MIAMI – Miami police detectives said Monday that Jose Trimaine Jose, a 6-foot-3 former University of Central Florida player, was killed in a Friday afternoon shooting in Wynwood.

Jose also played high school football for Booker T. Washington and Miami Central. His aunt Janice Ricketts said the 28-year-old father left behind three children.

“He was an awesome dad because he took responsibility,” Ricketts said. “He was taking care of his kids. He loved his mom. He took care of his mom … He was the sweetest person.”

Jose Jose was a father of three in Miami-Dade County, relatives said.

After Jose was fatally shot in the torso, near the intersection of Northwest 20th Street and North Miami Avenue, there was a massive manhunt in an area of Miami’s Wynwood-Overtown boundary.

According to Officer Kiara Delva, a spokeswoman for the Miami Police Department, officers arrested Lynwood Walker III, for his role in the shooting. Walker, 27, had fled to another state, but detectives caught up to him and are bringing him back to Miami-Dade County, Delva said.

Walker, who has a “Death Before Dishonor” tattoo on his forehead and is known as local rapper Tankhead666, had a pending domestic violence case in Miami-Dade County court. He was arrested Nov. 25 for battery by strangulation, false imprisonment and assault.

Prosecutors haven’t filed charges against Walker in the Wynwood shooting.

Jose also had a criminal record. In 2010, the talented offensive guard had a promising future with a long list of scholarship offers that included the University of Miami. Jose signed with UCF. Records show he lost his way.

When Jose was arrested on aggravated assault and concealed weapons charges in 2010 in Miami-Dade County, the Key Knights football recruit was released from the scholarship. Jose worked hard to redeem himself as a cornerback and defensive tackle before his UCF coach dismissed him over disciplinary issues.

Jose appeared in nine games during his UCF sophomore season in 2011 and eight games during his junior season in 2012 before leaving the team.

Jose faced marijuana-related charges in Orange and Miami-Dade counties in 2016 and 2017. He had become known in the local rap scene as Fat Papi Escobar, and that same year, he released his IgNaRich album.

A witness at Kush, a popular gastropub in Wynwood, said he heard a loud argument that escalated into a shooting on Friday. After the shooting, witnesses told police officers there were two men bleeding on the ground. Miami Fire Rescue took them to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center where doctors pronounced Jose dead.

Detectives haven’t identified the other victim of the shooting. They are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.

Former All-Pro running back Chris Johnson has been linked to a murder-for-hire plot that resulted in the deaths of two men in 2016, TMZ Sports reported Thursday.

TMZ said Johnson hasn’t been charged but is suspected of paying “a noted Florida gang member” to kill two men whom he believed shot at him and a friend in 2015.

“There’s no validity to any of these accusations,” a representative for Johnson told TMZ.

In March 2015, Johnson was a passenger in a Jeep traveling in Orlando, Florida, and was shot in the right shoulder in a drive-by shooting. The driver, Johnson’s friend, was shot in the head and died.

At the time, police said they believed the Jeep was targeted. Now, according to the TMZ report, court documents say “intelligence gathered suggested [the shooting] was a gang related murder attempt on Chris Johnson”.

The men suspected in the Orlando incident were shot dead in 2016 – one in January and one in June.

TMZ said that in exchange for killing the suspected shooters, Johnson paid the alleged gang leader, Dominic Bolden, by giving him “funds and an individual” who could help him form a drug trafficking organization.

Johnson, 34, last played in the NFL in 2017.

The Tennessee Titans made Johnson, an East Carolina product, the 24th overall selection in the 2008 NFL Draft. In his second season with the Titans, he led the NFL with 2,006 rushing yards and was named First Team All-Pro.

He spent six seasons in Tennessee, gaining at 1,000 yards each year, but never achieved those numbers again. He signed a free-agent deal with the New York Jets in 2014, gaining 663 yards. He ended his career with the Arizona Cardinals, rushing for 1,023 yards in 19 games over three seasons (2015-17).

Johnson gained 9,651 yards on the ground and scored 55 touchdowns in his career. He added 2,255 receiving yards and nine scores.

A fatal rollover wreck in the early morning of Dec. 29 on Puma Paw Ranch Road north of Rifle left two people dead, and the driver of the vehicle is in custody on charges including drunken driving and vehicular homicide.

Trent Johnson, 41, the father of standout Glenwood Springs High School volleyball player Baylee Johnson, was killed in the wreck just after midnight on the 29th along with Matthew Smith, 36, of Rifle.

Johnson’s 10-year-old son, Rylan Johnson, was also seriously injured in the crash and flown to Denver for treatment. He was expected to be released today or Wednesday, according to those close to the family.

The driver of the vehicle, Cody Christopher, 40, was also taken to Grand River Hospital in Rifle with minor injuries. Johnson and Smith were both pronounced dead at the scene, Garfield County Coroner Robert Glassmire said.

Meanwhile, Christopher, is currently listed in custody at the Garfield County Jail on charges of vehicular homicide and assault, DUI and other charges stemming from the accident. He was due in court for an advisement hearing Tuesday afternoon.

The Johnsons, along with the two family friends, were headed out on a hunting trip when the crash occurred on the private ranch road located off of Garfield County Road 219, northwest of Rifle Gap Reservoir. Johnson and the other passenger and were ejected from the vehicle.

None of the occupants in the SUV were wearing seat belts, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

Traveling in a 2003 Ford SUV, the vehicle went over an embankment while traveling north on the ranch road and rolled nearly two full turns, ejecting both Johnson and Smith.

Following the loss of Trent, the Johnson family is in need of some help to cover medical expenses. Glenwood Springs head volleyball coach Kehau Rust has created a Go Fund Me page to help support the Johnsons. The goal of the Go Fund Me page is to raise $7,000. Currently, more than $3,100 has poured in via donations since the page was created Monday evening.

A Gofundme page in honour of East Fremantle father Charles McCarthy has attracted heartfelt tributes and more than $45,000 in donations from across Australia and his native Ireland.

The page was created by Alan Ahern who wrote that Mr McCarthy was “one-of-a-kind” and that the lives of wife Nicole and young children Clara and Niall had “changed forever” following his death two days before Christmas.

Mr Ahern said his mate’s “quick laugh lit up every room” and that he adored, and was adored by, his children.

“A wonderful husband, an incredible father, and the most loyal friend you could ask for,” Mr Ahern’s tribute reads.

“He is irreplaceable and will be forever missed.”

The fundraising page smashed its $30,000 goal in fewer than 24 hours with more than 440 people donating and sharing their memories of the 32-year-old Irish migrant, who is originally from Cork.

In messages from around the globe Mr McCarthy was described as a kind and loving soul taken far too young.

“You were a true gent. Life is so cruel. May you rest in peace Charlie,” wrote Yvonne Foley.

Mr McCarthy was allegedly struck in the head with “an object” by fisherman Andrew Doan while walking along Riverside Drive with his wife and a friend in the early hours of December 23.

He spent three days at Royal Perth Hospital, brother Daniel and sister Siobhan travelling to Perth to be by his side when the life support machine was switched off on Boxing Day.

Mr Doan maintains his innocence and his lawyer has indicated in court the 34-year-old would argue he had been “charged” by Mr McCarthy and that his actions on the night were in self-defence.

Back in Mr McCarthy’s hometown, the Aghada Gaelic Athletic Association has opened a book of condolences for its former player.

Club secretary Darren Lee said on Facebook those associated with the club were deeply saddened by Mr McCarthy’s death.

“Charlie joined us in his teenage years and had a positive impact with his energy, dedication and attitude throughout his time in the club,” said Mr Lee.

“On moving to Australia, he continued to wear the club colours with pride and celebrated club successes like so many at home and abroad.

“What is clear from listening to those who knew him best was that the dedication and energy we experienced on the pitch, was small compared to his dedication for his wife Nicole and their children Ciara and Niall.”

Money raised by the GoFundMe page will be used to cover unexpected expenses, with the remainder set aside in a trust for Mr McCarthy’s children.
