The post Timberwolves Forward Josh Okogie: ‘The People Want All The Officers Arrested’ After George Floyd’s Death first appeared on Bad Sporters.

Officer Derek Chauvin was arrested Friday and charged with 3rd-degree murder and manslaughter in the death of George Floyd, but the people of Minnesota aren’t satisfied, according to Timberwolves forward Josh Okogie.

“I think the people, they want everybody to be arrested, all the officers,” Okogie, a second-year forward out of Georgia Tech, said Friday by phone from Minneapolis. “Even watching the video, all of the officers were negligent and none of the officers acted accordingly.

“I’ve spoken to a lot of officers that I’ve known in this area and they definitely didn’t follow protocol. Neither did they handle the situation properly or act in a way that was humane.”

Okogie was among several Timberwolves, including former No. 1 pick Karl-Anthony Towns, who attended a press conference and rally led by former NBA player Stephen Jackson on Friday in Minneapolis.

“My reason for going there and supporting it was obviously I just wanted to join forces with a guy like Stephen Jackson who obviously is mourning at a time like this but also to create awareness of this situation and just kind of be the voice of a lot of people of this city whose voice may be soft-spoken,” Okogie said.

Jackson was close friends with Floyd and considered him a brother. He, too, wants to see all four officers punished for Floyd’s death.

“We’re going to use our platform,” Jackson said at the press conference. “I’m going to use everything I have to get a conviction, to get all these motherf—ers in jail.”

As Floyd was videotaped saying, “Please, I can’t breathe,” Chauvin held his left knee on Floyd’s neck for 8 minutes, 46 seconds — 2 minutes, 53 seconds of which occurred after Floyd was non-responsive.

According to reports, there had been 18 complaints against Chauvin during his 19-year career.

As of Friday evening, the other three officers had been fired but not yet charged.

Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said he anticipated more charges to come, possibly against some of the other three officers.

“The investigation is ongoing,” Freeman said. “We felt it was appropriate to focus on the most dangerous perpetrator. This case has moved with extraordinary speed.”

Floyd’s death on Monday sparked protests and riots across the country, with parts of Minneapolis and St. Paul burning as a result on Thursday night.

“It’s crazy,” Okogie said. “I mean people are definitely speaking up about their frustration, their cry is kind of evident. And there’s a lot of protesting, a. lot of rioting and stuff out here.”

Okogie isn’t sure if the Timberwolves (19-45) will play another game this season, or if they will wear a patch in Floyd’s honor when they play again, but said the team supports the cause going forward.

“They are 100 percent on our side and we have their 100 percent support, anything that we’re doing,” Okogie said. “I know that they’re all for it.”

Latrell Mitchell and Josh Addo-Carr have both been charged with firearms offences following their controversial weekend camp.

NSW Police confirmed on Tuesday afternoon that the duo had been charged and will face court in August, after Addo-Carr uploaded videos of him shooting a gun on social media.

Police will allege Mitchell gave a firearm to a person not authorised to use it, and he has now had his licence suspended and a number of guns seized by police.

The pair were both fined $1,000 by NSW Police on Monday for breaking social-distancing laws after a weekend gathering at a property near Taree.

They issued an apology, with Mitchell admitting the Kangaroos stars had “slipped up”.

The NRL issued the pair with $20,000 fines, with another $30,000 suspended, but neither will miss a game after getting one-match suspended bans.

Photos posted by Addo-Carr showed the pair with 10 other men around a fire, prompting the NRL to label the pictures as disappointing and unacceptable.

He was also seen shooting a gun and riding a dirt bike without a helmet, while NRL-contracted Newcastle fringe player Tyronne Roberts-Davis is seen in one of the photos.

“Police have been told a group of more than 10 men were at a gathering on a rural property near Taree on Saturday 25 April, in contravention of current ministerial directions,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“Following extensive inquiries, three men – two aged 22 and one aged 24 – have been issued with $1,000 [fines] for failing to comply with a ministerial direction. The 24-year-old had previously received a warning for breaching the Public Health Act.”

The fine also came on the same day the league further pushed its claim for a return, discussing its strict biosecurity rules with clubs on Monday afternoon. But Mitchell insisted they did not mean to flout rules imposed by the federal and state governments to stem the coronavirus pandemic.

“I have been up here with my family for four or five weeks practising social distancing,” Mitchell said in a video. “It was a little bit of a slip up. Foxy [Addo-Carr] reached out, his cousins are going through a bit of stuff up in Sydney.

“He just wanted to get up to the bush and make sure they were getting cultured and connected again. That was the whole part of the concept of what the weekend was.

“I wasn’t here to break any rules or hurt anyone. We’re not being selfish, I couldn’t turn down the brothers in a time of need. On behalf of Foxy and all my mob, we do want to apologise.”

A repentant Addo-Carr said “nothing was intentional or deliberate” as he tried to “put a smile on the faces” of family members going through a tough time. But under NSW guidelines people can only leave the house for work, essential shopping, exercise, medical appointments and compassionate visits.

All NRL players also agreed to health and safety protocols when the competition was stopped for the shutdown.

“On face value, the image in today’s media is both disappointing and an unacceptable breach of health orders,” the NRL said in a statement. “The NRL will be speaking to the players involved to seek further information and we will ensure the players provide any assistance authorities require.

“Our players are role models and we expect them to lead by example during this pandemic.”

The drama could not have come at a worse time for the NRL as it attempts to convince the government it can safely resume its season on 28 May, ahead of other major codes.

Proposed NRL biosecurity rules for the season resumption will make players stay home – with no visitors allowed – except when training, playing, making visits to the doctor and doing essential food shopping.

The NRL has threatened teams with the loss of points and heavy fines if any player breaks the rules, and say they will further educate players before next week’s planned resumption of training.

However Australia’s chief medical officer Brendan Murphy said the actions of the pair would not influence any government decision.

The former baseball player is accused of assaulting one of his children in September 2019.

A Tarrant County grand jury has indicted former Texas Rangers player Josh Hamilton on a felony injury to a child charge.

Hamilton, 38, is accused of hitting and scratching his daughter in a September 2019 incident.

During the assault, he told his daughter to tell a judge “what a terrible dad I am” so that she would never have to go to his house again, according to Keller police records.

Hamilton has three children but court records show he is accused of assaulting his oldest.

When interviewed by Child Protective Services, his daughter told the interviewer that Hamilton started to assault and throw things at her after she made a comment that upset him, records show.

The former baseball player is accused of throwing a full water bottle that hit his daughter in the chest. Hamilton then pulled a chair from under his daughter and threw it at her, a warrant says.

Hamilton then allegedly took his daughter to a room, pinned her to a bed and repeatedly hit her on the back and legs, according to an arrest warrant.

Police records show Hamilton is 6-feet-4-inches and weighs 250 pounds.

Tarrant County court records show after the incident, Hamilton’s ex-wife, Katie Hamilton, filed for a temporary restraining order against him on behalf of her daughter.

NRL players Latrell Mitchell and Josh Addo-Carr have been hit with firearms charges after a weekend getaway with about 10 men.

Key points:

  • The NRL players have been accused of “putting the game and community at risk”
  • Mitchell and Addo-Carr have been charged with firearm offences
  • Pictures emerged of Cleary with a group of people at his home

Photos and videos posted to Melbourne star Addo-Carr’s Instagram account showed a group huddled around a camp fire at Mitchell’s property on the NSW Mid-North Coast.

There were also photographs showing a group of men, including the players, shooting guns and riding dirt bikes at South West Rocks.

Newcastle’s Tyronne Roberts-Davis was not in the photos around the camp but was sprung in another image posted of the group dirt biking.

South Sydney star Mitchell attended Taree Police Station today after being charged with giving a firearm to a person not authorised by licence/permit.

His firearms licence was suspended, and a number of guns were seized by police.

Addo-Carr has been charged with the unauthorised use of a firearm.

Both men will appear at Taree Local Court on Tuesday, August 4.

Videos on Instagram appeared to show the group breaching health restrictions.

It comes after NSW Police confirmed yesterday they had fined Mitchell, Addo-Carr and Roberts-Davis $1,000 for the getaway.

The NRL today issued four players with breach notices for “bringing the game into disrepute” by flouting social distancing laws amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Mitchell and Addo-Carr have each been handed $50,000 fines, with 60 per cent of that suspended until the end of the season.

Stay up-to-date on the coronavirus outbreak

Roberts-Davis has been issued with a $10,000 fine, with 60 per cent of that suspended.

In an unrelated matter, Penrith player Nathan Cleary was also fined $10,000 after photographs surfaced of Cleary with a group of people on Anzac Day.

Each player has been handed a one-game ban, however that is also suspended.

The players now have five days to respond to the breach notices.

Australian Rugby League Commission Chairman Peter V’landys said the players were “putting the game and the community at risk by their actions”.

“It’s certainly hard to accept such behaviour when the game is doing everything it can to persuade the community that its players are responsible and behave appropriately,” he said.

NSW Police has said it is looking into photographs which appear to show Cleary violating social-distancing rules on the weekend.

What the experts are saying about coronavirus:

Social media photos have emerged of him in close contact with a group of several women, reportedly taken at his home on Saturday.

“Police are aware of the images and are investigating,” a NSW Police spokeswoman said.

In an Instagram video posted on Monday afternoon, Addo-Carr said that he was “really sorry from the bottom of my heart” and said the getaway was the result of family members “going through a really tough time”.

In a separate video, Mitchell also apologised and said the incident had been “a little bit of a slip-up”.

“We’re not here to break any rules or hurt anyone, we’re not being selfish [but] I couldn’t turn down the brothers in their time of need,” Mitchell said.

Former Texas Rangers star and 2010 American League MVP Josh Hamilton was indicted on a felony charge for injury to a minor on Monday, reports Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Hamilton turned himself in to police and was arrested in October for hitting and scratching his daughter.

Jozelyn Escobedo of ABC 8 WFAA reports that Hamilton told his daughter to tell the judge “what a terrible dad I am” to ensure she would never have to visit his home again. Here is more from Escobedo:

When interviewed by Child Protective Services, his daughter told the interviewer that Hamilton started to assault and throw things at her after she made a comment that upset him, records show.

The former baseball player is accused of throwing a full water bottle that hit his daughter in the chest. Hamilton then pulled a chair from under his daughter and threw it at her, a warrant says.

Hamilton has three children and court records show he is accused of assaulting the oldest. His ex-wife, Katie, has filed for a temporary restraining order on her daughter’s behalf.

Hamilton, 38, hasn’t appeared in the majors since 2015. In addition to the Rangers, he played for the Cincinnati Reds and Los Angeles Angels over parts of a nine-season career. The No. 1 pick in 1999 draft, Hamilton’s career was delayed and at times overshadowed by substance abuse and addiction issues — including at least one reported relapse back in 2015.

During Hamilton’s career, he hit .290/.349/.516 (129 OPS+) with 200 home runs and 50 steals. He made five All-Star Games, won three Silver Sluggers, and was the 2010 Most Valuable Player.

NRL player Josh Reynolds has been charged by police over an alleged domestic violence incident.

Police say a woman attended St George Police Station yesterday to report an alleged assault.

The 29-year-old suffered bruising to her right arm and left leg after allegedly being assaulted by Wests Tigers star Reynolds in September.

Police say Reynolds, 30, handed himself into police last night, where he was arrested.

He was later charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm (DV) and granted bail.

The NRL and Wests Tigers have both confirmed the five eighth plans to vigorously defend the charge.

In a statement, the NRL said both Reynolds and the club had been in communication with the competition’s Integrity Unit regarding the matter.

“The NRL takes any allegation of violence or disrespect towards women extremely seriously,” the NRL said.

“The Integrity Unit is seeking further information from NSW Police before determining any immediate action.”

Reynolds has spent the past two seasons with Wests Tigers after seven years with the Bulldogs.

The NRL and Wests Tigers both said they would be making no further comment.

Reynolds is due to appear at Sutherland Local Court next Wednesday.

Troubled former professional football player Joshua Boden, who briefly played with the B.C. Lions, has again been charged with assault.

New Westminster police say the 31-year-old New Westminster resident was arrested on Wednesday after an assault investigation.

On Sunday, police received a report of a domestic dispute that occurred between a man and a woman.

Police say Boden was not there when the officers arrived. He was later located on 6th Street and arrested.

Boden has been charged with two counts of assault, one count of failure to comply with conditions of recognizance, one count of dangerous driving, and one count of driving while prohibited.

Boden remains in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on May 16.

Two years ago, Boden was charged with assault in connection with an incident that took place on March 13 in Surrey and involved a female complainant.

He was released on $1,500 bail but was later charged again for breaching an undertaking or recognizance.

Boden was given a practice roster position as a receiver with the B.C. Lions before the 2006 season, but he was cut in the spring of 2008, shortly after he was charged with assault, theft and mischief in connection with an incident involving his ex-girlfriend.

Boden also briefly played for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

He has also previously faced firearms offences, as well as sexual assault, break-and-enter, assault, uttering threats, possessing a controlled substance, procuring, living on the avails of prostitution, aiding a person to engage in prostitution and criminal harassment.

He was also the subject of a rare public warning issued by Vancouver police, who believed he posed a safety risk to the community.

Josh King is still facing sexual assault charges but also attempting to resume his college football career with a pair of former Michigan State teammates.

The defensive end signed a national letter of intent to play at Coahoma Community College in Mississippi, joining Donnie Corley and Demetric Vance, whose signings with Coahoma were reported in January.

All three, who are facing sexual assault charges in Ingham County, were announced last week as members of Coahoma’s 2018 signing class.

Ex-MSU players Donnie Corley, Demetric Vance get judge’s approval to pursue JUCO

Corley and Vance, through their lawyers, had stipulations to modify their bonds in order to attend Coahoma approved by Ingham County Circuit Court Judge Rosemarie E. Aquilina in January. Both must report in person for all future court proceedings.

Online court records do not indicate any bond modifications made for King and an Ingham County Court employee said there are no recent updates to his court file.

Neither King’s lawyer, Shannon Smith, nor Coahoma coach Steven Miller immediately returned messages from MLive.com.

King, Corley and Vance face third-degree criminal sexual conduct charges, punishable by up to 15 years in prison, related to an alleged incident in January 2017. King is also charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct, punishable by up to life in prison, and a charge of capturing or distributing an image of an unclothed person.

All three were suspended from the Michigan State football team in February 2017, dismissed from the program in June after they were formally charged and then expelled from university after the conclusion of a Title IX investigation.

King, Corley and Vance have a pre-trial conference scheduled for Feb. 21 in Ingham County Circuit Court.

King, a 6-foot-6, 267-pound former four-star recruit from Hinsdale South High School in Darien, Ill., was the highest-rated member of Michigan State’s 2016 class, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. As a true freshman, he appeared in nine games (two starts) and made 10 tackles, including 1.5 for a loss.

Coahoma is a member of the Mississippi Association of Community & Junior Colleges and finished with a 2-7 record last season.
