Gerald Wilkins, 56, was arrested three times in 10 days

According to WGCL-TV in Georgia, Wilkins allegedly threw an object at a colleague and “aggressively” chased the colleague with a screwdriver on Tuesday.

He was reportedly charged with simple battery, theft by taking, and aggravated assault.

Days before on June 6, Wilkins was involved in a domestic dispute during which he apparently barricaded himself in the victim’s bedroom.

Police claim that when they arrived on the scene, they had to break into the room.

When they managed to get in, Wilkins had allegedly poured accelerant out and disabled the smoke alarm.

Wilkins was charged with criminal trespassing and hindering law enforcement.

Less than two weeks ago on May 31, Wilkins allegedly tried to force his way into a woman’s house and pushed her.

The 56-year-old has been charged with simple assault in that case.

Wilkins is the brother of Dominique Wilkins, a former player who mostly played for the Atlanta Hawks, and who was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame in 2006.

In 1985, Gerald Wilkins was a second-round pick for the Knicks and played with the team until 1992.

He also played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Orlando Magic, and Memphis Grizzles before he retired after the 1998 season.

One year and two days after being crowned a national champion, former UW Oshkosh men’s basketball player Connor Duax was charged with two counts of theft for stealing and reselling merchandise from the university bookstore.

In May and December 2019, Duax allegedly stole books from University Books & More and sold them back during textbook buyback for $2,053.75, according to the March 18 criminal complaint.

Duax, 21, was a key player down the stretch during UWO’s championship run, averaging 15.5 points per game over the final six games — including the March 16, 2019 national title game against Swarthmore College.

He was dismissed from the basketball team after starting eight games in the beginning of the year, and, according to UWO Director of Marketing and Communications Peggy Breister, he is no longer enrolled at UWO.

If convicted, Duax could face nine months in prison and fines up to $10,000 for each misdemeanor count. However, on May 18, Duax and Winnebago County signed a Deferred Adjudication Agreement that will avoid taking the case to trial. Under the agreement, Duax must plead no contest or guilty to both counts of theft.

Additionally, for nine months he must not engage in criminal conduct, pay a total of $8,876.53 in restitution fees, provide proof of full-time employment each month, write a letter of apology and have no contact with UWO or the university bookstore.

The charges will be dismissed if Duax complies with the conditions of the agreement, but if he fails to do so, the agreement will be terminated and he will be brought before the court for sentencing.

According to court documents:

On Dec. 10, 2019, UWO Police Department Detective Mike Bartlein was informed of “suspicious activity occurring at the end of the semester book buy-back event” by Kathleen K. Kaltenbach, the manager of the UWO bookstore.

Lydia Sanchez / Advance-Titan — Former UW Oshkosh Basketball standout Connor Duax has been charged with theft for allegedly stealing books from University Books & More and selling them back during textbook buyback for $2,053.75.

Kaltenbach told Bartlein that Duax had sold multiple copies of the same book and books from classes he wasn’t enrolled in.

Kaltenbach and bookstore staff member Nikki Stoll provided Bartlein with a printout of all the books that Duax sold during textbook buyback, which included 23 books for $799.

Of the 23 books, four were duplicates and most were for classes Duax wasn’t in, including an interim class that hadn’t been offered yet.

Additionally, the bookstore found that Duax only purchased one book from the bookstore during the Fall 2019 semester.

Bartlein received documents from the May 2019 textbook buyback, which showed that Duax had sold 26 books for $1,254.

In reviewing the books sold in May, Bartlein found that the books sold did not match any of the classes Duax had enrolled in.

Kaltenbach told Bartlein that an audit of the books Duax sold during the textbook buyback corresponded to an inventory shortage at the UWO bookstore.

Afterward, Kaltenbach provided Bartlein with a record of Duax’s Spring and Fall 2018 textbook buyback transactions, “which raised similar concerns.”

On Dec. 11, 2019, Bartlein met with Duax at the UWOPD headquarters. During the meeting, Bartlein told Duax that he knew about the books returned during the December buyback.

He asked Duax if he had sold all of the books in his possession. Duax replied that he returned the books for someone else and did not have any more books.

Bartlein asked Duax why he was selling stolen books to the bookstore. Duax said he met someone named “Jacob” his freshman year and that “Jacob” runs a scheme where he receives stolen books and has students sell them back for him.

Duax told Bartlein that after he sold the books “Jacob” paid him $50. In addition, Duax said he thought “Jacob’s” last name started with an “L,” and that he usually communicated with “Jacob” via text messages.

Duax has signed an agreement with the county that will avoid a trial
Lydia Sanchez / Advance-Titan — Former UW Oshkosh basketball standout Connor Duax and Winnebago County signed a Deferred Adjudication Agreement that will avoid taking the case to trial. Under the agreement, Duax must plead no contest or guilty to both counts of theft and comply with other conditions for nine months.

When Bartlein asked to see the text messages, Duax replied that “Jacob” makes him erase the messages.

Bartlein then asked if video footage from the bookstore would show Duax stealing books, to which Duax admitted to stealing fewer than 10 books two to three times.

Duax told Bartlein that he stole one book two to three times in May 2019, and two to three times in December 2019, adding the remaining books came from “Jacob.”

After meeting with Duax, Bartlein worked to trace the phone number that Duax had given him for “Jacob.”

Bartlein found that the number belonged to a Jacob in Duax’s hometown, who had never been enrolled at UWO.

That same night, Bartlein emailed Duax his findings and Duax admitted that he lied about “Jacob.”

Then, on Jan. 13, 2020, the bookstore told UWOPD Officer Ashley Fick that they had received a call from an anonymous male who said he found two bags of books.

Fick called the male back, and the male said he had given the books to a man from his church named “Justin.”

Fick and Sgt. Chance Duenkel eventually met with “Justin” and received the books. After reviewing the two bags of books, Fick found a piece of paper in a textbook about Charles Darwin.

The paper was an assignment, and it had the name “Connor” written across the top, along with names of known associates of Duax.

Fick then confirmed that Duax had been enrolled in the class that required the Darwin book, before receiving confirmation from the bookstore that Duax had not purchased the book.

UW Oshkosh declined to comment on the case.

SCHENECTADY – A baccarat dealer at Rivers Casino in Schenectady and a player from Halfmoon have been arrested for allegedly working together to steal an estimated $20,000 from the casino, authorities said.

Joseph Hage, 47, of Grooms Road, Halfmoon, and Sarkis Boutros, 34, of Northern Drive, Troy, were each arrested Thursday evening at the casino and charged with third-degree grand larceny.

The two are accused of taking the money at the casino the evening of Jan. 25, according to police allegations filed in court.

Boutros, as the dealer, is accused of paying out the chips to Hage for non-winning Baccarat hands and Hage is accused of accepting the chips knowing he did not win them, according to to the allegations. The chips were later exchanged for cash, authorities allege.

Both Boutros and Hage are believed to have known each other outside the casino, prosecutor Eamonn Neary said Monday. He didn’t have information on how exactly they allegedly knew each other.

“It does appear that they did know each other,” Neary said.

He did not have information on when the casino picked up on the alleged scheme, but said there was also an indication that Hage did better at Boutros’ table.

The casino has been very helpful in the investigation, including with video evidence, Neary said.

The casino had roughly 700 surveillance cameras as of 2017, casino officials said then.

“They have great security video,” Neary said.

Contacted Monday, a casino spokesman referred questions on the case to police.

Hage and Boutros were arraigned and released under non-monetary conditions. They are due back in court later.

DENVER (CBS4)– Clinton Goodchild, a former professional cricket player from Australia, now living in the Denver metro area, has been charged with felony theft.

Goodchild was accused by police and prosecutors of stealing approximately $23,000 in furniture and restaurant equipment from a LoDo restaurant space he had been subleasing.

Luke McConnell, an attorney representing Goodchild, told CBS4, ”Mr. Goodchild adamantly denies the allegation that a theft occurred, and as is always the case there are two sides to the story, but due to the pending criminal case no further comment can be made at this time.”

Court and police records obtained by CBS4 show that Denver police obtained an arrest warrant for Goodchild in April. The documents state that Goodchild had subleased the space near 18th and Blake from James Beckley and his son Spencer, beginning in August 2017 for $5,500 per month as part of a three year lease, but that Goodchild stopped paying rent on the property in December.

Three months later, Spencer Beckley said the building manager called him to say building surveillance cameras showed Goodchild removing equipment from the space and loading it into a pickup truck.

“The fact that he did that and thought he could walk away unscathed is shocking to me,” said Spencer Beckley.

CBS4 viewed the surveillance tape which showed Goodchild and a second man removing items large and small from the space. They are then seeing loading it into a pickup truck which eventually is driven away.

Beckley said the 2,300 square foot space was filled with pricey restaurant equipment like a convection oven, meat slicer, prep tables and a soda machine, but that Goodchild took it all. Beckley said he and his father owned all the equipment.

Goodchild was arrested and jailed in Denver in mid-April. He was released on a $5,000 personal recognizance bond. Police say Goodchild has no previous criminal record.

Although his attorney wouldn’t say much, Goodchild shared a lengthy statement with CBS4: “In regard to the allegations of wrong doing I look forward to the upcoming trial date where this matter will be cleared up, and the facts regarding the case shared. Until that time, I hope the American way of innocent until proven guilty is in full effect, as at no time was there any negative intent with the removal of property during the onsite Blake St renovations. I think its fair to say for me to enter the space in the middle of the day, use my active key card and remove, transport and safely store the larger heavy unneeded items in front of security cameras that I know are there (as some of them I arranged and paid to have installed) so that planned renovations could continue are not the actions of someone trying to steal property. The items hold no value to me and are currently taking up valuable storage space. Upon learning of the claims, the safe and itemized return of the items to the location has been refused by ownership after multiple attempts. While I am at times confused by many aspects of the current legal maze I find myself in, I have great faith that through the American justice system in the end the truth will be known, and my name will be quickly cleared. My history will show no past criminal behavior in my personal life, or business dealings of which there have been many over the years. I have always served as a positive and morally sound member of the community. I have come to love Denver as my adopted home and intend to be an active member of the community for many years to come.”

Spencer Beckley told CBS4, ”I just want him to be held accountable and stand trial.”

He said getting the equipment back would make it easier to re-rent the space, ”It would be a fantastic selling point to have that in the restaurant.”

It’s no mystery where the missing equipment is. James Beckley told CBS4 that Goodchild has offered to return the missing equipment and furniture.

“Yes, he has offered to do that,” said Beckley.

But Beckley said he was only interested “If he brings it back and puts the restaurant back together and pays back rent.”

Goodchild is due back in court in July.

Criminal charges against a former National Hockey League player agent accused of defrauding two of his clients have been stayed after he died.

Court officials confirmed the charges against Stacey Don McAlpine were stayed on March 7.

An obituary in the Winnipeg Free Press said McAlpine, 54, died at home in his sleep on March 5.

McAlpine was accused of defrauding former NHL players Dany Heatley and Chris Phillips of more than $12 million between January 2004 and June 2011.

At the time, he was a player agent and business adviser who was supposed to invest the players’ money.

He allegedly used the money for personal business and covered it up by giving the players fake account statements.

The Winnipeg Police Service was alerted by Heatley and Phillips in 2013. In October last year, police announced they had charged McAlpine with fraud, theft and money laundering.

Heatley was awarded a $6.5-million judgment in Calgary against companies McAlpine was involved with.

Court documents say McAlpine acted as Phillips’ player agent from about 1995 to 2011 and was also his investment advisor.

Last September, the Ontario Superior Court of Justice awarded Phillips $3,296,917 US in a judgment against McAlpine, his parents and three companies they controlled.

The former solicitor Michael Lynn has appeared in court in Dublin charged with the theft of just under €30m.

The 49-year-old, formerly of St Albans, Sandymount, in Dublin, was extradited from Brazil and escorted back to Ireland by gardaí.

He appeared before the Criminal Courts of Justice late this afternoon.

The former solicitor spent five years in Brazil pending extradition.

He was flown out of Recife last night to Frankfurt and arrived in Dublin on the last Aer Lingus flight at 1.20pm this afternoon before all flights were suspended.

Mr Lynn is charged with 21 offences under the Theft and Fraud Act.

He is accused of stealing almost €30m between October 2006 and June 2007.

The court heard the charges relate to seven financial institutions.

Inspector Pat Linehan said he arrested Mr Lynn at Dublin Airport just before 1.50pm this afternoon.

He was brought to Ballymun Garda Station where the 21 charges were put to him. He made no reply to each one.

Gardaí objected to bail because of the seriousness of the charges, the strength of the evidence, the likely sentence upon conviction, his failure to attend other court proceedings and the possibility that the case may be disposed of quickly.

Inspector Linehan said that gardaí tried to meet him in London and Portugal, but at all stages he sought to frustrate the process.

Mr Lynn testified that he made it clear at all times he was willing to meet gardaí abroad, but the process became “complex and convoluted”.He said the first meeting did not happen because his lawyer had another case, while the second case was because of a “misunderstanding” among the lawyers.

He also said he offered to surrender himself for 15 months and no court in Brazil accused him of procrastination or delaying tactics.

The court heard that the President of the High Court had directed he attend to testify under oath in December 2007, but he said today his lawyers advised him not to give evidence in the High Court to protect his right to silence in case of criminal proceedings.

Today, he told the judge: “I am here to answer for the charges. I have no intention of leaving the jurisdiction.

“I need to face these charges and I need to face up to these charges and get this aspect of my life over.

“I have never been a fugitive from Ireland and I’m prepared to abide by any conditions. The day of Ronnie Biggs is over.”

His sister Ann was in court and offered an independent surety of €100,000.

Judge Gerard Jones deliberated before refusing bail. He said Mr Lynn is, and remains, a flight risk.

He said he believes its no coincidence that Mr Lynn chose Brazil, a country with no extradition to Ireland.

Mr Lynn was remanded in custody to appear at the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court on 23 March.

He was granted free legal aid.

A Centralia transient was arrested this week after allegedly pushing another man and stealing his wallet and other possessions.

Jason A. Landry, 40, a transient, was charged Friday in Lewis County Superior Court with second-degree robbery and possession of a controlled substance.

Landry was granted $25,000 bail at his first hearing. His arraignment is scheduled for Jan. 18.

Landry was originally scheduled to be charged on Thursday but his hearing was delayed.

LOGAN — A former Utah State football player has pleaded guilty for his involvement in the electronics burglary case involving four other players. Jaylan Brown was arrested and charged in April with burglary, a second-degree felony, tampering with a witness, a third-degree felony and misdemeanor theft.

Police arrested Brown and Troy Murray, after a video game console and several games were stolen from a Logan apartment complex in December 2016. The equipment was discovered at a pawn shop in Salt Lake City, where the two 19-year-old men had sold the items for cash.

Jamarcus Ingram, Dayshawn Littleton and Kevin Meiztenheimer were arrested later, accused of trying to hit the witnesses with their car and threatening to return and shoot the victim. The three 19-year-olds were allegedly trying to prevent charges from being filed against Brown and Murray.

Brown appeared in 1st District Court Tuesday afternoon. He accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to charges of trespassing, theft and attempted tampering with a witness, all misdemeanors.

Brown’s attorney, Earl Xaiz told the court Brown had no criminal history prior to coming to Utah State. He explained that his client got involved with the wrong crowd, after moving to Logan on a football scholarship.

Xaiz said Brown was kicked off the team after his arrest and moved back to California. He enrolled in a community college and has maintained a 3.6 GPA. He also apologized to the team for his actions.

Judge Kevin Allen said stealing the electronics was a minor issue but it became a bigger problem when Brown asked the other teammates to threaten the victim. He ordered him to serve one-year of probation and complete 50-hours of community service.

Murray, Ingram, Littleton and Meiztenheimer have already accepted similar plea deals and were sentenced.
