“He was always towering over everybody, as a child through adulthood, but his character has always been the same,” said high school friend Coach Chuck. “He really was a gentle giant. He really was about fairness and goodness for everybody, even at the expense of his own hurt, he still stood for that. He said, ‘That’s what means something.'”

In the 1990s, Floyd became a known rapper under the name Big Floyd, alongside DJ Screw and the hip hop group Screwed Up Click.

He ran into trouble with the law in his 20s and 30s, including theft in 1998 and drug charges in 2002 and 2005. He was charged in 2007 with armed robbery in a home invasion in Houston and was sentenced to five years in prison as part of a plea deal, according to court documents.

Friends said after serving time, he became an anti-violence advocate and decided to get a fresh start by moving to Minnesota in 2014.

“He was changing his life. He went to Minnesota. He was driving trucks,” Stephen Jackson, NBA champion basketball player and longtime friend of Floyd, said in an Instagram post. “Floyd was my brother, man. We called each other ‘twin.'”

Floyd’s roommate in St. Louis Park, Alvin Manago, said he became a man of faith and mostly kept to himself.

“God-fearing, things like that,” said Manago. “He just would read his little scriptures every once in a while. He had them by his bed.”

Floyd worked several jobs in the Twin Cities, most recently as a security guard at Conga Latin Bistro in Minneapolis.

“He’s that type of person that if you need help, you can count on him,” said his former boss Jovanni Thunstrom. “Very nice guy. My employees loved him. My customers loved him. He was very respectful and a hard worker.”

Floyd was also a father of five, according to speakers at his memorial service Thursday.

His son, Quincy Mason, spoke in Minneapolis earlier this week, saying, “We deserve justice. That’s all I have to say.”

In an interview with ABC News, Floyd’s 6-year-old daughter Gianna said she wants the world to know “that I miss him.”

“My heart is broke for my baby. It’s broke,” said Gianna’s mother Roxie Washington. “I mean that was his baby. He loved his little girl.”

Floyd found love while living in Minneapolis. He met girlfriend Courteney Ross about three years ago. She said it was “love at first sight” and described him as funny, talkative and kind.

“He believed everyone in this world should get a chance. There’s no throwaway people. There’s nobody that doesn’t deserve love. He always showed that,” Ross said through tears.

Floyd’s six siblings said he stood for peace and unity.

“He always saw the lighter, the brighter side of things, and he made you feel like you could just do anything, like you could rule the world even if you’re going through something. That’s just how he spoke to you,” said brother Terrence Floyd. “That’s how I could just sum it up. He was a motivator, peaceful motivator.”

They hope his legacy will be one of change.

Floyd died at the age of 46 while in the custody of Minneapolis police officers.

He remains behind bars after not applying for bail with further charges to be revealed at a court hearing on May 11.

“Police arrested a 53-year-old man on Saturday 2 May in relation to an incident outside (an) address in St Kilda about 9pm,” Victoria Police said in a statement on Sunday.

“He was charged with stalking and other matters.

“The Moonee Ponds man was held over to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today, Sunday 3 May.

“He was remanded to appear at the same court on 11 May.

Laidley’s lawyer, Dee Giannopolous, blasted the release of the images, which also included a police profile shot, on Twitter.

They appeared to have been taken from inside the police interview room where, according to the West Australia, Laidley demanded to be called ‘Daniella’.

“Outraged that pictures of my client, taken by some police officer, on the sly, when in custody in interview have hit the media. Typical,” Giannopolous tweeted.

Lawyer Bill Doogue added: “Disgraceful. Taking photos unlawfully and sharing them. And these were sneaky photos while in Police interview in Police Station by a Police Officer.”

“Police should investigate and those involved pull down immediately.”

Victoria’s leading civil liberties advocate also slammed the leaked images.

“The images circulating of a high-profile arrest today are deplorable breach of privacy,” Liberty Victoria tweeted.

“The transphobic overtones only serve to make the breach even more egregious.

“Not good enough @VictoriaPolice: we are watching,” the council wrote.

“Please deal with this unacceptable incident swiftly & properly. “

The father of three’s former manager, Ricky Nixon, tweeted: “Guess who’s the least surprised person in Aust. on Dean Laidley — if only the media knew what I knew”.

Laidley's mug shot was also leaked from his police file.

He later added that Laidley had confided in him regularly during the 15 years he managed him.

Laidley played 151 games for West Coast and North Melbourne, then coaching the Kangaroos for six and a half seasons. He won the 1996 premiership as a player.

North Carolina State guard Eric Lockett was arrested and charged with assault early Thursday for an alleged altercation he had with a woman believed to be his ex-girlfriend on Tuesday, arrest records from the Raleigh Police Department show.

According to online court records, Lockett is accused of hitting the woman in the face during an argument that saw an Uber driver call the police.

In his first court appearance Thursday morning, a judge ordered the 23-year-old to have no contact with the alleged victim. He is currently being held without bond at the Wake County (N.C.) Detention Center. Because he has no previous criminal history, Lockett is eligible for the pretrial release program that would set his bond at $1,500. His next court date is slated for March 27.

North Carolina State Wolfpack guard Eric Lockett (5) shoots the ball against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in the second half at Lawrence Joel Coliseum.

N.C. State coach Kevin Keatts said in a statement issued by the university that Lockett was indefinitely suspended. “We await additional information,” he added.

Messages made by USA TODAY Sports to reach Lockett’s attorney or legal representation were unsuccessful.

Lockett, a senior grad transfer averaging 5.0 points and 3.3 rebounds per game this season, missed Wednesday’s game against Syracuse.

North Canberra-Gungahlin president Phil Coe says the club has had “significant internal conversations” following a player’s six-match ban for a racial slur.

A Norths player was charged for making two alleged racist remarks in his side’s first innings win against Weston Creek Molonglo at Harrison Oval on February 3.

He was facing four changes but had two dropped when he faced the Cricket ACT disciplinary tribunal.

The player has since been ineligible to play in any grade and has been rubbed out of contention to play in the last round of the Douglas Cup against Eastlake at Kingston Oval on Saturday.

Coe hopes Cricket ACT remain consistent in their approach to similar behaviour across the competition, believing “there are improvements to be made for next season”.

Senior Norths players and officials have spoken with the charged player to make him aware that his actions were not acceptable.

His teammates were shocked at the time and he has made clear he regrets making the comments.

Weston Creek Molonglo’s charge alleged the player had made four separate comments but two of those were thrown out by the tribunal.

“Anyone who is reported should be held accountable for what actually happened. In the case there was a breach of code where [the player] deserved to meet those consequences,” Coe said.

“We’re certainly not defending him in regard to any racial slur and saying that it’s okay, but in the case that actually happened a couple of weeks ago there was disagreement about what actually happened.

“He has been given a six-match sentence and we are not appealing that decision. He was found guilty of making an inappropriate comment and we accept that, we’re not fighting it from that side of things.”

A Weston Creek Molonglo spokesman says the club has opted to respect the process and wait before making any comment.

Cricket ACT chief executive Cameron French declined to comment, but the governing body confirmed an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

The suspension will carry over into the 2018-19 season, given there is just four weekends of cricket remaining this season and Norths aren’t a certainty to make the finals.

Norths are locked in a tight battle to hold on to fourth spot on the ladder with first-placed Eastlake standing in their way with an eye on a minor premiership.

Queanbeyan and Weston Creek Molonglo’s clash could be a rehearsal for next week’s semi-finals, which will be played as a three-day match beginning on Friday.

Tuggeranong and Ginninderra will look to force their way into finals contention when they face each other at Chisholm Oval, where a first innings win for either side could be enough to guarantee a top four berth.

Western District-UC remain a mathematical chance but their clash with ANU shapes as little more than a consolation battle at Jamison Oval.

Both sides are preparing to bring down the curtain on underwhelming two-day campaigns following their limited overs heroics that delivered a Twenty20 title to Wests and a one-day grand final appearance to the Owls.

CRICKET ACT DOUGLAS CUP

Saturday: Round 14 – Western District-UC v ANU at Jamison Oval, Eastlake v North Canberra-Gungahlin at Kingston Oval, Queanbeyan v Weston Creek Molonglo at Freebody Oval, Tuggeranong v Ginninderra at Chisholm Oval. Play starts at 11am.

A fatal rollover wreck in the early morning of Dec. 29 on Puma Paw Ranch Road north of Rifle left two people dead, and the driver of the vehicle is in custody on charges including drunken driving and vehicular homicide.

Trent Johnson, 41, the father of standout Glenwood Springs High School volleyball player Baylee Johnson, was killed in the wreck just after midnight on the 29th along with Matthew Smith, 36, of Rifle.

Johnson’s 10-year-old son, Rylan Johnson, was also seriously injured in the crash and flown to Denver for treatment. He was expected to be released today or Wednesday, according to those close to the family.

The driver of the vehicle, Cody Christopher, 40, was also taken to Grand River Hospital in Rifle with minor injuries. Johnson and Smith were both pronounced dead at the scene, Garfield County Coroner Robert Glassmire said.

Meanwhile, Christopher, is currently listed in custody at the Garfield County Jail on charges of vehicular homicide and assault, DUI and other charges stemming from the accident. He was due in court for an advisement hearing Tuesday afternoon.

The Johnsons, along with the two family friends, were headed out on a hunting trip when the crash occurred on the private ranch road located off of Garfield County Road 219, northwest of Rifle Gap Reservoir. Johnson and the other passenger and were ejected from the vehicle.

None of the occupants in the SUV were wearing seat belts, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

Traveling in a 2003 Ford SUV, the vehicle went over an embankment while traveling north on the ranch road and rolled nearly two full turns, ejecting both Johnson and Smith.

Following the loss of Trent, the Johnson family is in need of some help to cover medical expenses. Glenwood Springs head volleyball coach Kehau Rust has created a Go Fund Me page to help support the Johnsons. The goal of the Go Fund Me page is to raise $7,000. Currently, more than $3,100 has poured in via donations since the page was created Monday evening.

To help support the Johnson family, visit the Go Fund Me page, or contact Rust at kehaurust17@gmail.com. Donations can also be made to the Go Fund Me account through the Glenwood Springs High School volleyball team’s official Facebook page.
