An Air Force Academy football player accused of cocaine use will face court-martial Tuesday, the school said in a news release.

Cadet Kyler Ehm is charged with four counts of cocaine use, a charge his lawyers denied in a preliminary hearing on the case last fall. A Kansas native, Ehm played in 10 games as a defensive lineman for the Falcons, recording a single tackle.

Air Force football coach Troy Calhoun refuses questions on players’ cocaine charges

“It must be emphasized that charges are merely accusations, and the accused is presumed innocent until proven guilty,” the academy said in a statement.

Ehm was the third Falcons football player to face cocaine charges after a 2019 investigation. He was charged after other cadets accused the defensive lineman of using cocaine and at least one witness got a reduced sentence on their own drug charges.

The government’s star witness is former Falcons fullback Cole Fagan, who in September pleaded guilty to cocaine use and got a 15-day sentence at a court-martial where he faced a maximum prison term of five years.

Former Air Force Academy football player falsely accused of using cocaine, attorney says

Civilian defense attorney Ernesto Gapasin last fall argued that Ehm was a victim of testimony offered by witnesses desperate to give prosecutors damning information on others in exchange for plea deals.

“You wouldn’t find a single witness out there who would say Kyler Ehm is anything but a good-natured young man,” Gapasin said.

The argument didn’t sway authorities, who determined there was ample evidence for Ehm to head to trial.

Air Force Academy cadet gets 7 days after guilty plea in cocaine case

The football player will see a smaller crowd in the courtroom on Tuesday. The academy has limited seating and made other social-distancing arrangements designed to slow the spread of coronavirus.

During the trial, a panel of officers will hear evidence against Ehm and is empowered to convict on a two-thirds vote. Court-martial panels also have wide discretion if they convict a defendant.

In Ehm’s case, a conviction brings a maximum penalty of five years in prison, but the military jury can pick any sentence from the maximum down to a letter of reprimand and no time behind bars.

Former NHL player Matthew Barnaby, who played for seven teams across 14 seasons, was arrested Thursday morning by Nashville police on charges of alleged assault and public intoxication, records show.

According to a police report obtained by WGRZ Buffalo, Barnaby was involved in an altercation with his girlfriend and others at Nashville Crossroads bar downtown. A bouncer told police Barnaby choked him.

Nashville police booked Barnaby into jail just after 1 a.m. and he was released around 9:30 a.m., his total bond charges amounting to $6,000. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 27, per records.

Matthew Barnaby shown on June 23, 2005.

Barnaby took to Twitter Thursday afternoon, stating that he “will be vindicated very soon” and a “full statement would be coming soon.”

Barnaby entered the NHL with the Buffalo Sabres in 1992-93 and spent six seasons with the team before playing for six more organizations over the next eight years. He led the NHL in penalty minutes twice (1995-96, 2000-01) and finished with 2,562 over 834 games. He played until 2006-07.

ESPN hired Barnaby after his playing career to serve as a hockey analyst, a role he fulfilled for four years until the network fired him a day after he was charged with a DWI in 2011, which came after his ex-wife dropped five misdemeanor charges against him earlier that year.

A men’s Drake basketball player has been arrested and charged in relation to the off-campus shooting of a 19-year-old university student.

Tremell Murphy, who is headed into his senior season as a student-athlete, has been charged with false reports to law enforcement and discharging a firearm within city limits, two misdemeanors, according to a news release from Des Moines police.

He was booked in the Polk County Jail on Thursday and bonded out about 90 minutes later.

Jarad Bernstein, a spokesman with the university, said officials there are conducting a review of the shooting, which they believed to be accidental. Murphy, one of the Bulldogs’ starters last season, has been removed from men’s basketball team activities, according a statement from Bernstein.

No statement is expected from the athletic department.

The charges for Murphy stem from a report about 11 p.m. Aug. 31 in the 1100 block of 27th Street. Des Moines police officers arrived at the home and found a 19-year-old man with a towel being compressed on his head lying near a small pool of blood, according to an incident report.

Tremell Murphy, a Drake University men's basketball player, is seen in a Polk County Jail booking photo from Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019, after his arrest in connection with an accidental shooting in Des Moines.

Police were told the person had fallen, but an officer noticed a bullet hole in a wall near where the man was being treated. The round appeared to come through the wall from an adjacent room and a shell casing was found on a bed in that room, investigators found.

The victim, who authorities believe was shot from an adjacent room, has been identified, but the Register does not typically name the victims in shootings without their consent.

Murphy, a 6-foot-6 forward, eventually told investigators that the room where the casing was found was his and there was a gun in the home.

“Murphy told officers that he had a .22 caliber pistol in a dresser drawer in the bedroom. One spent shell casing was recovered from the room,” the police release states. “Throughout this initial investigation, Murphy insisted that (the victim) had fallen and injured his head.”

The release later says that “Murphy indicated that he accidentally discharged the weapon. Murphy also admitted knowingly withholding information in regards to the shooting.”

Mar 9, 2019; St. Louis, MO, United States; Northern Iowa Panthers guard Trae Berhow (11) defends against Drake Bulldogs forward Tremell Murphy (2) during the second half in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament at Enterprise Center.

Murphy, whom Drake basketball’s website lists as a native of Griffiith, Indiana, transferred to the Bulldogs from Florida Southwestern after being named an all-American at the junior college level in 2018. He started 32 games for Drake last season, averaging 10 points and six rebounds a game.

“This is a sad and difficult time for the Drake community,” Jerry Parker, Drake’s dean of students said in a statement Thursday. “Our thoughts are first and foremost with the injured student and his family, and with the hope of a full recovery. The injury is serious but not life-threatening, and, gratefully, no one else was hurt. The University will continue providing support to all of those affected by the incident, while we complete the internal review.”

FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — NFL free agent Antonio Brown turned himself in at a Florida jail on Thursday night following accusations that he and his trainer attacked the driver of a moving truck that carried some of his possessions from California.

Brown, 31, arrived at Broward County Jail around 10 p.m. The wide receiver, wearing a turquoise suit buttoned over a green athletic jacket, walked out of the jail a few minutes after arriving, but then returned after conferring with his lawyer, who indicated that he would spend the night behind bars.

“He’s innocent of these charges. Hopefully we’ll get bond tomorrow and he’ll be acquitted of all charges,” attorney Eric Schwartzreich told WFOR-TV.

He is expected to appear before a judge in a bond court hearing on Friday.

A Hollywood police statement said Brown’s arrest warrant included charges of burglary with battery, burglary of an unoccupied conveyance and criminal mischief. Officials responded Tuesday afternoon to a disturbance call where the alleged victim said Brown and his trainer, Glenn Holt, hit him outside Brown’s Hollywood home.

Patriots cornerback Joejuan Williams’ first NFL offseason isn’t off to a great start.

The 22-year-old man was arrested on drug-related charges on Jan. 17 after being pulled over in Cumberland County, about a hundred miles east of Nashville, a Tennessee Highway Patrol report shows.

According to reports and his arrest warrants, a trooper stopped Williams on Interstate 40 near mile marker 333 at 9:37 p.m. for speeding in his 2016 black Land Rover. The report shows he was traveling 90 mph in a 70 mph zone.

During a search, reports show the trooper found acetaminophen hydrocodone prescription pills, valacyclovir hydrocodone pills, “a large amount of marijuana,” hand-rolled marijuana cigarettes, and illegal paraphernalia inside the SUV.

New England Patriots corner back Joejuan Williams was arrested on Jan. 17 in Nashville, Tennessee.

He was cited for speeding and also charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of drugs without a prescription and possession of drug paraphernalia, court records show.

Williams was booked into the Cumberland County jail that same day and released on Jan. 18 after posting a $37,500 bond.

He’s due in court on Feb. 21 to enter a plea in his respective charges, a Cumberland County General Sessions Court court clerk said Thursday.

NATCHITOCHES, La.  — Long before he became the beloved head football coach at undefeated LSU, this is where Ed Orgeron made some of the dumbest mistakes of his life and nearly threw away his future, according to local legend.

It was late 1982. Orgeron had just finished his junior season as a football player at the local university, Northwestern State. But he was on thin ice. He already had quit LSU as a freshman because he was homesick and didn’t like it there. Then after he joined NSU about 180 miles up the road, he had earned a reputation as a hell-raising, curfew-busting barroom brawler.

A new coach had just been hired, Sam Goodwin, who considered kicking him off the team, along with his roommate, after they were accused of trashing a dorm room.

LSU coach Ed Orgeron (L) and Sam Goodwin, the coach who nearly kicked Orgeron off his team.

The school’s housing director “took me into this one room, and every piece of furniture in there was broke,” Goodwin recalled this week as Orgeron prepared LSU for the national championship game against Clemson Monday in New Orleans.

“Just a total disaster,” he said. “He told me two of my players did all that, and it wasn’t the first time they had done it. One of them was Bébé Orgeron, and the other Bryan Arceneaux, both of them from South Lafourche.”

North Carolina State guard Eric Lockett was arrested and charged with assault early Thursday for an alleged altercation he had with a woman believed to be his ex-girlfriend on Tuesday, arrest records from the Raleigh Police Department show.

According to online court records, Lockett is accused of hitting the woman in the face during an argument that saw an Uber driver call the police.

In his first court appearance Thursday morning, a judge ordered the 23-year-old to have no contact with the alleged victim. He is currently being held without bond at the Wake County (N.C.) Detention Center. Because he has no previous criminal history, Lockett is eligible for the pretrial release program that would set his bond at $1,500. His next court date is slated for March 27.

North Carolina State Wolfpack guard Eric Lockett (5) shoots the ball against the Wake Forest Demon Deacons in the second half at Lawrence Joel Coliseum.

N.C. State coach Kevin Keatts said in a statement issued by the university that Lockett was indefinitely suspended. “We await additional information,” he added.

Messages made by USA TODAY Sports to reach Lockett’s attorney or legal representation were unsuccessful.

Lockett, a senior grad transfer averaging 5.0 points and 3.3 rebounds per game this season, missed Wednesday’s game against Syracuse.

Free agent pitcher Rich Hill, who spent the last four seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers, was arrested at the New England Patriots-Buffalo Bills game on Saturday as he and his wife were charged with disorderly conduct.

Foxborough police told the Boston Globe that Hill’s wife, Caitlin, repeatedly tried to enter Gillette Stadium with an oversized bag. When she was turned away several times and refused to leave the area, police arrested her. That’s when the 15-year MLB veteran intervened.

“He saw her as they were trying to get her into a van to bring to the police station, and he started to interfere with the officers,’’ Robert Bolger, chief administrator for Foxborough police, told the Globe. “He was told several times to back up and he would not. And he ended up getting arrested.”

Left-hander Rich Hill has enjoyed his greatest career success with the Los Angeles Dodgers, winning 12 games in 2017, 11 games in 2018 and making 11 postseason starts over the past four seasons.

The Hills were both arraigned Monday, when Rich Hill’s charge of resisting arrest was dismissed and he was fined $500 for disorderly conduct. Caitlin Hill had her criminal charges of disorderly conduct and trespassing converted to civil infractions and was fined a total of $500.

“Despite Saturday’s events, my great respect for law enforcement remains unchanged,” Hill said in a statement released by his attorney. “However, seeing my wife handcuffed for a problem that was started because of her fanny pack was extremely difficult for me to witness. This was all overblown and we are glad to have it behind us.”

A native of Milton, Massachusetts, Hill spent three seasons with the Red Sox from 2010-12. He began his career with the Chicago Cubs in 2005 and played for five other teams before the Dodgers acquired him at the 2016 trade deadline.

Hill, 39, has enjoyed his greatest success in his late 30s with the Dodgers, going 30-16 with a 3.16 ERA over 361 1/3 innings. His three-year, $48 million contract expired this offseason, making him a free agent. However, he will miss at least the first half of the 2020 season recovering from elbow surgery in October.

ATLANTA — Kamiyah Street, the Kennesaw State star women’s basketball player charged with murder in a July Atlanta shooting, is expected in court on Friday for a plea hearing.

Street was arrested last month and charged with murder, three counts of felony murder, criminal attempt to commit armed robbery, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and a bench warrant for possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

Atlanta Police said the arrest is tied to a targeted shooting that happened at 765 McDaniel Street on July 16.

Police said they arrived to find a man trying to help his friend, who had been shot as they were getting out of a car in the parking lot. The witness said that a group of men approached and began shooting. The victim, 21-year-old Nashiem Hubbard Etienne, died at the scene.

On a since-deleted bio page hosted on KSUOwls.com, Street was listed as Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN) Second Team All-Conference, Player of the Week twice and All-Tournament Team in her sophomore year.

In her freshman year, she was named ASUN Freshman of the Year, Second Team All-Conference, Conference All-Freshman Team, Conference Player of the Week, Conference Freshman of the Week six times and Conference Newcomer of the Week.

In her most recent season, as a sophomore, Street had played in 31 games and started in 30, averaging 16.9 points and 4.9 rebounds a game.

This season, the Mays High School graduate had just recorded her 1,000th point as a member of the Kennesaw State Owls on Nov. 13 against Mercer University.

Kennesaw State University has since released a statement to 11Alive that reads:

“We were made aware Thursday evening that Kamiyah Street of the KSU women’s basketball team was arrested and is being held, pending charges. The individual has been suspended indefinitely from all women’s basketball team and athletic activities. Neither the university nor the athletic department have any additional information at this time.”

In addition to Street’s arrest, authorities said they arrested three other suspects – Cortez Banks, Johnerton Gilstrap, Tabias Wells – in connection with the deadly shooting.

On Dec. 18, a fourth suspect, Dontacus Bradley, was captured after remaining on the run for several weeks.
