North Queensland Cowboys forward Thomas Gilbert is facing three weeks on the sidelines for a crusher tackle on the New Zealand Warriors’ King Vuniyayawa.

In just his second game of first-grade, Gilbert has been charged with grade two dangerous contact to the head or neck.

The base penalty for that charge is 300 points, or three weeks, but worryingly for Gilbert he has 55 carry-over points from a previous incident.

An early guilty plea may have seen him escape with a two-week suspension but the carry-over points means that is highly unlikely unless he fights the grading of the charge.

The incident happened in the 44th minute of the Warriors impressive 37-26 victory over the Cowboys at Central Coast Stadium.

You can watch the incident in the video player below.

Gilbert was one of four players charged by the NRL Match Review committee after two matches on Friday night.

Poasa Faamausili was charged with grade one dangerous contact to the head or neck on Kyle Feldt.

Jack Murchie was also slapped with a grade one dangerous contact charge after an apparent chicken wing on Gilbert in the first-half.

Meanwhile, Parramatta Eels forward Kane Evans was also hit with a grade one dangerous contact charge for a tackle on Penrith’s Liam Martin early in the second-half.

While Faamausili and Murchie should escape suspension with an early guilty plea, Kane Evans could be in trouble due to 25 carry-over points.

Danny Levi was the only player charged on Thursday night but should also be free to play in round six with an early guilty plea.

Round Five Judiciary Charges

Danny Levi (Manly Sea Eagles) – Grade One Dangerous Contact Head/Neck on Matthew Lodge – 100 points (75 early plea)

Poasa Faamausili (New Zealand Warriors) – Grade One Dangerous Contact Head/Neck on Kyle Feldt – 100 points (75 early plea)

Jack Murchie (New Zealand Warriors) – Grade One Dangerous Contact on Thomas Gilbert – 100 points (75 early plea)

Thomas Gilbert (North Queensland Cowboys) – Grade One Dangerous Contact Head/Neck on King Vuniyayawa – 300 points (270 early plea – 20% loading) + 55 carry-over points

Kane Evans (Parramatta Eels) – Grade One Dangerous Contact on Liam Martin – 100 points (90 early plea – 20% loading) + 25 carry-over points

North Queensland Cowboys rugby league player Scott Bolton has been charged with the alleged indecent assault of a woman at Bondi Beach in Sydney overnight.

The NRL confirmed that its Integrity Unit has been made aware of the allegations and that Bolton, 30, has been granted bail to appear in court later this month.

Police said they were called to licenced premises on Campbell Parade about 10:50pm on Saturday after a female patron reported she had been indecently assaulted.

Officers arrested Bolton on Sunday morning at about 9:20am, following an investigation, at Waverley Police Station.

According to the NRL, Bolton has played 215 games for the Cowboys since making his debut in 2007.

He was a member of the club’s 2015 premiership-winning team.

Cowboys Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman recently joined The Musers on KTCK-FM 96.7/AM 1310 The Ticket. Here are some highlights:

What was the main thing that did the Cowboys in this season?

Aikman: “Well… I just think that this year’s not a lot different than most years. I think that there just seems to always be a lot of discussion about this team that has very little to do with what’s happening on the field. I’m a believer that that stuff takes a toll. It goes back to the start of the season.

“With Ezekiel Elliott’s suspension — when was it going to occur? Could they push it into next year? That went on and on and on and on. I think that created some distraction — a bit of doubt for a staff putting together game plans and things of that nature. So I think that was part of it.

“And of course, the whole situation with the commissioner and, you know, there was a number of things that had very little to do with what was happening on the field.

“I don’t think the organization did a very good job of preparing for when the suspension took place.

“You had Darren McFadden on this roster — I’m not sure why. I thought, in the event that there was a suspension — not to say you can’t change your plans. Lots of things come up during a season that you go then in a different direction. I don’t think they were prepared there.

“And then when they went into Atlanta… when they were playing pretty good football — I think they had won three-in-a-row at that time if I’m not mistaken… were doing some good things offensively. They lose Tyron Smith — it’s one thing not to anticipate the problems going into a game, but in-game adjustments in that game were not good and they seemed to never quite recover from that situation. And then they were out of sync.

“They didn’t have any big play ability. It’s hard to score points when you’re not creating big plays, whether it’s in the running game or passing game. And it all kind of snowballed on them. And unfortunately for them, they were playing in a year where it was going to take 10 wins and that’s not typically… not that you don’t anticipate needing 10 wins, but that not having 10 wins would keep you out of the postseason either. It was one of those rare years where it was a pretty competitive conference.”

Updated (01/06/2018): TMZ Sports obtained the autopsy report for Glenn’s fatal crash and reported that it showed Glenn had marijuana in his system and his blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit. Toxicology tests reveal he was impaired with a .165 BAC. Police also found a marijuana grinder and bottle in the crash wreckage. Glenn’s cause of death is listed as an “accident” due to blunt force trauma.

ORIGINAL STORY (11/20/2017)

Updated at 7:45 p.m. to include more details about Glenn’s background.

Former Cowboys receiver Terry Glenn died early Monday after a car crash in Irving.

Glenn was driving on State Highway 114 with a woman when he veered out of his lane and struck a concrete barrier dividing the toll lane and main lanes, Irving police said.

Glenn, 43, was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital, where he died about 12 a.m.

Multiple news outlets identified his passenger as his fiancee. Police said she had minor injuries.

“Terry was someone that we all enjoyed very much in his time with the Cowboys,” team owner Jerry Jones said in a statement. “He was a gentle and kind hearted young man. We are all terribly saddened by this news of his passing. Too young and too soon. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, his loved ones and all of the people who were touched by his life.”

Police were still investigating Monday afternoon what led to the crash.

Glenn had a lengthy history of encounters with authorities, records show.

In 2009, he was arrested on charges of marijuana possession and public intoxication. In 2015, he was cited for driving 78 mph on a 60 mph road, court records show.

More recently, he was on deferred adjudication for a misdemeanor charge of accident involving damage in Denton County. The incident occurred in October 2016. He was arrested in March and was given deferred adjudication after pleading no contest last month, records show.

Also last month, authorities filed a misdemeanor charge of driving while intoxicated charged against Glenn — his second such charge in Denton County, according to court records. His arraignment hearing was scheduled for Monday.

Former Cowboys player Tony Casillas was among the first to spread the news of Glenn’s death Monday morning, tweeting about it and asking for prayers for Glenn’s fiancee.

Glenn played 12 seasons in the NFL and caught 593 passes for 8,823 yards and 44 touchdowns. He spent his first six seasons with the Patriots, going to the Pro Bowl in 1999. He caught Tom Brady’s first career touchdown pass in 2001.

Glenn played in 2002 for the Packers, who traded him to Dallas before the 2003 season.

Glenn played for the Cowboys from 2003 to 2007. He had back-to-back seasons with more than 1,000 yards receiving in 2005 and 2006 after being reunited with former Patriots quarterback Drew Bledsoe, who played his final two seasons for Dallas.

“Loved this man,” Bledsoe tweeted Monday after learning of Glenn’s death. “My son asked me a decade ago who my favorite receiver ever was because he wanted that jersey for Christmas. He got a Terry Glenn jersey from Santa. TG overcame horrible adversity to become a really good man. May your soul rest in peace, my friend.”

Glenn missed the first 15 games of the 2007 season because of arthroscopic knee surgery during the preseason. The Cowboys released Glenn in July 2008 because of health concerns over his right knee.

Glenn persevered as a teenager growing up in Columbus, Ohio. At 13, according to a  Chicago Tribune story, Glenn was told his mother, Donetta, had been beaten to death at 29 years old by a man who had abducted her. That left Glenn and his younger sister, Dorothy, without a parent. Glenn bounced from home to home after his mother’s death. He eventually joined Ohio State’s football team as a walk-on in 1993.

Glenn was a raw talent — he didn’t play organized football until his sophomore year of high school — and only caught 15 passes his first two seasons at Ohio State. But things changed in 1995. Glenn caught 64 passes for 1,411 yards and 17 touchdowns for Ohio State, winning the Biletnikoff Award as the nation’s best collegiate receiver and being named an All-American.

New England drafted him seventh overall in 1996. Glenn caught 90 passes his first season — more than any rookie in NFL history at the time — for 1,132 yards. He’s one of only four players in the Super Bowl era to catch at least 90 passes for at least 1,100 yards as a rookie.
