MAPLE HEIGHTS, Ohio — A 39-year-old Maple Heights middle school basketball coach is accused of punching a 14-year-old East Cleveland basketball player during a break in the game Jan. 16.

Robert Clark, who is a fourth and fifth grade teacher at Barack Obama Elementary School, is charged with assault and was placed on paid administrative leave in the incident that happened about 6:30 p.m. at Heritage Middle School in East Cleveland, according to court records and Maple Heights City Schools Superintendent Dr. Charles T. Keenan.

The school is currently conducting its own investigation into the incident, but Clark will remain on leave until the case is resolved through the courts, Keenan said.

Clark punched an East Cleveland basketball player in the face while he encouraged his team to fight the opposing team, police and Keenan said.

Court records say Clark was scheduled to appear in East Cleveland Municipal Court Thursday afternoon, but officials did not return a call seeking comment.

A University of Incarnate Word football player was arrested Thursday by Alamo Heights police after a bar fight that was caught on camera, officials said.

Police said Jamarkese Williams, 22, was seen on video punching a customer in the face up to 7 times on Saurday night at the 50/50 Bar. It’s unclear what led up to the alleged fight.

According to the affidavit, another customer tried to intervene and “attempted to reason” with Williams.

Williams punched that man up to three times, police said.

The second man suffered a fractured jaw, according to the affidavit.

Police identified Williams using the video, but UIW Athletic Director Brian Wickstorm also called police and told them Williams told him he was involved in the fight, according to the affidavit.

Williams, who also runs track for the school, is a senior majoring in criminal justice according to his bio.

He plays cornerback for the Cardinal football team and appeared in 10 games this season.

Williams is charged with assault causing bodily injury, a class-A misdemeanor. A judge set his bail at $1,600.
