Georgia defensive lineman Devonte Wyatt was arrested Tuesday on a charge of criminal trespass/damage to property/family violence, according to a police report from the University of Georgia Police Department.

According to the report, officers were called to McWhorter Hall on campus around 3:12 p.m. in response to a female and a male fighting. Officers spotted people matching the description of those who were fighting, walking outside. One of those identified was Wyatt, according to the police report.

Officers later stopped Wyatt as he was walking through the dormitory’s lobby.

Police said the female left Wyatt’s room in Vandiver Hall and went back to her room inside of McWhorter Hall. Authorities then reported, Wyatt kicked in the female’s door “multiple times from the hallway, damaging the door and forcing it open.”

A warrant for Wyatt’s arrest was issued at 4:40 p.m. on Monday, and the Athens-Clarke County booking reported indicates it was served at 11:35 p.m. on Tuesday.

Georgia football coach Kirby Smart issued the following statement Wednesday morning in regards to Wyatt’s arrest:

“I’m disappointed in the misconduct that is outlined in the incident report,” Smart said. ” This is not indicative of the behavior we expect from our student-athletes who represent the University of Georgia and our football program. We will address it internally in the appropriate way.”

The football team will soon begin to prepare for the annual G-Day spring scrimmage, scheduled for April 18.

The Bulldogs kickoff the regular season in Atlanta at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on September 7 against the Virginia Cavaliers.

Ryan Leaf, the former Washington State quarterback and No. 2 overall NFL draft pick who recovered from substance abuse problems to carve out a career in sports broadcasting, was reportedly arrested Friday in Palm Springs, California, on a misdemeanor domestic battery charge according to TMZ.

According to a booking report filed by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, Leaf was charged with domestic battery of a spouse, former spouse, fiancee, dating partner, or co-parent and was arrested by the Palm Desert Police Department around 2 p.m. Leaf was then booked into jail at 3:32 p.m., according to the report.

Bail for Leaf was set at at $5,000. He was still in custody when this story was posted and no further details about what may have led to the reported dispute are available. Leaf is set to appear in court at 8 a.m. Wednesday.

The 44-year-old has been engaged to Anna Kleinsorge, a former Georgetown volleyball player, since 2017. She gave birth to their first child, McGyver, in October 2017. Leaf was formerly married to Nicole Lucia, at the time a cheerleader for the San Diego Chargers – the team that made Leaf the No. 2 pick of the NFL draft in 1998 – but the two separated in 2003 and later filed for divorce.

On Thursday, Leaf posted a video of his son running in circles in their house, along with a caption that read, “Come on…this is one cute kiddo, loving this time with my family. Look what we made @bannanazon #loveyou.” The Twitter handle, @bannanazon, is linked to an account for Leaf’s fiancee, Kleinsorge.

A native of Great Falls, Leaf has spent the past two years working as a college football color analyst. He worked multiple WSU games for the Pac-12 Network before inking a deal with the ESPN networks last July. Leaf and broadcast partner Clay Matvick were on the call for the Cougars’ most recent game, a 31-21 loss to Air Force in the Cheez-It Bowl at Chase Field in Phoenix.

Last year, Leaf was also inducted into the WSU Athletics Hall of Fame as part of the 2019 class, and was celebrated on the field during the Cougars’ Sept. 7 game against Northern Colorado.

Leaf’s career in the NFL lasted just five seasons. The former Heisman Trophy finalist is widely considered one of professional football’s biggest disappointments, especially in relation to where he was picked in the 1998 draft, just one spot after Indianapolis Colts great and future Hall of Famer Peyton Manning.

Seven years after his NFL career ended, after Leaf made just 21 starts with the San Diego Chargers and Dallas Cowboys, he encountered legal trouble and was indicted on burglary and controlled-substance charges in Texas. Three years later, Leaf was in Great Falls when he was arrested on burglary, theft and drug charges, then arrested less than a week later on similar charges.

Leaf’s situation worsened when he was found guilty of “behavior that violated conditions of his drug treatment placement” and subsequently accused of threatening a program staff member at his rehabilitation center. In May 2014, Leaf was incarcerated in Shelby, Montana, and four months later was sentenced to five years, although he was released seven months later.

Since his release, Leaf has managed to curb his substance abuse problems and used his platform to speak to various groups about the severity of drug addiction. In addition to his work in sports media – Leaf co-hosts a Pac-12 radio show on Sirius XM – the former QB has served as a program ambassador for Transcend Recovery Community, a group of sober living houses in cities across the country.

Leaf delivered a speech at a HOF ceremony in Spokane the night before he was celebrated in front of tens of thousands of fans at Martin Stadium, telling the crowd, “I can only expect there were many years when the athlete maybe deserved to be here, but the man didn’t live up to it. And that’s why I think it’s so much more special today. I’m so glad I’m sober to appreciate what you guys have given me.

“Over the last 21 years since I left Washington State, for a long time I didn’t represent the crimson and gray very well. And because my name was recognized and talked about all the time when I messed up, you guys were drug down into the mud with it, and you didn’t deserve it. It’s an opportunity for me to apologize to all of you for having been that person for so long.”

Former Washington State and NFL quarterback Ryan Leaf was arrested Friday in Palm Springs, California, according to jail records.

Leaf, 44, was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor domestic battery by the Palm Desert Police Department at 1:59 p.m. Friday, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s office jail records. Leaf is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday and is being held on $5,000 bail.

Leaf played for the Cougars from 1995-97 and led them to the 1998 Rose Bowl, their first appearance in the game in 67 years. He was selected with the second overall pick in the 1998 NFL draft by the San Diego Chargers.

The former quarterback has had a history of substance-abuse and legal troubles. In 2014, Leaf was sentenced to five years for breaking into a home in Montana to steal prescription drugs, and for violating a probation. He was arrested twice in 2012 and charged with burglary and theft of prescription drugs.

Leaf has been engaged to Anna Kleinsorge, a former Georgetown volleyball player, since 2017. Kleinsorge gave birth to their first child, McGyver, in October of 2017. Leaf was formerly married to Nicole Lucia, at the time a cheerleader for the San Diego Chargers – but the two separated in 2003 and later filed for divorce.

Leaf has been open about his road to sobriety since and was hired by ESPN as a college football analyst in 2019.

Former NHL player Matthew Barnaby, who played for seven teams across 14 seasons, was arrested Thursday morning by Nashville police on charges of alleged assault and public intoxication, records show.

According to a police report obtained by WGRZ Buffalo, Barnaby was involved in an altercation with his girlfriend and others at Nashville Crossroads bar downtown. A bouncer told police Barnaby choked him.

Nashville police booked Barnaby into jail just after 1 a.m. and he was released around 9:30 a.m., his total bond charges amounting to $6,000. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 27, per records.

Matthew Barnaby shown on June 23, 2005.

Barnaby took to Twitter Thursday afternoon, stating that he “will be vindicated very soon” and a “full statement would be coming soon.”

Barnaby entered the NHL with the Buffalo Sabres in 1992-93 and spent six seasons with the team before playing for six more organizations over the next eight years. He led the NHL in penalty minutes twice (1995-96, 2000-01) and finished with 2,562 over 834 games. He played until 2006-07.

ESPN hired Barnaby after his playing career to serve as a hockey analyst, a role he fulfilled for four years until the network fired him a day after he was charged with a DWI in 2011, which came after his ex-wife dropped five misdemeanor charges against him earlier that year.

Four students at De La Salle Collegiate high school were formally charged Monday with misdemeanor assault and battery following a renewed investigation by police and prosecutors into alleged hazing involving players on the football team.

Arraigned by video link between the 37th District Court and the Warren Police Department lockup were: Michael Anthony Young, 18, and 17-year-old Galiko Tyreese Lovelace, both of Sterling Heights; Ricky Dwayne Pearson, 18, of Eastpointe; and Sean Vanard Bonery, 18, of Warren. Not-guilty pleas were entered on their behalf by Judge Matthew Sabaugh, who permitted them to be released on personal recognizance bonds pending upcoming pre-trial hearings.

All four are seniors and expect to graduate from the all-boys Catholic school in Warren this spring.

Lovelace’s attorney, Jack Kramer, described him as “a good kid” who did nothing wrong.

“Truthfully, I feel bad for my client having been dragged through this ordeal,” Kramer said. “He denies assaulting anyone. He denies any hazing.”

The four students are the first of seven expected to be charged in connection with alleged “broomsticking,” as described by De La Salle officials, in which players were held down by teammates and poked in the thighs and buttocks by a different player holding a broomstick. Warren police say no penetration or injuries occurred.

After initial, separate investigations by police and the St. Clair County Prosecutor’s Office spanning four months, St. Clair Prosecutor Michael Wendling initially announced in late January no criminal charges would be filed. However, Wendling at the time said he was confident a crime had occurred but claimed evidence had been lost or stolen and criticized the school officials who refused to be interviewed.

The next day, a parent of a student contacted police alleging his son was a victim of hazing, Warren Police Commissioner William Dwyer said. A parent of a second student made a similar accusation, police added.

Last week, law enforcement officials said assault charges would be filed against seven students, including two who will be charged as juveniles.

Defense attorney Paul Addis, who represents Young and Pearson, considers it peculiar that all seven of the accused students are minorities.

“They’ve been investigating it since October. What took so long?” Addis told reporters outside the courtroom.

“My contention is there’s a 99-page police report with a lot of names in it. I just find it amazing only seven are charged and they’re all African American. I just find it coincidental, I guess,” he said.

“I think the way the investigation was handled by the (De La Salle) administration is unconscionable.”

“I think this investigation was tainted from the beginning,” Kramer said, adding he could not say whether Lovelace was interviewed by Warren police or anyone at the St. Clair County Prosecutor’s Office.

Pearson is the only defendant of the four arraigned Monday who was charged with two counts of assault and battery. At least one of his accusers is black. The other three suspects face one count, punishable by up to 90 days in jail.

Bonery had retained an attorney but she abruptly withdrew for an unspecified conflict of interest, officials said. Addis agreed to step in to represent him at Monday’s hearing as Bonery’s mother expects to hire another lawyer.

It’s not yet certain how the charges against the four will impact their status as students.

Last December, the school suspended three students – including Pearson – for more than 45 days as the investigation by police and prosecutors continued. All three filed a lawsuit against De La Salle, school administrators and its board of directors, claiming they were unfairly banned from classes. They later withdrew their lawsuit as part of an agreement with school officials to allow the trio to return to the classroom.

Addis represented the trio in that civil case. He told The Macomb Daily Monday one of the other two plaintiffs is a junior who is one of the two teens expected to be charged with assault in Macomb County Juvenile Court. His third client in the civil case is not facing criminal charges, he said.

After the hazing allegations surfaced last fall, De La Salle President John Knight in October abruptly cancelled the rest of the two-time defending state champions’ season on the eve of the state high school football playoffs. The cancellation and the suspension of coach Mike Giannone sparked an uproar in the De La Salle community, including students, parents and alumni. Giannone was later fired, and assistant coaches who did not have other employment roles at the school also were terminated.

Both defense attorneys Monday said the accusations could impact the futures of the four teens.

Young, a co-captain on the team, has a 3.0 grade point average and has committed to play football at Eastern Illinois, said Addis. Pearson has compiled a 3.6 GPA at De La Salle, is a member of the National Honor Society, president of the Black Students Association at De La Salle and has committed to continue his gridiron play at Albion College, Addis told Judge Matthew Sabaugh.

Sabaugh ordered all four defendants to have no contact with the alleged victims, commit no assaults and – with one exception – not leave Michigan. Pearson will be allowed to leave the state for a family vacation in Florida.

The four defendants are expected to return for district court for a pre-trial hearing, although no dates were immediately set.

A fifth student is expected to be charged as an adult on Tuesday.

Addis said it could take weeks before the two suspects slated to be charged as juveniles will be notified to appear in Macomb County Juvenile Court.

According to an internal school memo to Knight and Principal Nathan Maus dated Dec. 11 –- a copy of which was obtained by The Macomb Daily — a lawyer for De La Salle reported football players were victims of “dysfunctional tradition/culture” but suffered no injuries or lasting harm. Attorney John Gierak, of the law firm Clark Hill, reported all of the seniors on the team were interviewed last fall by Assistant Principal Brent Widdows and Athletic Director Mike Watson, and that “broomsticking” had been occurring for at least four years and was varied and widespread. The hazing occurred in the locker room while no coaches were present following team dinners on Thursdays, report states.

Giannone claimed he had no knowledge of hazing, according to the internal memo.

In an interview Feb. 21 with a reporter, fired assistant coach Bob Schroeder said he doubts hazing occurred. Schroeder, who spent the last 13 years at De La Salle before he and other assistants who were not otherwise employed in other roles at the school were terminated, believes Giannone was made the “fall guy” by the school administration.

The body of a Sterling Heights man who had been missing since Feb. 13 was found in his van Monday night on Detroit’s east side, according to reports.

Edelman, 33, was placed in handcuffs and put into a police cruiser at the scene, but was later released with the citation, said Beverly Hills police Sergeant Thomas West in a phone interview. Edelman was not taken to the police station for booking, West said.

He is scheduled to appear in Los Angeles County Superior Court on April 13.

Beverly Hills Police Chief Sandra Spagnoli said in an e-mail late Sunday afternoon that the police report would not be released until the district attorney reviews the case.

Earlier in the evening, Edelman appeared in an Instagram photo posted by former Celtics star Paul Pierce, which showed Edelman, Pierce, and Detriot Lions player Danny Amendola at Cantina Frida, which has a location on North Beverly Drive.

In a statement to the Globe Sunday, restaurant spokesman David Thompson said: “Julian Edelman was a guest at Cantina Frida [Saturday] night with some friends. They were polite and friendly.”

A Patriots team spokesman told the Globe Sunday that the team is aware of the situation, but had no comment.

The team announced Friday that Edelman was named the New England Patriots 2019 Ed Block Courage Award Winner, according to a statement on the Patriots website.

The award is bestowed to a player each year “who best exemplifies the principles of courage and sportsmanship while also serving as a source of inspiration,” the statement said.

Edelman is scheduled to be honored with fellow award winners from the other NFL teams in Baltimore on March 28, the statement said.

The citation wasn’t Edelman’s first run-in with the law. In November 2011, Edelman was arrested and charged with indecent assault and battery for allegedly groping a woman at a Copley Square nightclub. Suffolk County prosecutors dropped the charges a month later after concluding they would not be able to meet burden of proof in a trial.

Video surveillance footage of the incident showed physical contact between Edelman and the alleged victim was brief and “did not meet any elements of a crime,” according to a statement from the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.

Edelman signed a two-year, $18 million extension last May, which will keep him under contract through the end of the 2021 season.

Edelman finished the 2019 season with a career-high 1,117 receiving yards despite missing three games due to injuries. He caught 100 passes (six touchdowns) and will need knee and shoulder surgeries this offseason.

The Patriots were eliminated by the Titans in the AFC Wild Card round Jan. 4 with a 20-13 loss at Gillette Stadium.

The third of five former Wheaton College football players charged in a campus hazing incident pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor battery count Tuesday in DuPage County court.

Samuel TeBos, 22, of Allendale, Mich., was sentenced to a year of conditional discharge and ordered to perform 100 hours of community service, which is to include at least 25 hours talking to groups about the dangers of hazing.

TeBos, accompanied by his parents, admitted guilt to the charge in a brief hearing before Judge Brian Telander. In exchange for the guilty plea, prosecutors dropped other charges.

TeBos was given the same sentence that two of his former football teammates — Kyler Kregel and Noah Spielman — received in negotiated pleas with DuPage prosecutors.

The cases against James Cooksey and Benjamin Pettway remain pending.

The five were charged last year with several felonies, including aggravated battery, mob action and unlawful restraint, in the March 2016 incident that started in a college dorm room. The five, who were then members of the team, are alleged to have entered the room before striking a freshman player named Charles Nagy. The group then bound the player’s arms with duct tape and put a pillowcase over his head before taking him to a pickup truck.

They allegedly left Nagy semi-naked on a local baseball diamond. The player said he suffered torn muscles in his shoulders from having his arms bound, and the injuries required surgery.

During the court hearing, TeBos admitted that he was the player who bound Nagy and placed the pillowcase over his head.

TeBos’ attorney, Todd Pugh, said his client did not have any malicious intent.

A Michigan State men’s basketball player has been charged with one count of misdemeanor assault, according to a report from ESPN.

The player, 19, of Southfield was charged on March 8 by the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office, according to Outside the Lines.

MLive is not identifying the player because there is no record of his arraignment.

An Ingham County prosecutor’s office spokesman, Scott Hughes, declined comment Friday.

“There is no public record of that file, so I wouldn’t be able to comment,” Hughes told MLive.com.

Given the age at the time of the incident and Michigan penal code he was charged under, 750.81, the player would be eligible for Holmes Youthful Trainee Act status, allowing his record to be kept clean should he complete terms of his agreement.

Details of the alleged incident have not been revealed publicly, though an ESPN “Outside the Lines” report in February named the same individual as the subject of a sexual assault investigation.

An MSU team spokesman did not immediately return a request for comment on Friday.

John Engler, the university’s interim president, publicly criticized ESPN for naming the player in connection with a criminal sexual conduct investigation.

“The sad thing is, I think we should, probably as a Michigan State community, apologize to this young man and his family who has been named without, at least in that report, any evidence of any wrongdoing,” Engler said at the time.

“There was a report of allegations, but let’s say, at the end of the day, there’s nothing there. Where does he go? A lot of people now have read this and (could say) ‘What went on with you?’ His name should not have been public because … the investigation might still be going on.”

WHEATON, Ill. (WLS) —

A former Wheaton College football player charged in the team’s hazing scandal pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor in court on Thursday.

Noah Spielman pleaded guilty to misdemeanor battery, his attorney said. Prosecutors agreed to dismiss all felony counts against the former football player in exchange for his plea.

“What started out as a harmless prank evolved into a two-year ordeal that taught my client a lot of valuable lessons,” said Mark Sutter, Spielman’s defense attorney.

Spielman, the son of former Ohio State and all-pro linebacker Chris Spielman, appeared in front of a DuPage County judge again Thursday morning. He was sentenced to one year conditional discharge, which is basically probation along with paying a $250 anti-crime fee. He must also complete 100 hours of community service, including 25 hours of talking to youth about the dangers of hazing.

Spielman and four other Wheaton College football players were charged last fall with aggravated battery, mob action and unlawful restraint in connection to a hazing scandal in 2016.

A student who has identified himself as Charles Nagy says the players beat and bound him in his dorm room, then took him to a baseball field, leaving him there partially clothed.

In court, Sutter said that while Spielman accepted responsibility for his actions, he did not cause Nagy bodily harm and only kicked dirt on him after helping carry him to the truck.

“We were able to show them what Noah’s involvement was, the person he is,” Sutter said.

Spielman’s attorneys say because of their client’s lack of criminal history and his respective involvement in this incident, prosecutors agreed to this deal. They say he accepts responsibility for the role he played in this.

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin’s office wouldn’t comment on the plea dea that doesn’t require Spielman to further testify, but in a statement wrote: “This morning, Noah Spielman took responsibility for his actions. I cannot make any further comment at this time.”

Last week, Nagy filed a lawsuit last week against the school and all the players except Spielman. He says he had to have surgery from some of his injuries. He also withdrew from the school.

All the other players have entered not guilty pleas. Their cases are still pending.

Former NBA star Dennis Rodman was charged on Thursday with misdemeanor drunken driving stemming from a Jan. 13 traffic stop in Newport Beach.

Prosecutors allege his blood-alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit when he was pulled over at 11:11 p.m. near 4500 West Coast Highway.

His lawyer, Paul Meyer, said that after his arrest Rodman, 56, immediately went into a residential treatment program and committed to long-term outpatient treatment.

“He recognizes the problem and is working hard,” Meyer said in a statement. “No one questions his big heart and care for others. In recent months, he completed his community-service obligation (for a previous case) by donating many hours in long-term care facilities and making a real difference in people’s lives. I think the responsible way that Dennis is facing his current situation will be an inspiration to many others.”
