ATHENS, Ga. — A former NFL player and University of Georgia football standout has been arrested and charged with raping a UGA student, authorities said.

Bacarri Jamon Rambo, 29, was charged Monday with rape. He was being held at the Athens-Clarke County Jail without bond Tuesday afternoon.

Athens-Clarke County Police responded to a reported rape Saturday near the university at an apartment complex where Rambo reportedly lives.

The 21-year-old student told police she was attacked and knew the man who raped her, showing them an Instagram profile with Rambo’s name on it. Further details weren’t immediately released.

Rambo has been a graduate assistant coach with the UGA football program for the past two seasons.

His attorney, Kim Stephens, said the arrest stems from an incident between Rambo and a woman Friday night at the apartment complex, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

Stephens said the woman told police she “didn’t consent to intercourse to some degree” but Rambo said she did.

“He cooperated with police when they came out,” Stephens said. “It’s been a fast turnaround. They didn’t wait for any scientific evidence to come back or anything before they took warrants.”

Rambo was an All-American safety at Georgia and is tied for the program record with 16 interceptions during his tenure. He was drafted by the Washington Redskins in 2013 and has also played with the Miami Dolphins and the Buffalo Bills. He ended his career in 2017.

ATHENS, Ga. – Athens-Clarke County police have charged a former University of Georgia football player with rape.

According to Athens-Clarke County Police Department, officers arrested 29-year-old Bacarri Rambo in connection to the rape of a 21-year-old UGA student, which occured at a downtown Athens residence on West Broad Street in the early morning hours of June 13.

Rambo was taken into custody June 15 and booked into the Clarke County Jail.

Rambo, a former All-American safety for the Bulldogs from 2009 to 2012, was drafted by the Washington Redskins in 2013. He also played for the Miami Dolphins and twice for the Buffalo Bills. 

The native of Donalsonville, Georgia had returned to the University of Georgia to work with the coaching staff.

Former NFL safety Bacarri Rambo is in some major hot water after an alleged incident in Georgia earlier this week.

According to Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald, Rambo was arrested at his apartment Monday night and charged with rape.

“Rambo was listed as the suspect on a police field case report. The victim is listed as a 21-year old female,” the report read. “Rambo was booked into the Clarke County Jail at 10:02 p.m. Monday, according to the Clarke County Jail’s online booking report. He is being held without bond on the felony charge.

There’s no other information available at this time.

Rambo, 29, was a sixth-round pick of the Washington Redskins back in 2013 after an All-American career with Georgia. The safety played 41 games over the course of four seasons, last suiting up with the Miami Dolphins back in 2016.
