with minimal evidence blamed for inciting violence during recent nationwide protests.

Scott Gudmundsen called police on the Colorado State player and the player’s part-time coworker, then told them to get to the ground and pointed a gun at them, according to a report from 9News.com.

Gundmundsen was arrested and charged with two counts of felony menacing and two counts of false imprisonment.

His son, Stanley Gundmundsen, has since apologized for his father’s actions.

“Our sincerest thoughts go out to the two salesmen,” he told 9News. “We apologize to them and their families for the actions of our father and wish them well.”

Accusations of extremist activity on the right and left have been widespread over the past few weeks as protests against police brutality have in some regions been accompanied by violent sideshows and looting. As tensions ratcheted up, Trump last week blamed Antifa for the clashes and vowed to designate the network, which is considered more shared political idea than centralized organization, a domestic terrorist group. Antifa is short for “anti-fascist.”

The presidential pressure campaign has raised the profile of Antifa and perhaps inspired the president’s base to hunt out possible perpetrators.

Colorado State sent out a letter to its student body Friday night detailing the incident with its football player, writing, “Regardless of what investigators learn or reasons the perpetrator gives, we know this: Our student got up Thursday morning, worked out with his team, then showered, dressed, and went to work. Hours later, he was facing a stranger with a gun and hearing police sirens that had been inexplicably called on him.”

Weekly Pulse: Protests continue in the wake of George Floyd’s death and many professional athletes remain at the forefront of the fight for justice and change.

USA TODAY

A Colorado State football player was held at gunpoint Thursday, and the man accused of doing so was arrested.

The man faces felony charges after calling police and saying there were two men wearing masks near his home. He said he was armed and was going to go confront them, according to 9News.com. The caller said he thought the two were members of the anti-fascist political group Antifa.

Officers responded and found Scott Gudmundsen dressed in fatigues and brandishing a rifle while holding two men on the ground at gunpoint. They arrested him on suspicion of felony menacing and false imprisonment at 6:14 p.m. Thursday in the 2400 block of Dawn Court.

The two men in their 20s were roofing salesmen wearing polo shirts with the logo of their employers and surgical masks going house-to-house following a recent hail storm. Both are in their 20s.

Colorado State sent out an email to its community after the incident on Friday signed by president Joyce McConnell, athletic director Joe Parker and football coach Steve Addazio.

“Our student is a young man of color, while the perpetrator is white. Regardless of what investigators learn or reasons the perpetrator gives, we know this: Our student got up Thursday morning, worked out with his team, then showered, dressed, and went to work,” the letter stated. “Hours later, he was facing a stranger with a gun and hearing police sirens that had been inexplicably called on him. Given what we have seen happening in cities across this county, we know all too well that this encounter could have proceeded very differently.”

The two men were not physically harmed in the incident, nor were they charged by police.

Football players returned to campus this week to begin voluntary workouts at Canvas Stadium.

“This young man is precious to us, contributing to our campus many in many ways: as an athlete, as a leader, and as a thoughtful student,” the letter from Colorado State stated.

Gudmundsen was later released on bond and is scheduled for a first appearance in Larimer County Court at 8:30 a.m. Thursday.

A Washington Redskins player is facing five charges, including illegal discharge of a firearm, following his arrest in a Denver suburb Saturday morning

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. —
A Washington Redskins player is facing five charges, including felony illegal discharge of a firearm, following his arrest in a Denver suburb Saturday morning.

The Douglas County sheriff’s office says deputies arrested 27-year-old Cody Latimer after responding to a report just after midnight of shots fired inside an apartment in Englewood, Colorado.

“We are aware of the situation and have informed the NFL League Office,” a Washington Redskins team spokesman said. “We will continue to gather more information and have no further comment at this time.”

Deputies say they found three individuals in the apartment at the Zenith Meridian Apartments, one with minor injuries unrelated to a gunshot.

Latimer was taken into custody and is also facing charges of second-degree assault, menacing, prohibited use of a weapon and reckless endangerment.

Latimer posted a $25,000 bond and was released later Saturday morning.

Latimer, a wide receiver, joined the Redskins in March after two years with the New York Giants and four years before that with the Denver Broncos.

The sheriff’s office says it is continuing to investigate.
