UConn freshman basketball player James Bouknight faces several charges after police say he ran from an officer following a crash on campus.

Police say Bouknight was driving a car that struck a street sign while speeding on Sept. 27. Police say Bouknight told responding officers he didn’t have identification with him and later ran off.

Police say Bouknight has since provided them with a statement admitting his actions.

He has been charged with evading responsibility, interfering with a police officer, traveling too fast for conditions and operation of a motor vehicle without a license.

He’s scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 29.

The guard issued a statement to apologize and called his actions irresponsible.

UConn coach Dan Hurley says there will be consequences both “within the structure of the team as well as on the outside.”

Western Bulldogs vice-captain Lachie Hunter is at the centre of an alleged drink-driving incident, with police claiming he fled the scene of a car accident while intoxicated.

Hunter is set to be charged over the alleged incident, where he is accused of hitting four parked cars while more than two times over the legal blood alcohol limit.

Police say they arrived just before 9pm on Thursday night to the Middle Park scene, in inner Melbourne, where an SUV owned by Hunter appeared to have crashed into four other cars.

Authorities claim the 24-year-old was not at the scene when they arrived but was located at a property in South Yarra a short time later, where he was breath-tested.

“Prahran Highway Patrol were called to Middle Park Thursday evening following reports a car had crashed into a number of parked cars,” Victoria Police said in a statement.

“The crash occurred on Wright Street where it’s believed a Toyota SUV crashed into four unoccupied parked cars about 8.45pm.

“When police arrived, it was found the driver had left the scene.

“Attending police made follow up enquiries and located the 25-year-old driver at an address in South Yarra.

“The Middle Park man was given a preliminary breath test and a subsequent evidentiary breath test, where he furnished a reading of 0.123.”

“The man’s licence was immediately suspended for 12 months and it is expected will be charged on summons with drink driving and other traffic matters.

“Whilst committing the offences the man was found to be in breach of the directions issued by the Chief Health Officer, and he was issued a $1652 penalty notice.

“The directions by the Chief Health Officer, under the State of Emergency declared in Victoria, have been enacted to help stop the spread of Coronavirus.”

The player’s car was towed from the scene with at least one other car, however, no one was reportedly injured in the alleged incident.

Hunter was recently promoted to vice-captain at the end of last year under the Bulldogs’ new skipper Marcus Bontempelli.

Eddie McGuire makes stunning player ‘mutiny’ claims

Eddie McGuire has warned clubs face a ‘mutiny’ if senior players don’t want to get on board with a radical ‘hub’ plan to restart the 2020 AFL season.

Creating hubs, where teams are separated into three groups and isolated in different states to limit their exposure to COVID-19, is one of the scenarios the league is considering as it plots a way out of the financially-crippling shutdown.

However McGuire says clubs would face a mutiny if players didn’t all agree to support the controversial plan.

Speaking on Footy Classified on Wednesday night, the Collingwood boss was asked what might happen if senior players said they didn’t want the hubs plan to go ahead.

“I would think that would cause an absolute mutiny in a football club,” McGuire said.

“There’s a lot of players who aren’t getting paid $750,000 that need to eat and there’s a lot of people out there at the moment who would do anything for a job.

“I think that would be really bad — and I don’t think it will get to that because everyone’s trying to work through what’s going to be the best situation.”

McGuire said Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury has approached him and expressed support for the plan.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) – A West Virginia University football player is facing three misdemeanor charges following his arrest late last month. Jovani Haskins, a redshirt junior tight end, was arrested after a police chase in Morgantown.

On July 28th, 2019 officers with WVU Police observed a white Audi A4 driving at a high speed and almost hitting another vehicle in the turning lane on University Avenue and Campus Avenue, according to a criminal complaint.

After police signaled for the Audi to stop by turning on their cruiser’s emergency lights and siren, it continued to speed and cross the center line multiple times, police said. Another cruiser also noticed the Audi on University Avenue, according to the complaint.

The Audi then got stuck in traffic and had to turn down Ensign Avenue, where its driver parked in the Metro Towers parking area and ran off, according to the complaint.

Police said they were able to cross-reference the vehicle’s registration through WVU Parking, which showed the Audi had citations under the name of Jovanni Hoskins, 21, of Bergenfield, New Jersey.

Hoskins matched the fleeing suspect’s description, and while conducting a tow inventory, police found his WVU student identification card in the vehicle, according to the complaint.

Hoskins is charged with obstructing/fleeing, reckless driving and left of center.

Hoskins, who transferred from the University of Miami, is expected to have an increased role in the WVU offense this season, following the graduation of tight end Trevon Wesco, who was drafted by the New York Jets.

WVU head football coach Neal Brown issued the following statement on the situation:

“We are aware of the situation, and it will be handled appropriately and in accordance with West Virginia University’s policies and procedures surrounding student conduct.”
