Three days after Jasper football player Terrien Collins was arrested on a child sex charge, his college of choice said Wednesday he won’t be welcomed on campus this fall.

Collins, who is charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child and unlawful restraint of a person less than 17 years old, will not play for Texas A&M-Commerce football team next season, according to a statement released by the school’s athletic department.  In reaction to the “very serious charges,” the school chose to release Collins from his signed letter of intent and distance itself from the 18-year-old.

“Lion Athletics is aware of the very serious charges brought against a young man who had signed a letter of intent to participate in intercollegiate athletics at Texas A&M University-Commerce, the statement read. “In light of the grave nature of these allegations, he has been released from his letter of intent, and the young man will not be a Lion student-athlete nor admitted to the institution this fall.”

Collins was arrested early Sunday morning by the Silbee Police Department, serving a warrant out of Sabine County. He was then placed in the Hardin County Jail without bond.

According to Hardin County Sherrif Mark Davis, Collins released to the Sabine County Sheriff’s Office Wednesday morning.
