  • KZN Transport MEC Bheki Ntuli is appalled to hear that alcohol was allegedly involved in a horror crash in Jozini in which eight died.
  • A 48-year-old truck driver will face charges of drunk driving and culpable homicide.
  • Ntuli was alarmed by the increase of car crashes on the road in the province since 1 June.

KwaZulu-Natal Transport MEC Bheki Ntuli says he is appalled after hearing that the driver of a truck involved in a horror crash in Jozini, in which eight people died and 32 were injured, was allegedly intoxicated.

The driver is to be charged with drunk driving and culpable homicide.

Paramedic reports on Wednesday indicated the truck driver had apparently lost control of the truck, crashing into pedestrians and at least nine vehicles.

Police have now confirmed that the 48-year-old man had traces of alcohol in his blood.

“A 48-year-old suspect is due to appear tomorrow (Friday) in the Ubombo Magistrate’s Court on charges of drunken driving and culpable homicide”, police spokesperson Captain Nqobile Gwala said.

On Wednesday, Ntuli visited the accident scene where police briefed him and he examined the crash wreckage as part of a fact-finding mission into what transpired.

“I was appalled when I learnt that the truck driver is suspected to have been driving under the influence of alcohol, which could be the cause of this ghastly accident that resulted in eight fatalities,” said Ntuli.

“Alcohol has contributed immensely to bad driver behaviour which leads to traffic violations, road crashes and the increasing road death toll”.

“The blatant disregard for the rules of the road is to blame for the deaths of many breadwinners on our roads, which is a huge cost to the economy”, added Ntuli.

He was also alarmed by the increase of car crashes and fatalities on the road in the province since the country moved to Alert Level 3 of the national lockdown, aimed at containing the spread of Covid-19.

Ntuli expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and wished those in hospital a speedy recovery.

HOUSTON (AP) — Buffalo Bills defensive lineman Ed Oliver was arrested Saturday by police in the Houston area and charged with drunk driving and illegally carrying a gun.

Montgomery County sheriff’s deputies pulled Oliver over after receiving reports around 9 p.m. of someone driving recklessly in a construction area north of the city, local media outlets reported, citing jail and police records and statements from sheriff’s officials.

The deputies found an open beer and a pistol in Oliver’s truck, according to sheriff’s officials.

Video published by the Montgomery County Police Reporter appears to show officers examining Oliver’s eyes and having him walk in a line on the roadside before putting him in handcuffs.

Oliver is from Houston, where he also played his college career. He was selected by the Buffalo Bills in the first round of the 2019 draft. Montgomery County records did not list Oliver as being in the jail Sunday morning.

The team said in a statement that “we are aware of the situation and we are gathering more information.”

Oliver’s agent did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Just three years ago, Darren McFadden was running the football for the Dallas Cowboys. Now, he’s trying to run from the cops. In a bizarre, recently unearthed arrest video, McFadden is shown resisting arrest and driving his car into a Whataburger wall while drunk. The officers pulled the former running back out of his car and even had to use a Taser on him.

Darren McFadden was arrested for DUI and resisting arrest in 2019

In January of 2019, McFadden was arrested at a Texas Whataburger. The former Cowboy and Raider was found unresponsive in the driver’s seat of his 2019 GMC Yukon late at night, and officers were forced to break in the windows to wake McFadden.

The 31-year-old at the time accidentally pressed on the gas and veered his car into a wall in the drive-thru of the Whataburger. Police were finally able to wake McFadden and get him out of the car safely before anyone was hurt.

In July of 2019, Mcfadden was charged with resisting arrest and DUI with a BAC of greater than or equal to .15. Emphasis on the greater than. McFadden didn’t even realize he was flooring a vehicle into the side of a restaurant until cops busted in his windows. Even then, he could barely speak as the officers ordered him out of the car.

McFadden pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four days in jail in February of 2020.

Crazy arrest video shows the police standoff with Darren McFadden

McFadden’s arrest occurred over a year ago in McKinney, Texas, but the police body camera footage was just released by TMZ Sports Monday. If the description of the arrest wasn’t crazy enough, the video surely is.

The video starts with officers approaching McFadden’s car and tapping on his window. He’s seen asleep at the wheel in the middle of a Whataburger drive-thru, and he isn’t responding to the officers on the scene.

The officers notice that the car is still in drive, so they attempt to shake the car to wake McFadden. After a few minutes, McFadden accidentally presses the gas and floors the car into the wall of the restaurant. You can hear the tires screeching in the video as the car can’t move any farther.

The cop closest to McFadden breaks in one of the car windows and finally wakes the former NFL star. He eventually stumbles out of the car and falls to the ground as officers handcuff him. The incident could’ve been much worse if the wall didn’t stop the car from moving or if McFadden continued to resist arrest at gunpoint.

McFadden earned $50 million in the NFL but now has a criminal record

Many NFL players do great things in retirement, but some choose a different path. As successful as McFadden was in the NFL, many fans will now remember him for this scary video.

McFadden played 10 years in the NFL. He recorded two 1,000-yard rushing seasons — one with the Raiders and one with the Cowboys. Over his professional career, McFadden earned $49.3 million in salary alone.

However, no amount of athletic success can shield you from the law. McFadden will forever be a convicted criminal, just as much as he will forever be a 1,000-yard rusher in the NFL.

(NEW YORK) — NBA player Chandler Parsons was in a potentially career-ending car accident, reportedly involving a driver who was under the influence, according to the law firm Morgan & Morgan.Chandler, who is a small forward with the Atlanta Hawks, was reportedly driving home from practice around 2 p.m. on Jan. 15 when his vehicle was struck. Parsons, according to his attorneys, “suffered multiple severe and permanent injuries including a traumatic brain injury, disc herniation and a torn labrum.”Parsons’ attorneys, John Morgan and Nick Panagakis, said his injuries could potentially end his nine-year NBA career.”Chandler is having a difficult time accepting the consequence of the defendant’s reckless conduct on the roadway,” his lawyers said in a statement to ABC News. The alleged suspect was not identified by the firm, but it said the driver was arrested and charged with a DUI. The driver who allegedly hit Parsons was unconscious at the wheel when police arrived, according to USA Today, citing an incident report. A 7-Up bottle filled with alcohol was reportedly found in the driver’s seat, the outlet reported. The Hawks, in a statement on the day of the incident, said Parsons was involved in an accident after practice. The team said he was diagnosed with a concussion and whiplash and that he would enter the NBA’s concussion protocol. They announced Monday he was out of their next game with “concussion/whiplash/associated disc injury.”The team has not disclosed any further details about his injuries or the crash.”Chandler was in peak physical condition at the time of the wreck,” Parsons’ legal team said in a statement. “He is now working with a team of doctors to regain his health, and at this time, his ability to return to play is unclear. Our focus right now is on helping him make a full recovery, while we also work to hold any and all responsible parties fully accountable.”Parsons is on the last year of a four-year, $94 million contract. He was traded from the Memphis Grizzlies to the Hawks prior to the start of the 2019-2020 NBA season. The forward was selected by the Houston Rockets in the first round of the 2011 NBA Draft. He has also played for the Dallas Mavericks. In college, Parsons was named an NCAA All-American while playing for the Florida Gators. Copyright © 2020, ABC Audio. All rights reserved.
