A Wallace Community College-Selma women’s basketball player was arrested Tuesday night for drug trafficking.

Aaliyah Tyanna Hatcher, 18, was charged with drug trafficking, drug excise tax and accessory after the fact. Hatcher is currently in the Dallas County Jail on a $1.6 million bond.

Dallas County Sheriff Mike Granthum said deputies Scott Rouse and Michael Kiser were on extra patrol and heard complaints of loud music at the 100 block of Alabama Avenue around 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Rouse and Kiser saw a large congregation of people and discovered a suspect in a vehicle with large amounts of marijuana, cash and a scale inside. Hatcher admitted that the marijuana was hers. They arrested Hatcher.

Granthum said the package marijuana and edible marijuana, made from cereal bars and candy, weighed 8.2 pounds.

“She’s young and that’s sad,” Granthum said. “She’s an excellent student and one of the best girl basketball players to come through this area. She comes from a great family. It looked like she was going to sell the marijuana. People selling drugs are a cancer to our society. We’re putting a stop to it.”

Dallas County District Attorney Michael Jackson said Hatcher will arraigned Thursday in the Dallas County Courthouse.

Hatcher was a member of The Selma Times-Journal All Dallas County Girls basketball team last year and just completed her freshman year at WCCS.

RENO COUNTY — A former Hutchinson Community College basketball player charged with distributing marijuana was bound over for trial Wednesday.

Davon Michael Gill is charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute within a thousand feet of a school.

On September 11, police were called to a location on North Severance  in  Hutchinson after report of theft. Upon arrival, officers could smell marijuana coming from a vehicle parked along the street.

Gill was the driver of that vehicle and tried to back out and leave. Officers ordered him to stop. That led to a search warrant on the vehicle where police found 18 small individual bags of marijuana in an Old Spice bag. His vehicle was within 120 feet of Hutchinson High School.

Gill reportedly admitted that marijuana was his, but denies it was to sell. Gill told the officers that he had just purchased it for himself.

The 6-foot-7 Gill was a freshman on the 2016-17 Hutch Blue Dragon basketball team. He is a graduate of Wichita Heights High School.

UPDATE @ 3:25 p.m. (Feb. 9):

Caleb W. Johnson was indicted Friday on two counts of aggravated robbery and single counts of kidnapping and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, according to court records.

A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Update@2:55 p.m. (Feb. 9):

Caleb W. Johnson, 18, the only adult among the group of seven teens accused of robbing the Huber Heights AT&T store, has posted bond and is no longer in jail, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s office. No other details were immediately available.

First report:

The All-Ohio football player from Springfield High School admitted to his role in the robbery of a Huber Heights AT&T store, according to a court paperwork.

Caleb W. Johnson, 18 — the only adult among a group of seven teens charged in the Feb. 1 armed robbery — appeared Monday in the Montgomery County Municipal Court in Huber Heights.

A judge entered a plea of not guilty on Johnson’s behalf and set bond at $50,000 with electronic home detention (EHD) if Johnson makes bail.

A preliminary hearing wasn’t scheduled because the judge said it’s a bypass case that will go to a grand jury for possible felony indictment and placement in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court.

Several of Johnson’s friends and current and/or ex-teammates arrived near the end of the proceedings and prayed outside the courthouse. All of his supporters refused to be interviewed on the record.

Johnson admitted to the armed robbery, according to a complaint and affidavit filed by a detective. Johnson was charged with aggravated robbery, two counts of failure to comply with the order or signal of a police officer and improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle.

Johnson — who attended Trotwood-Madison High School until his senior year — had no juvenile court record in Montgomery County outside of a traffic violation. Johnson, a wide receiver, was to make a recruiting visit to Eastern Kentucky University, according to coach Maurice Douglass.

After the juvenile court hearing on Friday, an aunt of one of the defendants said many of the boys knew each other from playing youth football with the Dayton Flames.

One of Johnson’s co-defendants, a 16-year-old Trotwood boy, was one of multiple juveniles charged in an April 2016 incident in which a car was stolen and drove away from a gas station with the vehicle’s driver clinging on the hood.

Cherity Martin, 23, suffered a broken wrist, various cuts and bruises to her arms and legs and a minor head injury, according to Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office deputies. She had been driving her mother’s Chrysler Sebring when she stopped to buy a soft drink.

The juvenile was 14 when that happened, according to Montgomery County Juvenile Court records and has the longest record of the six facing possible transfers to adult court.

Deputies suspected a group of juveniles were involved in the theft of a car in Moraine. The 2016 incidents resulted in the arrest of six juveniles from 14 to 17 years old for the aggravated robbery at the Valero gas station on Philadelphia Drive in Harrison Twp. and the car theft.

Some of those juveniles also were suspected in an attempted break-in of a Sprint store at The Greene in Beavercreek.

Huber Heights police are speaking with law enforcement in Springfield and Miami Twp. to determine if similar crimes are connected to last week’s Huber Heights AT&T robbery.

The six juvenile suspects face another court hearing Feb. 16.

A pastor is among those rallying behind a Springfield all-state football player who is one of seven teens charged in connection to a robbery at a Huber Heights AT&T store.

“Our community has been devastated by the incident and our job is to show support,” said the Rev. Paul Mitchell of Revival Center Ministries International in Dayton, who said he is is pastor and friend to 18-year-old Caleb Johnson.

Johnson, of Fairborn, is the only adult of the seven teens charged in the Feb. 1 armed robbery. He pleaded not guilty today during his arraignment in Montgomery County Common Pleas Court on two counts of aggravated robbery and one count each of kidnapping and improper handling of a firearm. The judge continued his bond so he can remain out of jail.

Surveillance video captured a group of seven young men wearing masks and carrying guns, some of them automatic rifles, as they burst into the AT&T store in the Northpark Plaza at 8245 Old Troy Pike in Huber Heights. They forced a customer to the ground and ordered workers to open a safe in the back room. Witnesses spotted their getaway cars and police tracked them all down in less than an hour during a manhunt that forced the lockdown of neighboring schools.

“I treat is as these young men deserve a second change, deserve another opportunity. We are not our mistakes. They don’t define us,” said Mitchell, who pointed out that Johnson had never been in trouble before, which police and court records confirm.

The 18-year-old Springfield High School wide receiver attended Trotwood-Madison High School until his senior year.

“We all make mistakes, fall short, need to show mercy and grace, especially in our community,” Mitchell said.

Johnson’s next court appearance is not until the end of the month. The six juveniles will appear Friday in juvenile court, but prosecutors have said it’s possible their cases would be moved to adult court.

LINWOOD, N.J. (WPVI) —

Many people from the quiet town of Linwood, New Jersey are breathing a sigh of relief now that an arrest has been made in the death of April Kauffman.

Kauffman was found murdered inside her home more than five years ago.

“I think it puts the towns head to rest a little bit,” said Linda Mullin, of Linwood. “People can finally move on from it and look back at April and see something positive coming from it.”

No one we spoke with was surprised that the suspect turned out to be her husband, Dr. James Kauffman, but the alleged details left many in the state of disbelief.

Dr. Kauffman is accused of hatching a murder-for-hire plot that ended with his wife’s death.

Investigators said the suspect made a fortune through an illegal drug distribution network.

According to authorities, Dr. Kauffman enlisted the help of Ferdinand Augello, who allegedly was a key player in the drug ring.

Kaufman and Augello then allegedly hired a man named Francis Mulholland to kill April, after April threatened to divorce her husband and expose his illegal enterprise.

“He was intent to have her killed as opposed to losing his financial empire, as he described it to several individuals,” said Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon Tyner.

Tyner said Kauffman and four of the other defendants, Ferdinand Augello, Paul Pagano, Tabitha Chapman and Joseph Mulholland will have their first appearance in court Thursday.

Neighbors said it is hard to believe a physician could allegedly do something so sinister.

“It’s not something you think a professional person like a doctor or a lawyer would do,” said Glen Rothstein of Linwood. “Certainly not something that a professional would want to go down that road.”

Prosecutors said Kauffman’s illegal drug enterprise continued for five years after April’s death.

A police body-cam video captured the scene when he was arrested on drug and weapons charges last June.

Six other people have also since been arrested, and face racketeering charges linked to this case.

“It’s a very sad situation,” said Michelle Hoffman of Linwood. “But it’s just shocking that someone could do something like that.”

The Montgomery County Constable’s Office is holding a press conference Tuesday to discuss the arrest of a softball coach charged with child sexual assault. Watch the livestream now CW39.com.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Texas — A softball coach with more than a decade of experience working with kids in Montgomery County has been arrested and accused of molesting a 14-year-old player. The local constable’s office fears there may be more victims.

Juan “Coach Manny ” Corona is charged with three counts of sexual assault of a child.

The 44-year-old suspect has been teaching the sport for a total of 17 years, with the past 10 years spent coaching in Montgomery County.

Juan Corona, 44, is charged with three counts of child sexual assault.

Investigators said he started giving private softball lessons at the South Montgomery County Softball League on Pruitt Road within the last couple years.

He had been entrusted by parents with picking up the players from school and bringing them to the lessons, during which time, deputies said Corona assaulted the children. To keep his alleged victims silent, officer said Corona told the children something bad would happen to them or threatened to kick them off the team.

In order to preserve the victims’ identities, the constable’s office is withholding details of the assaults.

Corona was booked into the Montgomery County Jail on Jan. 3.

His bond was set at $100,000.

Anyone who may know a possible victim is asked to call the Montgomery County Constable’s Office at 281-364-4211.

Online gamers have said in multiple Twitter posts that the shooting of a man Thursday night by Wichita police was the result of a “swatting” hoax involving two gamers.

RELATED STORIES: Family says son killed by police in ‘swatting’ was unarmed, didn’t play video games | Pivot Point: If shooter games lead to real-life death, it’s time to hit pause

Swatting happened when someone makes a call to a police department with a false story of an ongoing crime – often with killing or hostages involved – in an attempt to draw a large number of police officers to a particular address.

Swatting has gained traction across the country with online gamers. Those who try to cause the swatting incident will use caller ID spoofing or other techniques to disguise their number as being local. Or they call local non-emergency numbers instead of 911, according to 911.gov.

Deputy Wichita Police Chief Troy Livingston said Thursday night that police were looking into whether the call that led to the shooting was a case of swatting.

Livingston said the department received a call that someone had an argument with their mother, that the father had been shot in the head and the shooter was holding his mother, brother and sister hostage.

“That was the information we were working off of,” he said.

Officers went to the 1000 block of McCormick, preparing for a hostage situation and they “got into position,” he said.

“A male came to the front door,” Livingston said. “As he came to the front door, one of our officers discharged his weapon.”

Livingston didn’t say if the man, who was 28, had a weapon when he came to the door, or what caused the officer to shoot the man. Police don’t think the man fired at officers, but the incident is still under investigation, he said. The man, who has not been identified by police, died at a local hospital.

A family member identified that man who was shot by police as Andrew Finch. One of Finch’s cousins said Finch didn’t play video games.

“This call was little peculiar for us,” Livingston said. “(The call) went to a substation first, then it was relayed to dispatch, then dispatch gave it to us. We have a lot of information to go through.”

Related stories from The Wichita Eagle

On Twitter, more than a dozen people who identified themselves as being in the gaming community told The Eagle that a feud between two Call of Duty players sparked one to initiate a “swatting” call.

After news began to spread about what happened Thursday night, the people in the gaming community, through Twitter posts, pointed at two gamers.

“I DIDNT GET ANYONE KILLED BECAUSE I DIDNT DISCHARGE A WEAPON AND BEING A SWAT MEMBER ISNT MY PROFESSION,” said one gamer, who others said made the swatting call. His account was suspended overnight.

According to posts on Twitter, two gamers were arguing when one threatened to target the other with a swatting call. The person who was the target of the swatting gave the other gamer a false address, which sent police to a nearby home instead of his own, according to Twitter posts.

The person who was to be the target of the swatting sent a Tweet saying, “Someone tried to swat me and got an innocent man killed.”

Livingston, the deputy police chief, would only provide the block number of the home where the shooting occurred, not the specific address. Police were seen in the front yards of two houses across from each other at the corner of Seneca and McCormick.

Dexerto, a online news service focused on gaming and the Call of Duty game, reported the argument began over a $1 or $2 wager over the game.

“Normally this is a prank, but due to the high stress situation, sometimes it is closer to a death threat from a user trying to get cops to kill them,” one man told The Eagle in an email.

The officer who fired the shot — a seven-year veteran of the police department — will be placed on administrative paid leave, which is department policy.

Police expect to release more information later Friday.
