VICTORIA —
The B.C. government has terminated membership in the Order of British Columbia for a former Canadian Football League player involved in a U.S. college admissions cheating scam.

David Sidoo, a former CFL player and businessman from Vancouver, was appointed to the Order of B.C. in July 2016. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud in a Boston federal court in March.

On Friday, the province announced it had revoked Sidoo’s membership in the Order of B.C.

“This process is initiated when a member of the order is convicted of a criminal offence or when their conduct undermines the credibility and integrity of the order,” the province said in a statement.

Sidoo was among 50 prominent parents, university athletic coaches and others charged in the scheme, which authorities say involved rigged entrance exams and bogus athletic credentials to make applicants look like star athletes for sports they didn’t play.

Sidoo paid the admissions consultant at the centre of the scheme US$200,000 to have someone pose as his sons using a fake ID to secure higher scores on their SATs, prosecutors said.

Sidoo and nearly two dozen parents, including Desperate Housewives star Felicity Huffman, pleaded guilty to the charges. Huffman was sentenced to two weeks in prison. Sentences for other parents range from no prison time to nine months behind bars.

Sidoo played professional football for six years for the Saskatchewan Roughriders and BC Lions. He was CEO of mining firm Advantage Lithium Corp. when he was arrested last year and was also a founding shareholder of an oil and gas company that was sold in 2010 for more than $600 million.

Former Chicago White Sox pitcher and Atlantic Coast baseball coach Joel Davis has been arrested again on charges involving domestic battery.

Former Atlantic Coast High baseball coach Joel Davis is in the Duval County jail after being charged Wednesday with three misdemeanor counts of domestic battery, violating a protective injunction and resisting an officer without violence.

Davis, 55, has been electronically monitored since Feb. 15 for two other counts of violating a protective order against his estranged wife. Wednesday he was booked into jail shortly before 2 p.m. and was listed as being held in pretrial detention. He has a court appearance scheduled for Thursday at 9 a.m.

The Times-Union has requested the arrest report on the latest charges. Details have not been released.

Davis’ attorney, Lee Lockett, declined comment, telling the Times-Union via email that he didn’t get a chance to review the arrest and booking reports until late Wednesday afternoon and had not yet spoken with his client on the new charges.

Davis has previously been charged with violating injunctions for protection orders issued on behalf of his current wife, who filed for divorce on Jan. 3 after five years of marriage, and another woman eight years ago. His current wife filed for the protective order four days after filing for divorce.

According to the Jan. 7 injunction, his estranged wife said she moved out of their Mastin Cove Road home in September after several instances of violence. She said Davis has been stalking her and calling her multiple times, including 10 times on Dec. 18. She said he came to her apartment multiple times daily and pounded on her door.

She said in the injunction that Davis has threatened to kill her and has a history of domestic violence with his two previous wives.

Court records show another woman filed an injunction for protection against him in 2012. She said she locked herself in a bedroom after he made a comment, and he hit the door so hard that it popped open. He began to yell and she told him it was the last straw. He told her she was not going to get out of there with his kids.

She said they had discussed divorce, but “he told me that if I ever tried to leave him that he would kill me and bury me so deep that no one would find me,” she said in the document.

Davis was released as the Atlantic Coast baseball coach after his arrest of February. At the time, Duval County Public Schools spokeswoman Laureen Ricks said Davis “remains employed at the school but was released from coaching baseball due to personal and health concerns including the arrest.”

Davis had been at Atlantic Coast since 2010.

He played high school ball at Sandalwood, where he was the Times-Union’s player of the year in 1982 and 1983. Davis was a No. 1 pick by the Chicago White Sox, where he played from 1985-88. He was 8-14 with a 4.91 ERA for his career, and started 41 of 49 games. He struck out 126 batters in 247.2 innings.

Fallen footy star Ben Cousins is facing 15 charges including aggravated stalking and breaching a restraining order after he was arrested in Perth.

The former West Coast Eagles captain was taken into custody on Wednesday after allegedly being found with methamphetamine in the suburb of East Victoria Park.

Police had been searching for a vehicle that was seen driving erratically earlier in the day before finding it in Kensington around noon.

The 41-year-old was allegedly found asleep next to the car with 2.5 grams of ice.

WA Police refused to comment on the type of car Cousins was driving after it was located.

He has also been charged with aggravated stalking and 13 charges relating to the breaching of a restraining order between April 2 and April 15.

Those charges do not relate to Wednesday’s incident and the victim is known to Cousins, police said.

Cousins was placed in a holding cell at the Perth watch house and will face Armadale Magistrates Court on Thursday.

A white prison van believed to be transporting the former AFL player was photographed leaving the court in Perth on Thursday afternoon.

The former premiership player and Brownlow medallist has been in and out of prison in recent years as he struggled with his meth addiction, and served almost one year behind bars for stalking his ex-partner Maylea Tinecheff.

He had been scheduled to face a trial last September over more alleged family violence offences, but after charges of stalking and threatening to harm Ms Tinecheff were dropped, he pleaded guilty to 12 lesser offences.

He was sentenced to eight months in prison but it was backdated and with time already served, he was able to walk free in August.

His lawyer Michael Tudori told AAP at the time his client was doing well and continuing to self-fund his rehabilitation with the Whitehaven Clinic, saying it was ‘a long road to recovery’.

The arrest comes just three weeks after Cousins appeared in a tell-all interview with Channel Seven where he opened up about his drug addiction.

Sporting long hair in a ponytail and a scruffy beard, Cousins admitted he’d ‘stuffed things up royally’ and that it was time to put things right.

‘I hope people can see I’m having a crack at turning it around,’ he said.

But Cousins gave an unconvincing answer when asked if he was still using drugs.

‘I’m just thinking how… I’m just not sure about how to answer that,’ he said.

‘My issues have been more greater and complex than my drug use.

‘In a perfect world, I would’ve have liked come out the other side a long time ago. That hasn’t been the case.’

Cousins was tight-lipped when asked when was the last time he took drugs.

‘It’s just one of those things, I’d rather not go there,’ he said.

‘I don’t think it helps.’

‘Last week, last month?,’ Basil Zempilas pressed.

Cousins replied: ‘Well…you know, not today is enough for me and it should be enough for other people.

Cousins had this message to today’s youth about taking drugs.

‘I would encourage them to think long and hard before they decide to go down that path,’ Cousins said.

‘Just be aware of the ramifications and take it seriously.’

Confronting footage from the interview also showed a furious Cousins in the backseat of a car, ranting about the custody of his kids.

‘I don’t think a mother plays any more of an important role than the bloke does,’ Cousins says in the rant filmed in February.

‘It needs to be stopped. Every time I see the coppers I say to them ”you guys have let me down”.

‘The community has let me down. My family, her family, have let me down. This has gone on for too long.

‘If I get to a point where and I’m going to pick a cause single-mindedly… or with that cause towards you – I want there to be carnage.

‘Blood will spill. So, it’s up to you guys so if you want to change this.’

Cousins described the mother of his children, Maylea Tinecheff, as the most defiant person he’d ever known – and said he wanted underworld figure Mick Gatto to  mediate access to his two children.

He said he was willing to give his Brownlow Medal to Gatto in return.

‘I’ve never met anyone as defiant. You know? Mick Gatto couldn’t tell her what to do,’ Cousins said.

‘Mick … I’m just telling you – and I honestly was going to get him to come over, I was going to give him my Brownlow – to mediate.

‘That’s how big a thing it was, you know?’

In a rare light-hearted moment during the documentary, Cousins was reminded about a nude photo of him after a spray tan that surfaced on social media last year.

‘Mate, there’s a fantastic photo of Ben at a spray tan place,’ a man can heard saying off-camera.

‘Oh please,’ Cousins laughed.

‘You posted it,’ Zempilas told him.

Cousins replied: ‘I didn’t actually, that was the problem. I can’t believe it happened the way it did.

‘I wasn’t doing someone a favour. I was trying to get a root, that’s what I was trying to do basically. That wasn’t supposed to go anywhere.’

The pair laughed when Zempilas said it wasn’t the worst thing Cousins had ever done.

The infamous photo never got the desired result.

‘No ships, only hardships,’ Cousins said.

He was grilled about his tumultuous relationship with the mother of his children and former partner, Maylea Tinecheff.

In January 2018, Cousins was released from prison after serving 10 months of the one-year sentence for breaching a restraining order taken out by Ms Tinecheff.

He was back in jail months later following charges making threats and breaking a violence restraining order.

He spent eight months in jail until his release on bail last April.

Two charges of stalking and threatening to harm Ms Tinecheff were later dropped.

Cousins later pleaded guilty to the remaining 12 offences of breaching a violence restraining order and was sentenced to eight months in prison, which he had already served.

‘As you know, I wasn’t convicted of some of those things’, Cousins told Zempilas.

‘But I agree with you yeah, some of it is inexcusable.’

When asked if he was embarrassed about where he ended up, Cousins replied: ‘I’m not proud.’

SINGAPORE – A former doctor at the Singapore General Hospital (SGH), who recorded multiple videos of men using urinals, was sentenced on Monday (April 6) to a year’s mandatory treatment order.

This means Indonesian national Jerry Christian Nagaputra, 31, has to undergo treatment for his mental condition in lieu of jail time.

Defence lawyer Lee Teck Leng had earlier told a district court that his client had “adjustment disorder with depressed and anxious moods”.

Mr Lee added: “(He) resorted to filming men urinating as a dysfunctional method of coping with his adjustment disorder resulting from his multiple stressors.”

The Institute of Mental Health said on its website that an adjustment disorder is “a short-term maladaptive response to a stressor”, resulting in the development of emotional and/or behavioural symptoms.

Nagaputra pleaded guilty on March 9 to three charges under the Films Act after he recorded multiple videos of men using urinals in February last year.

Twenty other similar charges were taken into consideration during sentencing.

He no longer worked for MOH Holdings, which is the holding firm of Singapore’s public healthcare clusters, as of Oct 25 last year.

His name was also not on the list of registered healthcare professionals in Singapore on Monday.

On Feb 9 last year, the Singapore permanent resident went to a men’s toilet it Ngee Ann City shopping mall and filmed a man who was using a urinal.

Two days later, Nagaputra went to a men’s toilet at Bugis Junction shopping centre and stood beside a 27-year-old man at a urinal.

Nagaputra had a mobile phone in his left hand, with its camera facing the man’s private parts.

The man later confronted Nagaputra, who claimed that he had only photographs of food on the device.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Foo Shi Hao had told District Judge May Mesenas: “However, while the accused was scrolling through his photographs, the complainant noticed an image of a urinal… and requested to check the phone himself. The accused complied.”

The man then found videos of men urinating.

Nagaputra tried to delete the films and run away but was stopped by the man and other passers-by, said DPP Foo.

The man alerted the police soon after.

For each charge under the Films Act, Nagaputra could have been jailed for up to two years and fined up to $40,000.
