A vehicle hit and killed a pedestrian on Highway 544 near Cabots Creek Dr., and one person was arrested.

The driver, 23-year-old Riley Patton, has been charged with felony driving under the influence involving death and leaving the scene of a collision involving death. Patton was taken to J. Reuben Long Detention Center.

Assistant Athletic Director Kevin Davis says Patton played football for Coastal Carolina University, but his eligibility ran out in November. He is still enrolled in classes at CCU.

Cpl. Sonny Collins with South Carolina Highway Patrol says a 2001 Ford Truck was in the median of Highway 544, assisting another vehicle. A 2002 GMC truck traveling east on 544, ran off into the median and hit the Ford. The Ford then hit and killed the pedestrian who was standing outside of the truck.

LOS ANGELES — Police say Green Bay Packers wide receiver Trevor Davis was arrested after falsely claiming to have explosives while checking in for a flight at Los Angeles International Airport. Airport police spokesman Rob Pedregon said Monday that Davis was booked on a charge of making a false bomb threat at an airport and released with a summons to appear in court.

He said Davis was checking in for a Hawaiian Airlines flight when an airline employee asked him whether he had any explosives in his bag. Pedregon said Davis said “yes” and asked a woman he was traveling with, “Did you pack the explosives?”

TMZ reports that the woman said “no” and Davis said he was “just kidding.”

Airline employees called police and Davis was arrested. The woman wasn’t charged.

The team said it was aware of the matter and was still gathering additional information.

DEA NEWS RELEASE

(DETROIT) – Three individuals were charged in a six-count indictment, unsealed today, which alleges capital murder, heroin and cocaine distribution, and related firearm offenses, announced U.S. Attorney Matthew Schneider.

Joining Schneider in the announcement were Timothy Plancon, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Detroit Field Office of DEA; Jeffrey E. Peterson, Acting Special Agent-in-Charge of the Detroit Field Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation; James Craig, Chief of Detroit Police Department and Thomas Deasy of the Michigan State Police.

The indictment charges Michael DeAngelo Griffin, 34, of Birmingham, Alabama; Clifton Dennis Epps, 30, of Amory, Mississippi; and Mariano Lozoya Garcia, 47, of Brownsville, Texas with interstate travel with intent to kill, injure or harass; interstate travel in aid of unlawful activity; heroin and cocaine distribution; and firearm offenses relating to the murders of Robert James Eddins IV and Ricardo Denard McFarlin, both of Detroit, on December 20, 2016. While aiding and abetting each other, it is alleged that defendants traveled from Birmingham, Alabama to Detroit, Michigan with the intent to harm Robert James Eddins IV, and in the course of carrying out that purpose, Robert Eddins IV and Ricardo McFarlin were killed with a firearm.  Eddins was a former member of the Buffalo Bills

United States Attorney Matthew Schneider said, “Combatting the scourge of drug trafficking and the violence that comes with it is a major priority of the metro Detroit law enforcement community. The collaborative efforts and excellent work of DPD, FBI, MSP, and DEA have culminated in this indictment today. We hope to bring justice for the families of the deceased men and dismantle all organizations that spread these deadly poisons in our neighborhoods.”

“The murders of Eddin and McFarlin is just another example of how violence is intertwined with drug trafficking,” stated Special Agent Plancon. “The DEA will continue to target violent offenders in an effort to make our communities safer and drug free.”
“The FBI is at its best when working in concert with our local, state, and federal law enforcement partners,” said Jeffery E. Peterson, Acting Special Agent in Charge, Detroit Division of the FBI. “As reflected in this investigation and the indictment unsealed today, the collective efforts of Detroit’s law enforcement community to combat organized drug trafficking, and the heinous crimes associated with it, is a top priority for our men and women of law enforcement. This investigation reflects our daily dedication and hard work to bring justice to the violent offenders who wreak havoc on our neighborhoods and to protect the residents of southeast Michigan.”

We have learned in law enforcement that crime has no boundaries.” stated Capt. Thomas Deasy, Michigan State Police, Second District Commander. “It is through working with our local and federal partners that we are able to take violent criminals off the street and protect not only the citizens of Michigan, but across the county.”

This case was investigated by agents and officers of the Detroit Police Department’s Homicide Task Force which consists of Special Agents and law enforcement officers with the Detroit Police Department; FBI Detroit, DEA Detroit; and the Michigan State Police. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorneys Rajesh Prasad and Dawn N. Ison.

An Indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Washington Nationals TV analyst Ray Knight has resolved the legal fallout from his bizarre—and still mysterious—altercation with a 33-year-old man that got him arrested and charged with assault and battery last October.

In Fairfax County court Monday, lawyers for Knight and the alleged victim, who has not been named, said they’d reached an agreement to resolve the matter, and the charges were dismissed. No details were provided and the lawyers declined to elaborate after the brief hearing. Neither Knight, 65, nor the alleged victim appeared in court.

Not much is known about the fight that led to Knight’s arrest or the details of the agreement to resolve it. On October 23, the Fairfax County Police Department released the following statement:

“Former Major League Baseball player, manager and TV analyst Charles Ray Knight has been charged with assault and battery after an incident in his home in the Alexandria area of Fairfax County. Our officers responded to a fight call in the 7500 block of Ashby Lane around 4 a.m. Sunday, after an argument between Knight and an acquaintance, a 33-year-old man, became physical. Both men had visible injuries. The victim was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Knight was also treated at a hospital and then taken to the Adult Detention Center. He has since been released and his scheduled court date is January 8, 2018.”
