Felony charges are possible in wake of the incident in a Loveland neighborhood. A victim was a CSU football player.

LOVELAND, Colo. — A Loveland man faces felony charges after allegedly concluding that two men going door-to-door in his neighborhood were members of the protest movement known as antifa – and then ordering them to the ground and holding them at gunpoint, 9Wants to Know has learned.

The incident unfolded after the man called police, said there were two men wearing masks near his home, and announced he was armed and going to go confront them, Loveland Police Lt. Bob Shaffer confirmed to 9Wants to Know.

When officers arrived in the 2400 block of Dawn Court around 6 p.m. Thursday, they encountered Scott Gudmundsen (pictured) – dressed in fatigues and holding two men on the ground at gunpoint, Shaffer said.

But the men weren’t troublemakers – they work for a local roofing company and were wearing blue polo shirts with the firm’s name on them, shorts, tennis shoes and white surgical-style masks, Shaffer said.

One of them is a Colorado State University football player who is 20 years old and works part-time at the roofing company. The student is a “man of color,” according to a statement from the university.

The other man is 27 and an employee of the roofing company, 9Wants to Know has learned. 9NEWS is not identifying them at this point because they were described by police as victims of a crime.

“They were canvassing the neighborhood because of the recent hail storms,” Shaffer told 9Wants to Know.

There was no evidence that either of the men did anything wrong.

“Nothing at all,” Shaffer said.

At the scene, police arrested Gudmundsen, 65, who lives around the corner from where police encountered him.

Gudmundsen was armed with two weapons, Shaffer told 9Wants to Know: A Glock pistol, and a second Glock pistol that had been converted into a longer weapon that looked like a carbine rifle.

Police seized both guns as evidence, Shaffer said.

The incident unfolded in a southwest Loveland neighborhood a few blocks west of Thompson Valley High School.

Shaffer said that Gudmundsen called police, said there were two “antifa guys” in the neighborhood and that, “I am going out there to confront them.” Gudmundsen told police in the call he was armed and wearing tactical gear, Shaffer said.

A second person also called police around the same time and said a man in fatigues was holding two people on the ground at gunpoint in the street.

President Trump has suggested that antifa agitators have been responsible for recent demonstrations across the country calling for greater police accountability in use-of-force incidents.

According to Larimer County Jail records, Gudmundsen was booked at 6:14 p.m. Thursday on suspicion of two counts of felony menacing and two counts of false imprisonment.

He is scheduled to be in court June 18. A man who said he was his son, Stanley Gudmundsen, emailed 9NEWS and said his father is ill and currently undergoing treatment at a mental health facility.

“Our sincerest thoughts go out to the two salesmen and we apologize to them and their families for the actions of our father and wish them well,” he wrote.

As for the two men Scott Gudmundsen is accused of confronting, police called victim advocates to the scene to assist them.

“They were pretty rattled – both of them were,” Shaffer told 9Wants to Know.

In a statement issued Friday night, Chris Tulp, the CEO of Premier Roofing Company — where the two victims work — said he is hopeful the perpetrator “is punished to the fullest extent of the law.”

“I have spoken to both teammates and they are understandably shaken,” Tulp’s statement reads. “I want to respect their space. With that said, we intend to stand up for the members of our team who are hard-working, honest, charitable, good people. We are proud of them and deeply saddened that they were subjected to this horrific incident and will stick-with and support them in any way necessary to ensure justice is served.”

CSU sent the following letter to students on Friday night:

Last night in the course of performing duties associated with his summer job in Loveland, a CSU football student-athlete was threatened with a gun, forced to the ground, and held there—along with his co-worker—against his will. The perpetrator called the police to the scene; when they arrived, they quickly evaluated the situation and arrested the perpetrator.

Our student is a young man of color, while the perpetrator is white. Regardless of what investigators learn or reasons the perpetrator gives, we know this: Our student got up Thursday morning, worked out with his team, then showered, dressed, and went to work. Hours later, he was facing a stranger with a gun and hearing police sirens that had been inexplicably called on him. Given what we have seen happening in cities across this county, we know all too well that this encounter could have proceeded very differently.

Our students are all precious to us. This young man is precious to us, contributing to our campus community in many ways: as an athlete, as a leader, and as a thoughtful student. He is also precious to his family, to his friends and teammates, and to the many, many people out there in this world whose lives he has not yet touched but someday will. He is too precious to lose to hate and ignorance, as are all the people of color who bring their talents, their voices, their anger and anguish and hope and determination to CSU.

We have been in touch with this student and his family and can reassure our community that both the student and his co-worker are physically unharmed and safe. Mentally and emotionally, the student and his family are drawing on tremendous reserves of resilience, but nonetheless recognize that this was a horrific experience. CSU Athletics, the Division of Student Affairs, and the Office of the President are working together to ensure that the student has all the resources he needs, both now and in the months to come.

As a university and as a community, CSU is avowedly anti-racist and anti-violence. We are appalled at this expression of violence and hate visited upon one of our students. We condemn racism in all its forms and expressions and are working to build an equitable, anti-racist community that can be a model for others.

The Loveland man accused of holding two roof insurance salesmen at gunpoint because he thought they were members of an anti-facist group is now being treated at a behavioral health facility in Fort Collins, a defense attorney said Thursday.

Scott Gudmundsen, 65, has been formally charged with two counts of felony menacing, two counts of prohibited use of a firearm, two counts of false imprisonment and one count of impersonating a police officer.

Police say Gudmundsen held two roof inspection salesmen at gunpoint and knelt on the neck of one of the men — who was later identified by Colorado State University as a football player and person of color — because he thought they were members of antifa.

Gudmundsen’s first court appearance was scheduled for Thursday morning, but he did not appear because he is being treated at UCHealth Mountain Crest Behavioral Health Facility — which is where he has been since posting his $500 bond Friday, defense attorney Joseph Gavaldon told the court Thursday.

Gavaldon has not been retained by Gudmundsen, he told 8th Judicial District Judge Michelle Brinegar on Thursday, and he has also not met with Gudmundsen. Gavaldon said he was not prepared to discuss the case and only wanted to ask Brinegar not issue a warrant for Gudmundsen’s arrest because he didn’t appear in court.

Brinegar did not immediately issue a warrant Thursday, but set a new court date in one week to check on the status of Gudmundsen’s treatment at the behavioral health facility.

“If he’s been released from Mountain Crest, he needs to appear,” Brinegar told Gavaldon.

Gavaldon said he did not know when Gudmundsen might be released from the facility.

Deputy District Attorney Michael Mangione also told the judge that law enforcement is aware of potential mental health issues in this case and they are continuing to investigate.

About 50 protesters gathered outside the Larimer County Justice Center Thursday morning during Gudmundsen’s hearing, many with signs saying “Black lives matter” and messages calling for justice.

Gudmundsen reportedly thought the two salesmen were members of antifa when he held them at gunpoint and told them to get on the ground or he’d shoot them, according to arrest documents.

The men were wearing surgical masks and polo shirts with the logo of their employer, and they had clipboards and pamphlets next to them on the ground, police said. They had also identified themselves to Gudmundsen the day before when they went to his house, the men told police.

Gudmundsen, reportedly armed with two loaded pistols, a tactical vest and additional loaded magazines, allegedly knelt on the neck of the CSU football player and held a gun to his back, telling him “he was not going to kill him, the police would,” according to arrest documents.

About 140 CSU football players, coaches and administrators held a rally and a march at Old Town Square on Wednesday to show support for their teammate.

Gudmundsen’s next court appearance is scheduled for June 25 where the judge will check-in on Gudmundsen’s status with the behavioral health facility.

A 20-year old Colorado State football player was going door-to-door at his part-time roofing job in Loveland, Colorado, when he was ordered to the ground at gunpoint by a 65-year old resident in the neighborhood.  Loveland Police told 9News.com there is no evidence that the player, or his 27-year old co-worker, did anything wrong when Scott Gudmundsen called police and said there were two “Antifa guys” in neighborhood that he was going out to “confront” them.

When police arrived, Gundmundsen was dressed in fatigues and holding the two roofing company employees on the ground at gunpoint.

Gundmundsen was arrested and charged with two counts of felony menacing and two counts of false imprisonment.

Police have not made the names of the victims public, nor has Colorado State confirmed the identity of the football player. A letter was sent to CSU students on Friday night to address the incident, signed by Colorado State President Joyce McConnell, athletic director Joe Parker and football coach Steve Addazio.

“Our student is a young man of color, while the perpetrator is white,” a portion of the letter said, via 9News. “Regardless of what investigators learn or reasons the perpetrator gives, we know this: Our student got up Thursday morning, worked out with his team, then showered, dressed, and went to work. Hours later, he was facing a stranger with a gun and hearing police sirens that had been inexplicably called on him. Given what we have seen happening in cities across this county, we know all too well that this encounter could have proceeded very differently.”

Both Loveland Police and Colorado State University have expressed their concern for the victims’ well-being and indicated that the full range of support services will be made available to help them process the scary incident in the weeks and months to come. Gundmundsen is scheduled to be in court on June 18 and a man who identified himself as the perpetrator’s son has offered an apology while noting his father is “currently undergoing treatment at a mental health facility.”

“Our sincerest thoughts go out to the two salesmen and we apologize to them and their families for the actions of our father and wish them well,” Scott Gundmundsen’s son, Stanley Gundmundsen,  wrote in a message to 9News.

An unidentified Colorado State football player was placed at gunpoint by a 65-year-old man who wrongly accused him of being a member of Antifa, the nebulous far-left movement President Donald Trump has with minimal evidence blamed for inciting violence during recent nationwide protests.

Scott Gudmundsen called police on the Colorado State player and the player’s part-time coworker, then told them to get to the ground and pointed a gun at them, according to a report from 9News.com.

Gundmundsen was arrested and charged with two counts of felony menacing and two counts of false imprisonment.

His son, Stanley Gundmundsen, has since apologized for his father’s actions.

“Our sincerest thoughts go out to the two salesmen,” he told 9News. “We apologize to them and their families for the actions of our father and wish them well.”

Accusations of extremist activity on the right and left have been widespread over the past few weeks as protests against police brutality have in some regions been accompanied by violent sideshows and looting. As tensions ratcheted up, Trump last week blamed Antifa for the clashes and vowed to designate the network, which is considered more shared political idea than centralized organization, a domestic terrorist group. Antifa is short for “anti-fascist.”

The presidential pressure campaign has raised the profile of Antifa and perhaps inspired the president’s base to hunt out possible perpetrators.

Colorado State sent out a letter to its student body Friday night detailing the incident with its football player, writing, “Regardless of what investigators learn or reasons the perpetrator gives, we know this: Our student got up Thursday morning, worked out with his team, then showered, dressed, and went to work. Hours later, he was facing a stranger with a gun and hearing police sirens that had been inexplicably called on him.”

Weekly Pulse: Protests continue in the wake of George Floyd’s death and many professional athletes remain at the forefront of the fight for justice and change.

USA TODAY

A Colorado State football player was held at gunpoint Thursday, and the man accused of doing so was arrested.

The man faces felony charges after calling police and saying there were two men wearing masks near his home. He said he was armed and was going to go confront them, according to 9News.com. The caller said he thought the two were members of the anti-fascist political group Antifa.

Officers responded and found Scott Gudmundsen dressed in fatigues and brandishing a rifle while holding two men on the ground at gunpoint. They arrested him on suspicion of felony menacing and false imprisonment at 6:14 p.m. Thursday in the 2400 block of Dawn Court.

The two men in their 20s were roofing salesmen wearing polo shirts with the logo of their employers and surgical masks going house-to-house following a recent hail storm. Both are in their 20s.

Colorado State sent out an email to its community after the incident on Friday signed by president Joyce McConnell, athletic director Joe Parker and football coach Steve Addazio.

Given what we have seen happening in cities across this county, we know all too well that this encounter could have proceeded very differently.”

The two men were not physically harmed in the incident, nor were they charged by police.

Football players returned to campus this week to begin voluntary workouts at Canvas Stadium.

“This young man is precious to us, contributing to our campus many in many ways: as an athlete, as a leader, and as a thoughtful student,” the letter from Colorado State stated.

Gudmundsen was later released on bond and is scheduled for a first appearance in Larimer County Court at 8:30 a.m. Thursday.

HOUSTON – A former MLB player is charged with felony assault for choking his ex-girlfriend at an apartment complex in Upper Kirby, according to court documents.

The woman told police that Carl Crawford, 38, held her at gunpoint while grabbing her by the head and neck on May 8. Crawford is also the owner of Houston record label 1501 Certified Entertainment.

The day prior to the assault, the victim told police that Crawford texted her about meeting at her apartment to talk. The woman said that she and Crawford had been in a romantic relationship for 2.5 years before it ended in February. They also have a child together.

When he arrived the next day, she said he revealed he was carrying a semi-automatic handgun.

The woman said Crawford unloaded the clip and ejected a round of the pistol and began walking toward her holding the firearm, according to court documents. She said she could tell that Crawford was upset and claims he told her that he was going to give her “one last time” to tell the truth or he was going to hurt her.

The woman said she went to open the door to leave when he pushed her down on the ground in the hallway.

The victim told police Crawford held the gun in one hand and use the other hand to grab her by the head and neck while asking her how long had she been talking to a male acquaintance, according to court documents. She said she had only known the male for one week.

The woman said Crawford called her a liar and slammed her head against the wall several times, according to court documents. She said Crawford continued to interrogate her while he applied pressure to her neck and throat making it difficult for her to breathe.

Eventually, she said she couldn’t breathe at all, and “everything began to get blurry and dark,” per the court documents.

The woman told investigators she “felt like she was about to pass out and she felt if she were to be clocked any longer that she would be hurt pretty bad.”

Crawford didn’t stop attacking the woman until their 1-year-old daughter walked up the victim told police. She said he then moved towards the child, which allowed her to leave the apartment and run to the leasing management office, from where the police were called.

Crawford fled the scene but left a gun behind, which was recovered by responding patrol officers, according to the court documents.

Investigators also discovered harassing text messages sent to the victim from Crawford.

One read: “Nah, that wasn’t a beating u just mad I made u confess.”

Crawford also sent a message that he was paying someone to give him the male’s address.

His bond was set at $10,000 which he paid and left custody. He appeared in PC Court at 8 p.m. Thursday.

About two weeks after the alleged incident, a woman and a five-year-old child drowned at a home owned by Crawford in an unrelated incident. According to media reports, Crawford was holding a small gathering at the time of the incident.

The woman who drowned is not the same one from the assault allegations.

Crawford spent 15 years in the MLB with the Tampa Bay Rays, Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers. He retired in 2016 after the Dodgers released him her his contract.

AUSTIN, Texas – Details have surfaced of an incident in April involving former Texas Longhorns star and current Baltimore Ravens safety Earl Thomas and his wife, Nina Thomas.

According to Travis County court documents obtained by KSAT-12, Nina Thomas was arrested on April 13 in Austin after she confronted Earl Thomas with a gun and pointed the weapon at his head.

The arrest affidavit stated that Nina Thomas confronted Earl at a rental home because she suspected him of cheating on her.

Nina and two other women broke into the home and found Earl and his brother Seth Thomas in separate rooms, each with a woman, documents showed.

At one point, Nina had the loaded gun less than a foot away from her husband’s head, according to the affidavit.

Earl Thomas managed to wrestle the gun away from Nina and police were called.

Officers arrived around 3:41 a.m. and found Nina Thomas chasing Earl with a knife.

According to the document, Nina Thomas told police her intent was just to “scare” her husband, but she did not realize there was a round in the chamber even though she had taken the magazine out of the gun.

Nina Thomas was charged with first-degree felony burglary of a residence with intent to commit aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to the affidavit.

The other two women with Nina Thomas were arrested for burglary of a residence.

Earl Thomas was not arrested for the incident. The 7-time Pro Bowl player posted a since-deleted video on Instagram Wednesday saying he was notified the story was about to come out and he wanted to get ahead of the report.

The story was initially published by TMZ.

“It’s not really anybody’s business. It pisses me off that it got out, but it’s the world we live in today. But instead of talking about us, just keep us in your prayers. Stuff like this happens,” Thomas said in the deleted video. “We try to live the best lives we possibly can, but sometimes that doesn’t go as planned. Just pray for us as we go though this.”

Thomas added he is speaking with Nina and seeing his children.

Thomas played at Texas from 2007 to 2009 and was drafted in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks.

Baltimore, his current team, has not announced whether any disciplinary action would be taken against Thomas.

Baltimore Ravens safety Earl Thomas took to IG to announce that he’ll join TMZ to discuss an altercation that occurred between himself and his wife, Nina.

Shortly after Thomas posted the message, TMZ published a report that detailed the situation. According to police reports, Earl left their home after getting into an argument with Nina and was picked up but his brother, Seth. Later in the day, Nina checked into Earl’s Snapchat and saw that he was with another woman. She was also able to find out his location, an Airbnb rental in Austin, Texas. Once she pinpointed where Earl was at, she took his 9mm Berreta and called up two women to accompany her to confront her husband. Nina said she brought the gun to “scare him.”

When they arrived at the Airbnb, they “discovered Earl and Seth naked in bed with other women.”

Nina admits that she then pointed the gun at her husband’s head, thinking “she took out the magazine thinking that the gun could not fire.” Police later found out that there was a bullet in the chamber. Footage that was shot by one of the women that accompanied Nina was reviewed by cops, who said that the gun was “less than a foot away” from Earl’s head. They added, “it can clearly be seen that Nina’s finger was on the trigger and the safety is disengaged.”

Police say that Earl was able to get the gun away from Nina, who was later arrested. She was charged with burglary of a residence with intent to commit aggravated assault with a deadly weapon but was freed on bond, TMZ reports. The two other women were also arrested. The Ravens player told cops that his wife struck him multiple times as he attempted to get the gun away from her. A woman that was at the house with Earl and his brother Seth alleged that Nina threatened her and the others with the gun and told them that she had “something for all you hoes.”

Thomas didn’t provide his side of the story but will presumably get into it all during his interview with the publication. “Obviously this is not how I wanted my birthday breakfast to start out or my birthday but it is what it is,” Thomas, who’s turning 32 on Thursday, May 7, wrote of the April 13 incident.

“I just wanted to get ahead of it,” Thomas said in a video that accompanied the post. “I mean, it’s really not anybody’s business. It pisses me off that it got out, but it’s the world we live in today. But instead of talking about us, just keep us in y’all prayers. Stuff like this happens, bro. We try to live the best life we possibly can but sometimes it don’t go as planned. Just pray for us as we go through this stuff. We’ve been talking. I’m seeing my kids, so just keep us in your prayers.”
