Strong could face up to a year in prison, thousands in fines

The Whitman County Prosecutor’s Office has charged a former University of Montana football player with second-degree assault after he allegedly beat a WSU track and field athlete last October.

Justin Strong, a 22-year-old defensive back who just completed his final season with the Grizzlies, will appear in Whitman County Superior Court on July 13, according to Pullman Radio News.

Strong allegedly beat 23-year-old Bradley “Wyatt”” Meyring after an altercation at a party, leaving him with a fractured skull and hematoma. While three men allegedly took part in the attack, Strong was the only suspect publicly identified.

Strong claimed he had been breaking up a fight when Meyring hit him at the party earlier in the night. Witnesses of the attack said Meyring put his hands up in an attempt to show the perpetrators he did not want to fight. Strong also claimed the attack was in self-defense.

Montana released a statement in the days following the attack, which said Strong was suspended for two games for code of conduct violations.

If convicted, Strong could face three to 12 months in prison and fines of up to $20,000 for his first offense, with the sentence jumping to a possible maximum of 10 years for any future offenses of the same nature.

Former University of Montana football player charged alleged assault

WHITMAN COUNTY, Wash. – 22-year-old Justin Strong, an NFL hopeful and former University of Montana football player, has been charged for allegedly severely beating a Washington State University track and field thrower, Bradley “Wyatt” Meyring.

The incident occurred on Pullman’s College Hill during the early morning hours of Saturday, October 21. Strong told police he was assaulted by Meyring while trying to break up a fight at a house party. He told officers they had a second confrontation outside when Strong said Meyring balled his fists. Strong told police he acted in self defense, allegedly admitting he struck Meyring and knocked him to the ground, hitting him again when he tried to get up.

Witnesses told police they saw three men chase down Meyring on Stadium Way and attack him even after he reportedly put his hands up, signaling he did not want to fight.

Meyring suffered a skull fracture and was flown to the hospital in Spokane.

Strong was the only suspect identified and has been charged with a felony in Whitman County superior court.

Rookie Jet Dylan Donahue, who was busted after a boozed-up crash in the Lincoln Tunnel last month, also faces a DUI charge in his home state of Montana, according to a report.

The linebacker known as “Wild Man” had a blood-alcohol level of 0.15 percent – almost twice the legal limit – when his Dodge Charger Hellcat collided with a jitney bus on Feb. 26, source said.

The 6-foot-3, 248-pound athlete — who failed sobriety and Breathalyzer tests — boasted about his position as a backup and special-teams player during his arrest.

The 25-year-old also was involved in a car wreck on May 9, 2017, in Billings, just nine days after he was drafted by Gang Green in the fifth round, ESPN reported.

According to an affidavit from the Billings City Attorney’s office, Donahue’s blood-alcohol content was tested at 0.137 percent. The legal limit is 0.08, the sports outlet reported.

Police found Donahue, whose SUV was flipped over, and an unidentified male passenger bleeding about 2:30 a.m., according to the document.

Donahue told cops he smashed into a parked, unoccupied pickup truck after looking down to check his phone and failing to brake in time.

He admitted having “several alcoholic drinks earlier in the evening” after an officer detected the smell of alcohol, ESPN reported, citing the affidavit.

He was charged with felony criminal endangerment, but it was declined by the county attorney’s office and amended at the city attorney’s office as a misdemeanor DUI charge.

“This is a pending legal matter, and we will have no further comment,” said a Jets spokesman, who declined to tell ESPN whether the team knew of the arrest.

Donahue is subject to NFL disciplinary measures under the league’s substance-abuse policy.

For his Lincoln Tunnel arrest, Donahue is due back in court on April 11 in Weehawken, where he faces DWI and reckless driving charges, according to NJ Advance Media.

In that case, he drove into the wrong tube and crashed into a 15-passenger bus. Four of the passengers were sent to a hospital with minor injuries, according to authorities.

Suleiman Mahmood, 21, who was in the passenger seat in Donahue’s car, was charged with disorderly conduct.

Donahue suffered a season-ending elbow injury in the Jets’ 23-20 win over the Jaguars last fall. He played in four games last season.
