Police have charged a suspect in the fatal stabbing of Clay Beathard, the starting quarterback on the Long Island University football team, brother of an NFL player and grandson of a former NFL general manager.

Beathard, 22, and 21-year-old Paul Trapeni III were stabbed Saturday, Dec. 21 at 2:50 a.m. in Nashville, Tennessee during a fight involving several persons outside the Dogwood Bar & Grill at 1907 Division Street, in midtown, according to Metro Nashville Police.

The stabbings appear to have resulted from an argument over a woman that began inside the bar and then turned physical when the parties went outside, police said. The dispute began over an unwanted advancement made by a man toward the woman in the bar, police added.

Multiple persons were involved in the outdoor fight during which the two men were both fatally stabbed in their sides.

Beathard, of Thompson Station, Tennessee, and Trapeni, of Franklin, Tennessee, were both transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where they died.

A third stabbing victim, Alvin Jefferson (A.J.) Bethurum, 21, suffered injuries to his eye and arm and is continuing to recover, said police.

Police now say 23-year-old Michael Mosley has been charged with two counts of criminal homicide and one count of attempted criminal homicide.

Mosley has a long rap sheet that includes multiple aggravated burglary, attempted aggravated burglary and drug-related arrests and convictions dating back five years.

Mosley has been identified as being present both inside and outside of the Dogwood Bar, including when the fight occurred, police said.

Beathard, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound junior, appeared in seven games before missing the remainder of the season due to injury this season.

He completed 52-percent of his pass attempts (94-for-182), throwing for 1,071 yards and four touchdowns.

Beathard was the son of country music songwriter Casey Beathard and Susan Beathard.

Clay Beathard’s brother, C.J., is a quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers picked up an emotional 34-31 win over the Los Angeles Rams on Saturday night after C.J. had returned home to Tennessee prior to the game to be with his family.

”The 49ers family was shocked and deeply saddened to learn of the tragedy involving C.J. Beathard’s younger brother, Clayton,” the 49ers said in a statement. “We extend our heartfelt sympathies to C.J. and the entire Beathard family as they cope with the unthinkable loss of a loved one.

Another brother, Tucker Beathard, is a country music singer/songwriter.

Grandfather, Bobby Beathard, is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame after winning four Super Bowls as an NFL general manager with four different teams: the Kansas City Chiefs, Miami Dolphins, Washington Redskins and San Diego Chargers.

“Clay was an amazing, big and soft-hearted human being with an undeniable love for the Lord,” the Beathard family said in a statement. “He had his family’s, friends’ and teammates’ backs even to a fault. I wish he would have been more inclined to take the high road but he hated ‘wrong.’

“That is what we will hold in our hearts because we know he is smiling now. He always worried about all of our welfare, never his own.”

Clay Beathard is also survived by sisters Channing and Tatum.

LIU football coach Bryan Collins said Clay Beathard had a “love of life, people, especially his teammates” and was a “shining light in our program.”

“All of my thoughts and prayers are with the Beathard Family,” Collins added. “Clay, you will be remembered always.”

Former Penn State football player Harry Hamilton is allowed on State College Area School District property after District Judge Carmine Prestia modified his bail. Hamilton, who is charged with a felony count of burglary and criminal trespassing, has two sons in the school district.

He waived his right to a preliminary hearing on Wednesday after initially indicating he would ask for a continuance. Hamilton, 55, said he was going to represent himself in the case, but told Prestia he has not practiced personal law. When the two attempted to clarify the situation, Prestia discovered that Hamilton’s license was inactive, according to the Pennsylvania Disciplinary Board.

The former two-time Academic All-American and 8-year professional in the NFL also asked for a modification on a no-contact order, which was denied by Prestia.

The modification that was granted will allow him on school grounds. Hamilton said in court papers that he would like to attend school-related events for his children.

The Centre Daily Times previously reported Hamilton allegedly accused his son of drug use before punching him in the head several times. State College police said he also threw another person to the ground during the incident before he fled the residence.

Hamilton vehemently denied the allegations to the Times-Leader. He accused State College police of trying to create a big story due to his fame while ignoring a local drug dealer who he said supplies marijuana to the State College Area High School track team.

“We have no interest in chasing headlines,” police said.

The department also said they have no knowledge of a drug war cover-up, as alleged by Hamilton. Police also said they have no ill will toward him and wish nothing but the best for Hamilton and his family.

Hamilton filed a request for an immediate stay of punishment, including fingerprinting, to the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania on March 23.

“Hamilton hopes to amend if Hamilton must appear and get fingerprinted and photographed entering the national criminal database within the days remaining because of the absence of a stay or other appropriate relief,” Hamilton said in the request.

In his motion for a temporary restraining order on March 26, Hamilton argues that fingerprinting and photographing is a cruel and unusual punishment upon “a man protecting and raising a son in the face of insurmountable odds with no direct answers as to the best approach.”

He also said State College authorities have tried to criminally charge him for constant and regular involvement with his children since 2006.

In his request for an immediate stay of punishment overview, Hamilton said a Caucasian mother and African-American/aboriginal father disagree about discipline. He said he believes his teenage son is pushing to do illicit activity and was surprised when he was allegedly caught and disciplined.

“Probable cause is lacking that defendant or anyone acting on defendant’s behalf was ever placed on any actual or constructive notice that he was not allowed in or on the premises of his son for any and all purposes,” Hamilton said. “Defendant is now again faced with criminality for attempting to defy statistical odds and be a strong black African/Aboriginal American male in the lives of his two teenage young men of similar background.”

United States District Judge Matthew Brann denied Hamilton’s request on March 30.

Hamilton sued the NFL for $5 million in 2014, according to Sports Illustrated. He claimed he was not made fully aware of the dangers associated with football-related head injuries.

At the time of the lawsuit, Hamilton said he has memory issues, headaches, anger management issues and occasionally relies on painkillers.

The ex-wife of former NBA player Lorenzen Wright is pleading not guilty to murder charges in his death more than seven years ago.

Sherra Wright’s lawyers entered the plea Monday in Shelby County criminal court in Tennessee. Wright wore an orange jail jumpsuit and responded “no sir” when asked by Judge Lee Coffee if she had any questions about the case.

She was arrested in December in Riverside County, California, more than seven years after Lorenzen Wright’s decomposing body was found in a suburban Memphis field. He was missing for 10 days before his body was found on July 28, 2010.

Another person charged with first-degree murder in the case, Billy Turner, has pleaded not guilty. Wright and Turner are scheduled to appear in court on March 19.

Charges have been filed against undocumented immigrant who allegedly drove drunk and killed two men in a car crash, including Indianapolis Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson.

The incident drew attention from President Donald Trump and others, who said the case illustrated the need to crack down on illegal immigration, but Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry slammed that move.

“We will vigorously prosecute this matter, just like any comparable crime, not because of the immigration status of an accused, but because two innocent men lost their lives in this horrible incident.”

“We are disheartened that ghoulish and inappropriate public commentary has politicized this tragedy,” Curry said, adding, “Much of such commentary including tweets by the President, fails to acknowledge that both Edwin Jackson and Jeffrey Monroe lost their lives on Sunday. We will simply seek justice on behalf of the families of those two victims.”

Manuel Orrego-Savala, of Guatemala, has been charged with two counts of causing death when operating a motor vehicle and two counts of failure to remain at the scene of an accident.

A judge today entered a not guilty plea on his behalf, the prosecutor’s office told ABC News. Defense attorney Jorge Torres said today that his client is distraught and confused and that his immigration status isn’t related to the car accident, according to The Associated Press. Torres did not immediately respond to ABC News’ request for comment.

The crash took place Sunday after Jackson, who was a passenger in a car, became ill, and the man driving him, Jeffrey Monroe, pulled over, the Indiana State Police said. The men were standing outside the car on the side of I-70 in Marion County when a truck drove onto the emergency shoulder, hitting them both, police said.

Orrego-Savala, 37, fled on foot and was later apprehended, according to cops.

Police said that Orrego-Savala, who was using the alias Alex Cabrera Gonsales, was believed to be intoxicated and driving without a license at the time of the collision. A breath test found his blood alcohol content to be 0.239 percent, over the limit of .08 percent, according to a probable cause affidavit.

The crash threw one of the victims into the center lane of the highway, where that victim was also hit by a responding state police trooper, police said. Both Jackson, 26, and Monroe, 54, died at the scene, police said.

Besides the two deportations, Orrego-Savala was convicted of driving under the influence in California in 2005 and has had many other misdemeanor arrests and convictions in California and Indiana, said U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) spokesperson Nicole Alberico.

President Trump blasted Orrego-Savala on Twitter Tuesday, writing that it’s “so disgraceful that a person illegally in our country killed Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson. This is just one of many such preventable tragedies. We must get the Dems to get tough on the Border, and with illegal immigration, FAST!”

Several Indiana politicians also linked the crash to immigration.

Colts General Manager Chris Ballard told reporters this morning that his thoughts were “with Edwin and Jeffrey and their families.”

To the families, he said, “We’re going to be with you every step of the way as an organization.”

“What Edwin stood for, the type of kid he was, the type of man he is, how he wanted to be great at football, how he wanted to make a difference in other people’s lives, and that’s important.

“It’s important that we remember [Jackson] for the things he stood for,” Ballard said. “What Edwin stood for, the type of kid he was, the type of man he is, how he wanted to be great at football, how he wanted to make a difference in other people’s lives … and it’s a shame his life was cut short.”

The Latest on a suspected drunken-driving crash that killed Indianapolis Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson and another man (all times local):

2:45 p.m.

Indiana prosecutors are seeking a DNA sample from the Guatemalan man charged in a drunken-driving crash that killed Indianapolis Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson and an Uber driver.

Ryan Mears is chief trial deputy for the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office. He says the request stems from the numerous aliases used by the suspect.

Investigators say the suspect, 37-year-old Manuel Orrego-Savala, has twice been deported from the U.S. and was illegally living in the country at the time of Sunday’s crash in Indianapolis. Along with Jackson, the crash killed 54-year-old Jeffrey Monroe.

Mears says investigators want to compare the DNA to samples taken from inside the pickup truck that hit and killed the two victims along Interstate 70.

Mears says the tests will help determine Orrego-Savala’s identity and presence in the truck. But he notes that there’s already “pretty strong circumstantial evidence in the case.”

10:50 a.m.

An Indiana prosecutor is decrying President Donald Trump and others for politicizing the case of a Guatemalan man charged in a drunken-driving crash that killed an Indianapolis Colts player and his Uber driver.

Marion County Prosecutor Terry Curry says he’s disheartened by what he calls “ghoulish and inappropriate public commentary” surrounding the Sunday crash.

The Democrat is handling the criminal case against the suspect, 37-year-old Manuel Orrego-Savala. He was charged in Marion County on Wednesday with four felony counts.

Curry says comments from Trump and others about the man’s immigration status fail to acknowledge the deaths of men killed: Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson and his Uber driver, Jeffrey Monroe.

Trump tweeted about the case Tuesday, saying it’s “so disgraceful” that Jackson was killed by a person who was in the U.S. illegally. Trump also prodded Democrats to work with him on illegal immigration and border security.

The attorney for a Guatemalan man charged in a drunken-driving crash that killed Indianapolis Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson and another man says his client is distraught and confused.

Defense attorney Jorge Torres spoke Wednesday after a Marion County judge entered a not guilty plea for his client, 37-year-old Manuel Orrego-Savala.

The case has gained attention from President Donald Trump and others in the immigration debate. Authorities say Orrego-Savala has twice been deported from the U.S.

Torres says his client’s immigration status has no bearing on the crash case. He notes that Orrego-Savala has been living in Indiana for several years and doing construction work in the Indianapolis area.

Orrego-Savala is facing four felony counts stemming from the Sunday crash. The charges include causing death while driving intoxicated. The two most serious counts each carry maximum sentences of up to 20 years in prison.

A Guatemalan man living illegally in the U.S. said little as he faced a judge after being charged in a drunken-driving crash that killed Indianapolis Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson and an Uber driver.

A Marion County judge entered a not guilty plea for 37-year-old Manuel Orrego-Savala during a court hearing Wednesday.

He’s charged with four felony counts related to the crash early Sunday along Interstate 70 in Indianapolis. The charges are causing death while driving intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident.

Orrego-Savala’s only responses in court were answering through an interpreter as the judge explained the proceedings and charges.

Police say the 26-year-old Jackson and his 54-year-old Uber driver, Jeffrey Monroe, were standing outside Monroe’s car along the interstate when they were struck by a pickup truck Orrego-Savala was driving.

Prosecutors have charged an immigrant who was living illegally in Indiana in a drunken-driving crash that killed Indianapolis Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson and his Uber driver.

Marion County prosecutors on Wednesday charged 37-year-old Manuel Orrego-Savala with four felony counts related to the Sunday crash along Interstate 70 in Indianapolis.

The citizen from Guatemala was due in court Wednesday morning for an initial hearing on the charges of causing death while driving intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident.

Authorities say Orrego-Savala was deported from the U.S. in 2007 and 2009, and he was again living illegally in the U.S., in Indianapolis.

Police say the 26-year-old Jackson and 54-year-old Uber driver Jeffrey Monroe were standing outside Monroe’s car along I-70 when they were struck by a pickup truck that Orrego-Savala was driving.

7:50 a.m.

Federal authorities have filed a new immigration charge against a Guatemalan man suspected in a drunken-driving crash that killed Indianapolis Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson and another man in Indiana.

U.S. Attorney Josh Minkler announced the change Tuesday night, ahead of an expected announcement Wednesday on possible state charges against 37-year-old Manuel Orrego-Savala.

Orrego-Savala was arrested following the crash early Sunday along Interstate 70 in Indianapolis. Investigators say Jackson and his Uber driver, 54-year-old Jeffrey Monroe, were standing outside Monroe’s car when they were struck and killed by a pickup truck driven by Orrego-Savala.

Authorities say Orrego-Savala was deported in 2007 and 2009, and was living illegally in the U.S. at the time of the crash.

He’s charged in a federal criminal complaint with illegal re-entry of a previously deported alien. Federal prosecutors spell his name as Orrego-Zavala, but the compliant lists “Orrego-Savala” as among his aliases.

An immigrant who was living illegally in Indiana when he was arrested in a suspected drunken-driving crash that killed Indianapolis Colts linebacker Edwin Jackson and another man faces a court hearing.

Marion County prosecutors planned to announce Wednesday before 37-year-old Manuel Orrego-Savala’s initial hearing whether he’ll face criminal charges in Sunday’s crash along Interstate 70 in Indianapolis.

Authorities say Orrego-Savala, a citizen of Guatemala, was deported in 2007 and 2009. They say he was again living illegally in the U.S.

Police say the 26-year-old Jackson and 54-year-old Uber driver Jeffrey Monroe were standing outside Monroe’s car along I-70 after Jackson became ill while Monroe was transporting him. They say Jackson and Monroe were struck and killed by a pickup truck driven by Orrego-Savala.

Investigators say they believe Orrego-Savala was intoxicated.
