A linebacker for Eastern Kentucky University was arrested on Tuesday in Ohio after he body slammed a police officer who was trying to put him in handcuffs. Michael Harris, a redshirt sophomore and Auburn transfer, faces felony assault charges and misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct while intoxicated, obstructing official business and resisting arrest.

Video from a Grove City, Ohio police cruiser, which was first obtained by 10TV WBNS, shows Harris putting his hands up as officers confront him. He then puts on his hood and tries to enter his stopped car, but before he can enter an officer shoves him against his car and tries to hold him while Harris is bent over at the waist. Harris then lifts the officer up in the air and falls to the ground on top of him seconds later. A third officer arrives to get the player off of the body-slammed cop, and put Harris in handcuffs.

Court records state that Harris was intoxicated and did not know where he was or know anyone in the area, according to officer statements. Sources for 10TV told the station that cops were originally called because there was “an aggressive man who did not work there and wouldn’t leave” a business.

Harris spent two seasons at Auburn before transferring to Eastern Kentucky. He totaled four tackles and one force fumble in his two years playing for the Tigers. Harris’ arraignment was scheduled for Wednesday.

A University of Kentucky football player who was dismissed from the program last month had more than $95,000 in cash and 52 grams of cocaine inside his apartment at the time of his arrest, according to court records.

Marcus Walker, a 21-year-old junior safety, was arrested May 24 and was dismissed from the team five days later. He pleaded not guilty to charges of trafficking marijuana and cocaine.

His roommate, Tavon Wells, 23, was also charged with the same crimes.

A search of their apartment following their arrests led police to $70,312 in a bag by a closet and another $25,000 in a top-floor bedroom. Walker also had $430 in his pockets. Police said all of the cash belonged to Walker.

More than 52 grams of cocaine was found by police in a clear plastic baggie in a kitchen cabinet, according to court records. It’s unknown to whom the cocaine belonged.

Marijuana was also found in several places — in a water heater closet, backpack, kitchen counter and under a bed. The total amount was 5 pounds. Some of the marijuana belonged to Walker, court records show.

His arrest citation initially said he was trafficking in about 5 pounds of marijuana and 4 grams of cocaine. But new search warrant documents revealed more details about the drugs and cash found in the townhouse as well as the fight that led to their discovery.

An AR-15 rifle belonging to Wells was found inside the residence. Police said they also found digital scales, packaging material, a food processor and a money counter during the search, according to court records.

Police were dispatched to the Unity Drive townhome just after 11 p.m. on May 23 in response to a report of a disorder, according to court records. The disorder involved a male and a female and dispatchers could hear the female yelling at the male and saying she had been hit by him, police said. Police who arrived on the scene observed broken glass lying outside of the unit.

Walker answered the door and said Wells and his girlfriend were in an argument and had just left the home, according to court records. Walker said the girlfriend, Justice Keishae Young, broke the window. Police received consent from Walker to enter the home to ensure no one needed medical assistance, the records said.

“Inside the door, the living room was in a state of disarray with all the furniture and television strew across the floor along with marijuana, cash and blood,” police said, according to court records.

Police said they did not find any victims during their search but continued to find drugs, including three clear bags “approximately the size of a soccer ball full of marijuana.”

Walker was arrested outside of his residence, where more marijuana was found lying on the ground. Wells was arrested later.

A day after his arrest, Walker was released from the Fayette County Jail on a $1,000 surety bond.

Wells has previously been arrested on marijuana trafficking charges and probation violations. It was Walker’s first arrest.

Walker was competing for playing time this season in a crowded secondary that returns starters and backups at nearly every position. He played in 21 games during his UK career with 17 tackles, and saw action in 12 of Kentucky’s 13 games last year, mostly on special teams.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – A news report shows former Kentucky defensive back Marcus Walker had almost $100,000 in cash when he was arrested in May.

SEC Country reports Walker had a combined $95,000 in cash after police searched his home.

Walker was charged with trafficking marijuana and cocaine, along with a paraphernalia charge Thursday. Walker’s arrest citation says he was possessing an estimated five pounds of marijuana and an ounce of cocaine. Police also found a large amount of cash and a cash counter when executing a search warrant.

Walker pleaded not guilty to the charges in court.

Coach Mark Stoops dismissed Walker from the team days after his arrest.

Walker has seen limited playing time as a Wildcat. He played in 12 games during the 2017 season, making five tackles.

He was a three-star safety out of high school from Lake Wales, Florida.

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The University of Kentucky student who allegedly accompanied a Kentucky basketball player to a party while armed with a gun is no longer enrolled in classes, a university spokesperson told Courier Journal.

Aaron Steele, 20, was scheduled to appear in court Thursday for arraignment on a misdemeanor assault charge after police said he struck a woman and threw her against a wall earlier this month. The hearing was delayed until March 23, and Steele’s attorney, Abe Mashni who appeared on his client’s behalf, was instructed to tell Steele to have no contact with the alleged victim.

Police observed “several bruises” on the victim’s arms and the victim complained of “pain over her whole body,” according to a police report

Steele remained a UK student after the school investigated whether he was armed at a party in January, Mashni told Courier Journal earlier this month.

Steele allegedly accompanied Kentucky basketball player Tai Wynyard, who has been suspended indefinitely from all team activities. Kentucky basketball coach John Calipari declined to provide details of Wynyard’s suspension following a Wildcats’ game earlier this month. Wynyard was previously ruled out for the season due to a back injury.

“He violated team rules,” Calipari said Feb. 6. “He has — the back. He is out because of a back, but he’s now been suspended because of violating team rules, and that’s all I’ll say.”

UK basketball spokesman Eric Lindsey has declined to comment on whether the suspension is related to the allegations.

The Kentucky Interfraternity Council met with fraternity and sorority presidents in January after Steele was said to be “protecting” Wynyard at a party, and sorority members used a group messaging app to warn each other and identify him.

The Group Me message circulated by sorority members in January stated: “there is a guy named Aaron Steel (sic) showing up to parties with the basketball player Tai Wynyard. He showed up last night to our rush party and … had a gun … said he was ‘protecting’ Wynyard. … If you go out tonight and see him DO NOT APPROACH HIM. Share this to EVERY SISTER.”

Following the report, Steele used his Twitter account to provide his side of the story, tweeting: “I was the alleged ‘bodyguard.’ Dean of students ruled my carrying gun was lawful under open carry laws and didn’t violate school policy.”

The tweet was deleted, and another tweet was sent later that said: “Do NOT believe what you see in the media. It is fake news. Any and all questions can be referred to my attorney…”

Steele provided contact information for Mashni, a Lexington-based attorney, when contacted by Courier Journal.

“My client is not a bodyguard, for Tai Wynyard or anyone else,” Mashni told Courier Journal in an email. “He’s a student and a kid. It’s important to remember we are talking about eighteen and nineteen-year-old kids. This issue was investigated by the University of Kentucky and no violations of student conduct were found. No criminal charges were filed. This is a non-story. We ask that you respect his privacy while he continues to work toward a degree.”

Citing student privacy laws, the University of Kentucky, through spokesman Jay Blanton, would not confirm the investigation took place.

UK, again citing student privacy laws, would not comment about Steele’s specific assault charges when contacted last week about potential disciplinary measures taken against students who are arrested for such crimes.

“In terms of the range of disciplinary measures, there is not one approach — or one set of measures — that apply,” Blanton said. “Each case is different. Each involves different circumstances and they are adjudicated with that in mind. The same is true for the path of a disciplinary proceeding. Some of it depends upon what the victim-survivor or accused does in terms of where they report and what path he or she wants to pursue.”

LEXINGTON, Ky. — The University of Kentucky student who allegedly accompanied a UK basketball player to a party while armed with a gun was arrested Sunday.

Aaron Steele, 20, was booked in the Lexington Fayette County Jail and charged with fourth-degree assault, dating violence with minor injury, a misdemeanor. Steele remained in jail Sunday night waiting for a judge to set bond.

A police report from the incident had not been released Sunday night. It was not known if the arrest was related to the previous allegations involving Steele, and a police spokeswoman said she could not yet release details.

“We can’t give out the probable cause at this time,” Lexington police Lt. Jackie Newman said. “It was considered dating violence, so it was likely related to someone he was dating or was with. That’s all the information we have at this time.”

UK previously investigated whether Steele was armed at a party in January, an attorney representing the student told Courier Journal last week. Steele was allegedly accompanying Kentucky basketball player Tai Wynyard, who has been suspended indefinitely from all team activities. Team spokesperson Eric Lindsey would not confirm if the suspension was related to that allegation.

No criminal charges were filed in January, and UK spokesman Jay Blanton would not confirm the school’s investigation, citing “federal privacy laws that protect student confidentiality … we can’t comment on a specific case.”

The Kentucky Interfraternity Council met with fraternity and sorority presidents after Steele allegedly attended the party while armed and “protecting” Wynyard, and sorority members, used a group messaging app to warn each other and identify him.

He showed up last night to our rush party and … had a gun … said he was ‘protecting’ Wynyard. … If you go out tonight and see him DO NOT APPROACH HIM. Share this to EVERY SISTER.”

Attorney Abe Mashni, who is representing Steele, said the university found no wrongdoing in its investigation into the allegations.
