Pennsylvania State Police troopers are continuing to investigate an incident where a 2-year-old child was recorded inhaling from a vaping device. The video of the incident started circulating on social media Sunday. According to a press release from Pennsylvania State Police issued Monday, a 17-year-old girl was babysitting the child at a residence along Jan-L Street in St. Clair Township, Westmoreland County on Thursday between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. According to police, the child took the vaping device from a nightstand and began using it. The 17-year-old babysitter and an 18-year-old woman who was also present at the time allowed the child to inhale from the device, and police say one or both of the teenagers made a video recording of the incident. It was posted to the social media platform Snapchat. Police said there is no family relationship between the teenagers and the child. The device is believed to have contained 3% nicotine, police said. No THC was in the device.Police said the child did not display any visible effects, other than coughing, after inhaling the device contents. Police notified the child’s parents, who were unaware of the incident. The United School District confirms that state police inquired about two individuals regarding the video and that both are current students.”The administration was made aware of the video this afternoon,” Superintendent Barbara Parkins said. “We have provided the names of the individuals to the authorities who are investigating.” The mother of the 17-year-old girl told Pittsburgh’s Action News 4 that her daughter made a mistake and the incident was blown way out of proportion. She says her daughter is receiving death threats and will be taken out of school because of bullying and harassment.
